  1. Some times it amazes me how bad I am at remember lengths of time in the past. I had no idea it was more than 10 years in Detroit and only ~4.5 in Houston.
  2. Listen... when I want advice about building a Hockey Team roster, then I'll consult Bat Boy. As far as baseball is concerned, Bat Boy doesn't know $#!% and needs to sit down and shut up.
  3. That's a pitcher right... please tell me that Armbruester is a pitcher. If not that's totally a waste of an potentially awesome baseball player name.
  4. Here's my after action report, just for you Echoes... 1. Cut River Bridge: This is a bridge a short distance away from St. Ignace on the southern coast of UP. There's a place you can pull off an park next east of it. Trails lead from the parking lot to the bridge. You can walk under it as well as take stairs up to the bridge. Good views, worth stopping and looking. Warning that the sidewalks are narrow on the bridge with traffic moving very fast, but there is a barrier between pedestrians and vehicles. I'd recommend stop. Cost: FREE ✭✭✭✭☆ 2. Kitchi-iti-kipi (aka, Big Spring): The largest Spring in Michigan. Pretty interesting. There's a raft you can ride on with an open center so you can see down. It's located west of Manistique along the southern short of UP. It's a state park with a gift shop. It's a very short walk from the parking lot to the spring. We were there on a Saturday and had to wait a bit for our turn on the raft. I'd recommend if you're in the area. Cost: FREE (but requires a State Parks Pass for your vehicle if you don't already have one.) ✭✭✭✭☆ 3. Waterfalls around Munising: There are a LOT of smaller water falls around Munising. Most of them are free, but some are on private property and inaccessible or require admission. Some are literally 5-steps off the road while some require longer walks. Most were cool to visit. I would especially recommend Au Train Falls. Be ready to there to walk in the falls (wear shoes you can take off, maybe bring a small towel). Very wide falls like steps of rocks. Really cool. Cost: Varies... many FREE. ✭✭✭✭✭ 4. Glass Bottom Shipwreck Tour: This leaves from Munising Bay and is about 1.5-2 hours long. It was pretty interesting. The first ship was by far the best, the second was mostly ruins. You see a very little bit of the cliffs, but it's really about the shipwrecks. Cost: $38 pp ✭✭✭✭✭ 5. Picture Rocks Boat Cruise: There's a number of different boat cruises you can take. We chose picturerocks.com, the Spray Falls true. Really enjoyed this. The captain/narrator of the cruise was excellent and we got to see a lot of very cool sites. Be warned: It will be much cooler than you think. Bring a jacket! Cost: $55 pp ✭✭✭✭✭ 6. Miner's Castle/Miner's Falls: If you like walking in nature or seeing natural sites, then I'd recommend this. If you're not a fan of walking paths/trails, then this isn't really worth it. The falls were very cool, but a 1.2 mile walk round trip over some uneven ground. Cost: FREE, but requires a NATIONAL park pass for your vehicle, $20. This is different from the state pass. ✭✭✭✭☆ 7. Tahquamenon Falls, Upper and Lower: We stopped at both place. They've built up giftshops/food places at both of these since we were last here many years ago. Worth looking at if you're in the area and haven't seen them before. Cost: FREE (req. State pass for your car) ✭✭✭✭☆ 8. WhiteFish Point: If you've never been, it's worth going to look. If you have been before, not much new/different. Cost: Free to visit, but a $15pp charge for the Ship Wreck Museum. ✭✭☆☆☆ 9. Headlands International Dark Sky Park: This is just west of Mackinaw City. It's a a place located on the coast where light pollution is heavily limited to provide good viewing of the night sky. It was a semi-bust for us because it was slightly overcast and lots of smoke from Canadian Wildfires. Still they have a few telescopes setup to look at the moon, which was really cool. There's a Gift Shop there. Bring bug spray and be prepared to wait quite a while for it to get full dark after sunset. Cost: FREE ✭✭☆☆☆ 10. SkyBridge at Boyne City: The largest wood supported bridge in Michgian or something... I dunno. Take a ski lift up the mountain, walk across the bridge, walk back across the bridge, take a ski lift down. It was cool... scary at times. Certainly interesting, but I wouldn't say spectacular. Cost: $25 pp. ✭✭✭☆☆
  5. I mean... he is a doctor so...
  6. You start to wonder a bit if teams are getting more and more tight lipped about players they think are sleepers. If the reports are to be believed it seems many other teams had a high rating on Gibbs but the convention wisdom was that he was a second round pick according to the media. And of course the media's info is based, in large part, on what teams are telling/leaking. Might we be seeing a case of more teams thinking [for example]: "No one's talking much about Gibbs... so we're not gonna say anything either in the hopes that he falls to where we can get him."
  7. Please tell me I'm not the only one who read that as "Tigers Free" Game Merch... as in Game Merch that doesn't have anything with the Tigers on it. No? I'm the only one with poor reading skills? Okay...
  8. I think you may have missed the point there Biff. You gotta watch past the 1 minute mark.
  9. Wow... that is surprising! I know there was going to be a competition in training camp, but I honestly expected Badgley to win it.
  10. Yeah, I would too. And before anyone complains that the NFL "allows" this while suspending legal gambling, it's totally different situation.
  11. It's funny... I looked for an image of Kinzer in a Lions uniform. I've done it before without success but it's been a few years so I thought I'd try again. I didn't find an image (yet) but found out that Detroit Sports Nation just did a story on Kinzer 15 days ago! Here's the link if anyone wants to read it: https://detroitsportsnation.com/matt-kinzer-the-only-person-to-play-for-both-the-detroit-lions-and-detroit-tigers/wgbrady/nfl-lions/detroit-lions-notes/07/05/2023/417359/
  12. Wow... Obviously they're highlighting some of the worst plays there, but man... that is brutal. Mims just does NOT look like a Holmes/Campbell type of guy honestly. Now, the price paid for this flyer is very low... moving from 6th to 7th if Mims makes the roster... so I I don't mind the taking the shot. Maybe a new coaching staff and a chance of scenery motivates him and we get something for virtually nothing or... we cut him and we apparently lose nothing. That's a risk I'm more than willing to take. I'm just really, really not expecting much. That article really seems to paint Mims as the anti-ARSB.
  13. This. The trade wasn't saying Paredes had no future and so don't keep him. Rather it was: "We value this guy more than that guy." The mental health issues that Meadows is dealing with right now make it really hard to make it "fair" comparison because it looks like we just dumped a guy and got nothing (so far) in return... which is exactly what's happened. But that's asking people to predict a mental health issue that I don't think is in anyway predictable.
  14. I can't fault Hopkins. If a team offers a player stupid money, a player would be stupid to pass it up, especially so in the NFL were contracts aren't guaranteed. Know, perhaps you could argue that Hopkins would be better off signing for less on a better team that has a good chance of getting him a ring, but that assumes that 1.) A better team offered him a reasonable contract and 2.) that he cares more about the ring vs. money at this point in his career.
  15. My Favorite is Matt Kinzer for one very important reason: He's a Detroit double one-and-done.
  16. Wright seems mildly interesting to me based on what very little I know. I might consider a 7th rounder on him. But that would be heavily contingent on more research and an interview with him. He apparently was ruled academically ineligible for the next year so he's not the smartest guy when it comes to academics, but that doesn't mean he can't be "football smart." IF Holmes thinks he could be a contributor at the NFL level AND be ready to play a part Week 1, then it might be something to consider with Jamo out. But, those are two big conditions that would have to be met.
  17. Two players in the supplemental draft, both WRs: https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/07/05/nfl-grants-eligibility-supplemental-draft-milon-wright-malachi-wideman?fbclid=IwAR0wxfhVctav4zNW1KpWzWyKSGuClJxvFGSW5WeKS9aQRA_LqCewS9JvVmE If you're not familiar with the supplemental draft, the short version is teams submit bids on what round they want a player. For example, if the Lions wanted player A from the draft, they might submit a 4th round pick for him. If everyone else bid a 5th or later pick, the Lions would get him. The Lions would then forfeit a 4th round pick in next years draft. Obviously if Ravens submitted a 3rd round pick they'd get him instead and forfeit a 3rd round pick next year. The order they go in if multiple were to submit a 4th round pick (in my example) is a bit convoluted. Teams are separated into 3 groups: Playoffs Teams, non-playoff teams with >6 wins, non-playoff teams with <=6 wins. Each group then goes through a weighted lottery and that determines draft order.' Given that both players are WRs, I don't see the Lions doing anything crazy here... maybe a 6th or 7th? But who knows, given Jamo being out for the start of the season if they like one of the guys maybe they give a higher pick?
  18. Should have watched the Panthers! 😉
  19. Totally agree. Someone might counter by saying: "Well, I can't drink when I'm at work, but it's perfectly fine when not at work." Sure, okay... but the reason for that is because being under the influence at work is not good and potentially dangerous... it's certainly a liability to the company. Gambling on non-NFL games, if allowed, certainly isn't a liability thing. It's more of a: "We don't want you doing is during work time thing because you should be working." Kinda like some places have strict no-cellphone usage when on the clock. But no company would ban you from using your cellphone while at the place of business even if you're not on the clock. If you're on break they aren't going to say you can't use your cellphone. If it's after your shift but you haven't left the building yet (or parking lot) they aren't going to say no cellphone. And CERTAINLY if you're on a business trip and chilling at the hotel after the meetings/training/whatever is over they're not going to say no cellphone.
  20. Do you mean that the NFL would reward the person providing that information? I doubt that would be the case. I think it's built into the contracts that they need to report this to the NFL. Again, this is all based on my memory of what I've read, so don't treat it as gospel.
  21. Not that it was a bold prediction or anything, but just because those times when I get to say I was right are pretty slim... I was right. I didn't watch the game so I know now how it looked on the field, but it seems like the Stallions defense was pretty stout. Kept them to just 4 FGs.
  22. My understanding is that the sports books are providing the info to the NFL. I believe that this is an agreement between the NFL and the sports book to do this.
  23. Howdy, I'm looking at taking a road trip up to Pictured Rocks a little later this summer and just wondering if anyone has suggestions on things to do in the Eastern UP? I'm already thinking about taking a boat cruise to see the Pictured Rocks, though I don't know which of the various offers are the best. Also considering stopping at Tahquamenon Falls and and maybe going to Mount Arvon (highest point in Michigan). Possibly White Fish Point and the Soo Locks. Any suggestions? We're generally looking for relatively low strenuous activities or quaint shopping areas (not so much malls, but like little downtown shopping stuff).
  24. The Lions are well aware of Buddha's blatant hatred of Goff. Goff veto'd him from having a shot.
  25. Found this on facebook: I don't know if they are taking team need into account or strictly how the player has done. I think Sewell has been great for us, but if you're arguing team need, the yeah CB has been a weak spot the last couple of years while OL has been the strong spot so Surtain may have been a bigger impact player. Either way they "re-drafted Sewell" just two spot later so they're certainly not trying to say that Sewell was a back pick there. I have no idea what's going on with pick #12... apparently we traded up? Is so, why are they listing J. Williams (Javonte Williams?) as the original pick there? The biggest point in the Lions favor though is pick #10. ARSB moves all the way up from the 4th round to a top 10, 1st round pick. Right now it's hard to argue that this is the best pickup of the Holmes era in terms of production vs. draft round.
