  1. The thing is that not all situations are the same. Campbell obviously though Lynn wasn't doing a good job with the assets he had and felt he could do better. It's possible that Campbell thinks AG is doing the best he can with limited assets. It could be that Campbell is telling AG that he's got to improve massively or he's gone after 2022 and that he's not "firing" AG like he did with Lynn because he (Campbell) doesn't feel comfortable calling the defense and figures they'd be worse so AG is just the best option right now. There's too many variables, imho, to say: Offense is bad, OC fired; therefore if Defense is bad, DC should be fired. There's too many other things that come into play so say if A happened and B didn't happen that it's hypocritical.
  2. Can you imagine all the injuries that would happen from that? It would be an utter madhouse. ...and give the Lions a chance to win on T-Day. Okay, let's do it!
  3. I laughed but I still hate it.
  4. I've said it before and I'll say it again here: Nothing said/posted during a game should count as being "on the record" for an fan. We'll all a bit deranged and knee-jerk reacting during games. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought a player should be cut from the team during half time only to see them as potential MVP caliber by the end of the game.
  5. That's a very cynical way to look at it, and it might not be 100% wrong, but I strongly suspect it's also not 100% correct. The reality is that we'll never know exactly all that goes on behind closed doors. You're assumption is that AP was let go because they had to fire someone. But you don't allow that AP was let go perhaps because he wasn't getting the job done with the people he had. A good evaluation of a coach will obviously include what he has to work with. Tom Brady's QB coach and Joey Harrington's QB coach might be putting in the same effort and have the same skill and yet still see wildly different results from their QBs. It is entirely possible, perhaps likely, that AP's group was regressing and/or he wasn't coaching the plays/methods/styles that AG and/or Campbell wanted and that he refused or was incapable for changing after he was told to. It is entirely possible that AP was let go not because of failings on the field but in compatibility with the rest of the staff. You mention that AP should get (some) credit for Okudah, and you're probably right. But should he also not get an equal amount of blame for Oruwariye then? I personally don't disagree that there was probably some level of public image to the firing of AP. The Lions has to show that they were trying to improve the defense. But I also suspect there was more than just picking a name out of a hat of defensive coaches not named AG. I suspect if that they might have done more of a "quiet firing" like they did with Lynn last year if the defense was doing okay. I suspect that it's not a questions of AP being a scapegoat or a legit problem but rather AP being a bit of a scapegoat AND a bit of a legit problem. And the fact that the secondary has seemed to play better since AP's firing lends support to the idea that AP was an issue (admittedly with a small sample size).
  6. I don't know that the Lions are necessarily bad against the run. Now, they aren't great, but I don't know that they are bad against standard running teams. Now, if the QB is a good running QB, then the Lions have serious problems. But outside of that they are just on the bad side but not horrendously bad. Here's the yardage for the games not including Philly and Chicago: Wash: 88 Minn: 123 Seattle: 235 NE: 176 Dallas: 139 Miami: 107 GB: 106 That's a total of 974 yards or 139 yards per game. If we multiple that by 9 games we get 1251 yards, which would put us 9th worst in yardage given up per game. Yeah, I know I'm arguing that they only kinda suck instead of totally suck against the run, but I'm not as worried about a conventional running NFL team.
  7. If you're expecting Detroit to find two starters in round two, you're going to have a bad time...
  8. Cleveland would have the advantage of being one of the teams fan bases. Now, the Bills might prefer a neutral site if they can't have it at home, but the NFL might prefer a stadium filled with fans vs. a mostly empty Ford Field. I still think too the Bills aren't going to just camp out in Detroit for the 4 days (unless Buffalo is impossible to get in and out of). They're prefer their own facilities and practice field to get ready for Detroit.
  9. I know that the NFL does like to intrude on traditional highschool or college gamedays. I don't think there is any formal agreement though on this so in an emergency they obviously could do it on a Saturday when college football is still going on (and even if there is a formal agreement on this they still might be able to do it in an emergency). If the snow it's supposed to really hit until Saturday night/Sunday morning, then I think this makes sense. I suspect most people involved (vendors/fans/media/etc) would be able to do Saturday. Obviously not all, but most.
  10. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/bills-vs-browns-weather-as-much-as-six-feet-of-snow-could-hit-buffalo-area-lake-effect-snow-warning-issued/ There's no way they'd move it to Mon or Tues, right? I mean that'd be awful for the Bills. Even Playing Monday night and then having your next game be just 60 hours later? I can't see the NFL delaying the T-day game to give the Bills more time to recover.
  11. Not the worst idea... I mean, I suspect they'd rather be in their own practice facility between the games but if Buffalo really gets hammered it might not be possible to get in and out of the city easily anyway.
  12. Ya know, not that I want to be in a position where my team doesn't have a first round pick, but.... it's probably at least a little bit liberating for the fans knowing that there isn't any discussion/worry/thought about trying to avoid winning meaningless games to have a better draft pick. Again: I'd still rather have the pick.
  13. I believe they did this once before, didn't they? I know Detroit hosted a Vikings home game against someone else when their old dome collapsed due to snow and I seem to remember that something happened with a Bills game around then too. Edit to add: I searched around a bit a found it: In 2014 the Jets vs. Bills game was moved to Detroit because of snow: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/21/sports/football/bills-home-game-against-jets-will-be-relocated.html
  14. So... what hat does Verlander wear in the HOF?
  15. Each game? Bah! I'm calling for Campbell to get fired if they don't win the coin toss.
  16. I wouldm't mind seeing him in a few games this year so he gets some NFL experience, but don't rush him.
  17. Ditto. I don't want to see a player hurt, but that's part of the game and this player being hurt helps the Lions with the draft.
  18. I've said it before and I'll say it again... I SOOO wish I could switch to this audio during the game instead of the national announcers.
  19. Right now St. Brown is tied with Mike Evans with 49 receptions. That good enough for 13th in the league. This despite the fact that Brown sat out wk 4 against Seattle and 85% of week 7 against Dallas. It just amazes me how often he's open given that he's often the only real receiving threat the Lions have with all the other injuries. It could be really interesting when Jamo gets on the field.
  20. Well I see two possibilities: 1. He's not fully healed but the Lions consider a 85% Swift better than a 100% someone else. 2. He's gun shy now and worried about further damage to his body so is avoiding going all out.
  21. Sounds like a "buddy" hire more than thinking he'll make a real difference for the Pack. That and maybe giving the Packers a few insights into how to beat the Lions next goround.
  22. Not that I want him out, but Evan Brown filled in very nicely last year so it's probably the one OL spot I'd be the least concerned about. Again, I'd much rather have Ragnow in, but if you asked me to pick an OL that had to be out for an extended period, that's the one I'd probably pick.
  23. Just thought it might be interesting to look at the three big defensive line options from the last draft. Obviously this is still very earlier in each player's career and involves different situations so this isn't a perfect apples to apples comparison. But still: Travon Walker (15 games) Tackles (Solo/Assist): 20/25 Sacks: 3.5 Fumbles (Forced/Recovered): 1/0 INTs: 1 Pass Defended: 2 Safety: 0 Aidan Hutchinson (17 games) Tackles (Solo/Assist): 28/18 Sacks: 9.5 Fumbles (Forced/Recovered): 0/2 INTs: 3 Pass Defended: 3 Safety: 0 Kayvon Thibodeaux (13 games) Tackles (Solo/Assist): 27/16 Sacks: 4 Fumbles (Forced/Recovered): 2/2 INTs: 0 Pass Defended: 5 Safety: 0 Updated 01/10/2023
  24. Rams down 17-3 part way into the 3rd. If they lose the Lions and Rams will have the same record.
