The question isn't whether Rodgers has a track record of great QB play. He OBVIOUSLY does. We were on the wrong end of that way too many times. The only questions for the Jets are if he's jumped the shark or not and if the rest of the team around him is good enough.

I guess this is where I'm most concerned. Can we actually develop that talent? On the pitching side, sure... lots of success there. On the hitting side? We have Riley Greene and .... ??? Now, maybe Keith and Clark and Jung and even JHM will prove me wrong. I certainly hope so!

I'll confess that I haven't looked at this stats lately... I just assumed because the Tigers were stinking he wasn't doing so hot either. If he's really has a 135+ that's not bad at all and I withdraw my condemnation of Greene.

73 games played so far (not including the current game)... 7 times they've been shut out. Looking very much like it might be 8 after today. 12 times they only scored 1 run. A "Quality Start" is the starting pitcher going at least 6 innings and giving up 3 runs or less. Well, in 73 games our boys have scored 3 runs or less in 9 innings 33 times. 45% of the time if the starting pitcher just got through the 6th inning it was an automatic quality start and probably many of the other 55% of games were also "quality start"-worthy with us only edging above 3 runs in the later innings. Any excitement I had for the team in spring is just completely gone at this point. I wasn't expecting a WS contending team, but I was hoping for at least a step forward. This year the offense is as bad as ever and the young hitters that we hoped would mature (Tork and Greene) haven't. I'm not saying "blow it up" yet, but I'm dang close to it. At this point I wouldn't really be opposed to trading Skubal because I don't think we'll be seriously contending again until here's on the down slope of his career.

This just might be stupider than the "you can gamble, just not on team grounds" rule... While the policy permits clubs to engage with and negotiate all aspects of an NFL player contract with the certified agent of any prospective unrestricted free agent during the two-day negotiating period, any direct contact between the player and an employee or representative of the club is prohibited. This includes discussion of travel arrangements or other logistical matters, which the club acknowledges took place with regard to these three players. Am I missing something here? What is the logic behind this rule? Please let me know if you can think of some logical reason that completely negotiating a multi-million dollar deal with a person... excuse me... with the player's agent... and to come to a complete conclusion on absolutely everything and have it all finalized -- except for actually getting the signature on the contact -- is perfectly fine. But calling the dude up and saying: "Listen, there's a flight that leaves at 10 or one that leaves at 2pm... which would you rather take?" Well, dang-nabbit it that's just going too far in the tampering world! We can't have teams doing that!! You can't call up the player! Now, if you talked to the agent and asked the agent to ask the player this same question... well, there's nothing wrong with that, now is there. That's fine... but don't call him yourself! For the record: I'm not excusing the team for breaking the rules. Just like Jamo and the illegal gambling, if you know the rule you need to follow the rule, even if it's a stupid rule. I'm not saying the Falcons shouldn't be punished. I'm saying the rule is stupid and doesn't make any sense.

Pure speculation, but I don't see crowd noise as being an issue for a kicker. Obviously I'm not a kicker so I'm just speaking off the top of my head, but it's not like they have to communicate a player to other players or do an audible to listen for a specific count for the ball to be snapped... Obviously loud noise is mildly distracting, but I don't see it being a huge issue.

Yeah I don't think it's a given that it's Bates job to lose. That amount of guaranteed money is pocket change to an NFL team. I will be very interested to see how he does in camp and in pre-season. He didn't seem to be excitable or emotional in UFL games... he was 'iced' a few times and just went ahead and kicked super long kicks successfully a second time so I don't think we need to worry about nerves or fan noise or anything. But he definitely showed that he's less successful outside and will top-level players trying to get at him when he kicks effect him? Or will the idea that he's looking a multi-million dollars if he doesn't screwup get in his head and cause him to screwup?

Very valid point and just more evidence that it's rarely a black and white situation in the NFL. I mean, real life is always like this too and therefore it's true in all sports, but I think the NFL is more interdependent than many other sports. But... the 10 years prior to Goff and McVay the Rams managed ZERO winning seasons. McVay steps in, gets Goff first over all and immediately makes the playoffs, then one year later makes the Super Bowl... then things start the falter a bit... then they make the playoffs again and suddenly McVay is convinced that Goff isn't good enough. Perhaps I'm jaded as a Lions fan but that amount of success seems pretty good to me and shouldn't mean cutting bait. We've all seen the many cases were a player under performs, goes to a new team that knows how to use/motivate/coach him right and he becomes a star... but Goff wasn't really underperforming, certainly not at first. Something was working... and then it apparently wasn't. I don't think you can just say: "Eh... it happens, nobody's fault..." I also don't think you can say it's 100% this guys fault or 100% that guys fault... but you're just two years removed from playing in the SB and you just made another playoff run... not a deep run, but still a playoff run and McVay decides he needs to heavily mortgage the future for now.

The NFL in generally is never just one thing. An average QB behind a stellar line, with amazing rbs and wrs will put up pro-bowl numbers. A fantastic offense will allow even a QB like Trent Dilfer to win it all. Goff and McVay apparently didn't mesh. Was it Goff's fault for not listening to McVay wanted him to do? Was it McVay's fault for not trying to putting in the plays that Goff could execute? I have no special insight or knowledge beyond any other fan of the game so take it for what it's worth, but given than McVay did have success with Goff early in his career it would seem to me that McVay knew what Goff could excel at and should have been able to cater the game plan to that. I suppose we'd really need to see if the game plan of the 17 and 18 Rams was different than the game plan of 19 and 20. I'm not qualified to do that review but if it's largely the same type of plays and styles, I'd probably lay more blame at the feet of Goff (not all). If it's different I'd say McVay is more at fault.

I dunno... I don't want to jump to conclusions and the man deserves his day in court. But I have some concerns: "To be clear, these are absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false allegations made as part of a campaign to defame and disparage a talented and well-respected NFL player," McManus' lawyer, Brett R. Gallaway, told CNN last week. "We intend to aggressively defend Brandon's rights and integrity and clear his name by showing what these claims truly are - an extortion attempt." First this happened on team flight to London last year. If this was just an extortion attempt by the women, this seems like a really bad "venue" to fake a claim in. The only witnesses are generally going to be the rest of the team, which seems like they would be more likely to lie to protect their own than to lie to get one of their teammates in trouble. Second, if they were going to extort someone for financial gain, it seems like a kicker probably isn't going to have have nearly as much income to go after vs. some other more star players. Why pick him to extort? Third, the Commanders were made aware of the lawsuit on May 27th. It looks like they didn't release him until June 2... now maybe part of that is getting past the June 1 cut date, but they had time to investigate and research for nearly a week and still decided to cut him. It wasn't a knee-jerk: "A lawsuit?!?! Fire him now!!!" sort of thing.

It seems like it would be pretty easy to defeat these measure if you really wanted too. For facial recognition, especially at football games, a little bit of face paint and/or costume wouldn't be considered out of place at all and would mess up any facial recognition. For ticket master: Just use a VISA gift card and a fake name or have a friend or spouse buy the tickets. Instead of going as John Q. Public, put your name as J Quincy Public. I serious doubt they are putting in the effort to do a background check on any name that gets flagged as remotely similar to one on the banned list.

I suspect it's a deterrent thing. If this guy is just asked to leave without any other repercussion it'll spawn a lot of other people doing the same. Any while this guy might be respectful about it the next one might not be.

Yeah that was a pretty bad miss. Bates certain has come down to earth as the season has progressed, which isn't surprising given where he started. I'm SURE he's still gonna get looks from NFL teams and I want the Lions to be one of those teams. But given how things have played out, I also don't want the Lions get into a bidding war over him. Make a good, reasonable offer and let's see if it pans out.

Credit to this poster over on reddit: The short version is this: IF we're guessing the tie breakers properly, the Panthers would have to win next week by more than 22 points to get first place in the USFL conference. Again I don't believe that the UFL has published the tie breaker rules yet so people are guessing based on what the USFL and/or XFL have used in the past. Very unlikely but possible I guess... so it's a bummer that if it happened the game wouldn't be at Ford Field.

Zero FG attempts this past week. Panthers get the win, so that's a good thing of course. But it's a bummer for Bates. He would have been kicking outdoors in hot, but other wise agreeable weather so would have been another chance to audition for the NFL. Sorry all... I know you depend on my for your Panther's updates, and I let y'all down. I know how critical this information is to your daily lives so I'm very ashamed to have to report that I screwed up. I seriously hope that this hasn't ruined your week. Bates DID have a FG attempt early in this game, before I started watching. He missed from 39 yards.

No, no, no... we do NOT want that. I don't care how bad it makes the 'Boys look we do NOT want that. The only time in history that one city has won the championship game/series in three of the major four sports in North America was in 1935/36. No other city has done that since then nor before*. Even more amazing, this was the FIRST Championship for each of those teams, all back-to-back-to-back. And this doesn't even count the fact that this city also boasted the a minor hockey league champion, home of the reigning power boat champions, home of AP athlete of the year along with dozens and dozens of other minor sports champions ranging from tennis to checkers to horse racing. So amazing was this sports feat that the city was nicknamed the City of Champions. Now, do we really want Dallas to be able to try to claim 3 of the major 4 championships? Do we really want Dallas to try to claim to be on the same level of one season of sports greatness like Detroit is? *The before part here is somewhat debated because what was defined as a "major sports league" was somewhat nebulous in the early 1900s but the key part here is winning the championship game/series. The NFL, prior to the early 1930s didn't have a championship game. The team with the best record was declared the champion prior to this. There were no playoffs.

I'm not going to read too much into a rookie QB looking like a rookie QB before Training Camp even opens. That said, as a Lions fan I'm certainly happier that he looks like a rookie QB rather than a phenom who's picking up the NFL game from day 1. Even if Williams looks terrible this year I wouldn't write him off.
-
Well that's not good. We do NOT want that to happen. Guess I'm gonna have to root for Edmonton and Minnesota. You know the last time that a city had three titles from the same sports season, right?
-
As funny as that is for 'Boys fans... it is impressive for the rest of Dallas that all three have been in the conference finals. For Detroit you've got the Lions at 0 of course, buuuuut.... Tigers: 10 seasons RedWings: 16 seasons Pistons: 17 seasons

Stumbled across this "article." Could you be more wrong??

I didn't look too closely at the site... I did see a link to a sports betting site in there so my guess is that it's just some site thrown up to try to get referral clicks to gambling sites and the content isn't really thought out stuff, just thrown together to in the hopes that someone clicks through. My guess is that at best it's someone with a cursory knowledge of sports who googled "Detroit Sports Logos." I just actually read through the "article" and it's even more hillarious reading the details: "We love the Detroit Pistons logo, although we remember the possibly more iconic version from the 90s during the era Grant Hill played for the team." Umm... what?? The "more iconic" teal horse head logo?? "We love the simple red and white colors, which hail back to Detroit’s deep history in the automobile industry." How exactly does Red and White hail back to the history of the automobile industry? "Since its inception, the team’s logo has always contained a stylized lion and used the same color combination of blue, white, and grey." No, it actually hasn't. The original logo was "natural" colors with a player and a yellow lion. At least the Spartans and Wolverines write up didn't seem to have any glaring errors... but I don't follow college sports too much so maybe there's something there I missed. -
Saw this on Facebook: Someone bought this from the UK NFL store and the blue on the sleeves doesn't make the numbers. Anyone get a Black Jersey yet? If so, do your blues match?

Bates misses a 51 yarder attempt... his only attempt this past game. So far Bates has missed just 3 FGs all season. Two of which were out doors in bad weather, and now this one. Interestingly Bates has only missed when playing against the Memphis Showboats. If the Lions do end up signing Bates, I hope we don't need any FGs when on Oct 27th when the Titans come to visit.

I agree it's not a great look, but probably won't matter. Birmingham is 7-0 with 3 games left. This week they face a very weak team in the Roughnecks. If they win that they can't finish worse than tied for the USFL conf. lead. I don't know that there's been an official release of the tie-breaker rules for the UFL, but the speculation is that they'll follow the the USFL rules: 1. Overall Record 2. Head to Head Record 3. Conference Record 4. Strength of Victory 1. Again, assuming the Stallions win tomorrow, then we'd need them to lose their next game (at Brahms, currently 5-2) and then lose their final game again the Panthers. The Panthers would need to win all of their remain 3 games, and that just gets us both tied 8-2, so over all record is the same. 2. Head to Head would be an even split. They beat us earlier, we would beat them in the last game in this senario. 3. Conference Record: Assuming Stallions win tomorrow and lose to us in the final game, their conference record would be 5-1. Assuming we win out our conference record would be 5-1. Another tie. 4. Strength of Victory: The Stallions current .347 SoV is much higher than the Panthers .314. It's possible that winning out could boost us, but I don't know if it would boost us enough.
