But the stupidity here is that IF the Lions were that high on a guy to make this trade, why wouldn't they do with with whomever has the #1 pick? Why even risk (however unlikely that it is) that the their guy goes #1 overall? The only way this makes sense (which it doesn't for some many other reasons) is if the Lions offered this deal to the tame with the overall #1 pick but that team rejected the Lions AND that team didn't draft the guy the Lions really wanted AND there was serious danger that someone else was going to move up and take the guy the Lions wanted. It's just dumb stacked on top of stupid with a dash of idiotic thrown in. It's horrible deal for the Lions in a totally unreasonable situation.

Ya know... the really, really, really stupid thing here is that these sorts of trades... where you give away the entire house along with the kitchen sink only seem to happen when we're talking a franchise QB, can't miss prospect is available. Let's assume that such a QB even exists at the time of the draft... why would the Lions pay that much to move ahead of the Bears who already have a QB they love? The only possible reason is if someone else is offering a similar package to get this mystery QB. But... if there is a QB worthy of mortgaging the future for, why would the Lions trade with the Bears at #2? I can't imagine a team with the #1 pick rejecting an offer like this. Heck, even if I'm that team and I need a QB I would seriously consider that offer. Move back two spaces and pick up an extra first rounder this year and next year (not to mention all the other picks)? Yes please. This offer is just so ridiculously one sided. If Holmes did this with the Bears... giving a north division rival this kind of haul... it should be fired before he could put in the pick.

It's the age old debate... is it better to be a great team that goes deep in the playoffs but doesn't win it all regularly? Or is it better to have those flashes of greatness and bring it all home even if it means lots of low times between? I think the answer to that is pretty much settled. For example, look at this item for sale online You'll note that there is zero references here to the 2006 season or the 2011-2014 seasons.

Don't forget Ifeatu Melifonwu with the 3rd round pick. Granted, he hasn't done much this year but he still might turn into something.

So... is Carroll/Wilson the anti-Belichick/Brady? I mean you've got a QB who was considered fantastic who dropped off the cliff when he left Seattle while Geno fricken-Smith moves into Seattle and starts winning and putting up great numbers. Compare that with how NE has dropped off the cliff after Brady left and TB goes on to win a SB with Brady.

First the obligatory disclaimer: I never want to see someone seriously hurt or injured. But having said that, it's SO much more fun to root for a team to lose so you get a high draft pick when it's not your team that needs to lose to get that high draft pick. I can fully rationalize that it makes sense for the Lions to lose to improve draft position (especially with a GM who actually appears to be able to find talent with those picks), but I still find it very, very hard to actually want to lose come game time. But this year? Man, it's just fun to see the Rams lose.

Ewww... I hate that trade. As Buddha nicely put it earlier... I'll defer to people much more talented in prospect analysis than I am (ie, an actual NFL front office)... but at first blush... ewww. I give up a 12th over all and my first 2nd-round pick and wherever we land in 2024 to move up 3 spaces in the first round and 6 spaces in the second round? That just feels like WAY to much price for the small jumps.

Well, to be fair, winning cures everything. But I completely agree with your thoughts here and it wasn't the clock management that screwed the Lions, it was the that 3rd and 1 play. Whether we blame Goff or Chark or Campbell or Johnson for the play... that's certainly debatable. (Or perhaps we just tip the cap to a better team that got a defensive stop?) Again, whomever you blame... the clock management shouldn't be in the picture. Given the distance and the number of TOs the Lions had, there was plenty of time to go for the win if they pick up that first down. And that doesn't even mention that they were (obviously) in FG range so that have as an option to tie the game is they start running out of time.

I mean, this is what Holmes was supposed to be known for, so it's great to see it playing out... at least so far. I've always hesitant to put too much faith into small sample sizes... but Rodrigo is not really a small sample size anymore.

I guess that's my feeling... I expected this to be a loss... I was worried it would be a blow out (especially with Okudah out). I'm not happy with the loss... they had a chance to win this one. But I didn't expect it.

I think the reason McNeil isn't being celebrated more is that we're all kinda wondering if this is a one-hit wonder game for him or if he'll start to consistently be a force.

Add in Jason "Stickyhands" Cabinda out of the back field and there's no stopping these Lions!

Updated stats. Jags were on bye this week so no changes to Walker. Looking on the NFL player stats page... there are 25 players per page when you sort 'em. Right now Hutch is on page 2 for both Sacks and INTs.

Lake Effect snow will do that. You bands coming off the lake where it falls like crazy under the band, but a few miles north or south of the band will get a lot less.

Rest of the schedule: Bills (7-3) - Bills are the better team... never say never but I'm going to assume a loss. Jaguars (3-7) - Lions should win at home. Vikings (8-2) - It'll be interesting. Can the Lions redeem themselves? I'm going to be pessimistic and same no. @ Jets (6-4) - I think the Lions can win this one. @ Panthers (3-8) - Lions should be able to win. Bears (3-8) - I'll be very disappointed if the Lions don't win. @ Packers (4-7) - Why does it seem like we always play @ GB at the end of the year? Loss. 4-3 the rest of the year is very realistic and of the three losses really only the Bills game is one where I'd feel like we pulled a massive upset. Obviously anything can happen and injuries can effect stuff. Should at least be an entertaining end to the season.

And for those who are Daboll fans, I think it's worth noting here that he failed to plan appropriately or adjust to what the Lions where doing.

I don't think he really is that slow, I think he's just over thinking things too much. Instead of just reacting and going, he's constantly trying to find the homerun, and that means he strikes out way too much. Singles and Doubles aren't as sexy as the HR, but put enough of them together and they'll get the job done just as much as a HR, with a lot fewer strike outs.

If it's more than minimum wage, it's too much. And I mean the Federal Minimum wage... not the NFL minimum.
