Lions at Vikings - 10/10/21 - 1:00pm - FOX
RedRamage replied to MotownWebGuy's topic in Detroit Lions
Generally speaking, I don't think most teams have a decent backup QB. There are exceptions of course, but I think it's pretty rare these days that any team has a backup that good enough to step in without losing (much) talent. But I do get what you're saying. It does seem like the Lions have rare been even mediocre at backup. Who was the last one that seemed semi-decent? Hill? -
Lions at Vikings - 10/10/21 - 1:00pm - FOX

It's frustrating that they give up so much on the last drive... too much prevent. But honestly yeah... the Vikings were stupid not to be throwing a LOT more than they did. They could have been up so much more. -
Also, while I love the aggressive play on 4th downs generally... I think we were a little too aggressive this game. There is a time and a place, but... there's also times when the FG or punt is a better idea.

My feeling as well. Just looked awful out there, making so many mistakes. Honestly, it felt like Lions were looking past this game, just assuming this was a W and don't worry 'about it.

Reposting in the official thread 'cause I'm stupid and didn't realize there's already a thread for this stuff...

That sucks Cruzer. Best of luck and prayers sent.

Lions at Packers - 9/20/21 - Monday Night Football
RedRamage replied to RedRamage's topic in Detroit Lions
So even if the Tigers get swept by the White Sox, worst case they'll end up 76-86... so 10 games under .500. That's worst case. That means the Lions need to win 7 games to tie, 8 to "beat" the Tigers. I don't think that's going to happen. -
And obviously I won't be starting this thread if I didn't have one to put in right away. I've gotten kinda hooked on The Longest Johns recently and came across this song a few days back.
-
Thought this might be an interesting thing to do. Post your current favorite song. The idea here isn't to flood the thread with dozens of songs of your favorite artist(s), but rather every so often when you find a song that you really enjoy, share it here for others.

Here's how the NFL ranked 'em: 27. Detroit Lions 28. Houston Texans 29. Chicago Bears 30. NY Giants 31. Jacksonville Jaguars 32. NY Jets

Honestly, I wouldn't be happy... but I also wouldn't be super angry if it was someone commuting. But if there's no other option (ie, no sidewalk, no easy way via side streets) I'd understand. It was just that this guy looked to be out exercising, on a major roadway, during rush hour... it just feel like a dick move. Legally he was in the right. But legally I can walk down a sidewalk repeatedly cursing even if there are young children around. That still doesn't make it a nice thing to do.

Anyone else using this? If so, what's been your experience so far? I just started using it yesterday and got $6.71 back on my first fill up. So far seems to be legit. If you don't know about it it's like a lot of those other cashback things... you buy a products, take a picture of your receipt, and they give you some money back. The difference here is that it's on gas, which many of us are buying a lot of anyway. Looks like the normal "cash back" is 6 cents to 12 cents in my area (depending on the station), but of course there are bonus deals. When you sign up use "baseball" as the bonus code and you get like a $25 cent bonus per gallon on one transaction. And yes of course this there's a referral element involved. If you use my code (6XGZPE) you and I both get a bonus 15 cents per gallon on the next transaction as well.

A couple of days back someone was going down a major artery road on his bike, during rush hour. The speed limit on the road was 45mph and he was causing a massive backup in traffic. Two lanes in each direction and normally that's not enough during rush hour. There wasn't enough room to get around him in the one lane of course so traffic was just way backed up in that lane and the other was obviously effected as people tried to jump out of the right into the left. Now, legally... yes, he was totally allowed to do this and it was within his rights. But dude... just common curtesy would seem to be that rush hour isn't the time to be out road biking. Just to pre-answer a few inevitable questions: There was a sidewalk in the area, but legally speaking he was right to be in the road. Not that I think the police would have gone after him at all had he been on the sidewalk. There was no bike lane. While he could have been a commuter, I don't think this was the case. He was in full spandex on a road bike without any bags/packs on the bike or himself so seems unlikely that he was commuting.

I think MCS' issue is that the Lions made is seem like they had multiple teams lining up to trade for him. Cutting him wasn't the issue, it was the smokescreen of trying to make it look like they were getting something for him. Now, perhaps they were doing that in and effort to try to drum up interest from another team, but that seems rather silly. I can't imagine any teams front office would fall for that... thinking they better make a trade off before some other team snatched up with asset.

Anyone watch La Brea last night? I was intrigued with the premise of this show but I dunno... watching the first episode it's a bit different than what I was expecting. And some of the characters are... rather silly. Add in some really poor writing, some serious questions about the science and a healthy dash of supernatural... I'm not sold yet. I'm not writing the show off yet, but it wasn't a great start in my humble opinion.

Ohh... good question. The following week is at Vikings, who are also 1-2 (same as Bears) but I feel like they are in better shape over all. I'd give them less of a chance to win in Minnesota than in Chicago. Then we host the 2-1 Bengals who are think aren't that good, but still I don't see a win there. Next is @Rams, loss. Then Eagles... probably loss. @Steelers... probably loss. @Browns... probably loss. Then we host the Bears for T-Day. That's probably the next time I'd expect a win. (Obviously this is all based on only 3 weeks of games and a lot can changes in the following weeks, so it's just a guess)

Not that it matters, but the NFL's power rankings have the Lions two spots over the Bears... 27 vs. 29. Feels weird to think there are 5 teams (allegedly) worse than the Lions.

The Lions better win this one. This is the first game where I think the Lions have a reasonably good chance of winning. The defense appears to show some signs of life last week. The Bears are a mess. A loss here would feel like a step backwards for this team to me. I didn't expect a win in any of the first three games and of course while they didn't win, they played hard and at least looked like they at least kinda-sorta belonged in the NFL. This week I feel like the Lions can and should win and I'll be sad with a loss. (Of course, now that I've said this the Lions will get absolutely destroyed by Justin Fields, whom they passed on, and Sewell will get injured and be out for the rest of the season.)

I wouldn't mind getting the QB earlier than that and having him ride the pine for a year or so. I think it would be helpful to have him be able to practice and learn for a year before having to lead the team. That said, I won't go a draft a QB just to make sure I had him on the roster a year early. If there's no franchise QB type options in the draft, don't reach for one just to have the "QB of the future" on the team.

Yeah, it seems a bit odd to say the least. I supposed it depends on what you call a suitor. I mean, the Lions might be technically correct if teams called 'em and said: "Hey, we might be interested, can we get permission to talk to him?" I mean you might technically call that a suitor but probably all it was was a team wanted to know why Collins was playing like crap before deciding if they want to try and look at him after the Lions cut him. Fans will see through the "technically correct" in a heartbeat and call it bull.
