What would life be like if we smelled with our fingers?
-
I love the opening by Don Meradith: "...well they [The Bears] haven't been able to pass the ball too well either. As a matter of fact last week against Washington Vince Evans, well he hit 12 out of 37 and you'd say that's not too good. Well the bad part is four of those he hit belonged to Washington." Ouch.

Is trading an option? Also, have we resigned Chark or gotten another WR free agent?
-
I remember that game very well. I was at my parents house watching it with many of my siblings. That's 4th and forever was amazing. I remember there was a big discussion after that game that even if Batch was healthy he should sit out against the Cards because it was going to be a cake wake against them. That was the game where the Lions scored a TD late and were down by 10 points. Bobby Ross went for 2 pts instead of kicking the extra point. If I recall correctly the Lions were in FG range at the end of the game but had to go for a TD because of the missed extra point.

I'm kinda sorta maybe leaning this way too. Obviously we don't know how the Lions are viewing the options here but it might be a possibility.

I wonder if this is active roster? Like, if he's injured and unable to play in a game, does he get the bonus? If not, might this be a not so subtle motivator to be ready?

Other than LB, is there any position where you really feel that the Lions are lacking talent? I mean, you can always upgrade any position of course, but is there really any area were you feel like we're below average beyond LB? I supposed you could say DT, TE, and WR (with Chark's status unknown)... but even those don't really feel like we're far below average if we are. Again, this is all on paper, but seriously I don't feel like there is any position where we NEED to draft a position or we'll be in poor shape.

So, by renegotiated does that mean he's taking less money? If they're just shifting money around it's it usually a restructured contract?
-
I think it's too early to say that the Secondary is a strength. They've certain added massive amounts of talent, but we need to know if it will all come together. Now, given what we know of Holmes and Campbell and how they are adding talent, I suspect that it will come together but I've been a Lions fan way too many years to assume that "on paper" will automatically translate to "on field" improvement. So, I'll go with the old Lions fans staple: I'm cautiously optimistic about the secondary.

I'm gonna say it's not air yards, unless the second column is reporting different information from the first. I don't think Josh Allen threw a 98 air yard pass.

I don't under the 2026-2028 years void part... if it's a three year deal, what does that have to do with 2026, 27, or 28?
-
Umm... I show Sudfeld had at least 6 snaps in 2022, so... I'm only joking... I get what you're saying. I would prefer to have someone other than someone's wasted 6th round pick, but I also don't want to overspend. I'm not opposed to drafting a QB early if they think someone is the next franchise QB (I don't see if with any current players, but I'm also far from an expert). I'm also not opposed to drafting a QB later if they see someone they think could be coached up to be either a competent backup they don't have to pay a lot of money for or even a diamond in the rough that will shock the league. I don't know that I target backup QB in the sense of: "Well, I really would prefer dude-A or dude-B, but I need a backup QB so I guess I'll draft dude-E or dude-F instead." But if at any given point in the draft dude-A or dude-B is a QB, I wouldn't not draft him just because Goff appears to be the QB for now and the near future.

Now that we've got Graham, why not shore up LB and DT with Jordan and Ryan? All positions of need!

Sutton's press conference: Dude sounds more like a coach than a player. Love it.

Here's you can see a video of his comments: https://nypost.com/2023/03/03/cj-stroud-says-he-looked-up-to-deshaun-watson-michael-vick/ FWIW, I think this is all very, very overblown. He said that Vick, as an AA QB inspired him and he thought Vick was underrated as a passer, that Vick showed an AA QB can be a pocket passer. What he didn't say was that he felt his game was similar to Vick. For Watson he said thought his playing style was similar to Watson's style. He did say he looked up to him, but that was right before he talked about the playing style so it seems clear he was referencing that he looked up to his playing style. He also said that Joe Burrow inspired him... that he doesn't actually need to be the fastest guy on the field to still be effective with his athleticism. It may not have been the smartest thing in the world to reference two QBs who had/have major off the field issues, but I think it's very clear in his (very brief) comments that he was talking about their on field actions that inspired and motivated him. I think Stroud kinda got taken out of context because it made such a good headline.

After last year, I want the Lions to volunteer every year. I loved watching Hard Knocks.

I dunno that the Jets have lost all leverage. If GB makes an impossible an impossible ask the Jets can pull away. Yeah, it'll suck for them not having a top name QB and they'll have a very down year, but they could make the argument with their fans that they tried everything to secure Rodgers but GB was unreasonable. Also at this point there's no real issue of some other team moving in and trying to make a bid for Rodgers. And if the trade doesn't get done Rodgers retires. I'm not sure what that does to the Packers cap situation, but at the very least they're not getting anything from him. It's better to get a something from a trade, even if it isn't a kings ransom, than to get nothing. I agree that the Jets are in a weaker negotiating position right now than two weeks ago, but I don't think it's a horrendous situation.

Just because I can... here's another semi-GB related trivia bit: Who did Brett Favre through his first completion to?
-
Gotcha... I thought you were talking more about people here on the forum.

If I'm the Jets I don't think I'm paying two firsts to Rodgers. The big difference between Rodgers and Stafford is age. When Stafford was traded he was 32. Rodgers is 39 now. It's unlikely you'll get more than a three years, at best, out of Rodgers, and it's also likely that his skills are going to be declining sharply. Maybe the Jets get a SB out of Rodgers and then hey... whatever the cost it was worth it because you got the trophy. But I'm not sure I'm putting that much future assets into a guy who's declining and will be gone soon (not to mention all the off the field weird stuff).

Well, sure... but if we traded Swift then our running backs would be: And clearly having the ability to refer to our RBs with a defunct retail's name is more important than having a good team, so... get it do Holmes!

Now that we've signed David Montgomery, I really want the Lions to trade Swift to the Cardinals for Jonathan Ward.
