  1. One guess as to who Rendon’s top batting comparison is on bbref.
  2. Fouls. Too many dumb ones. Too many times in early foul trouble. Still not much of an offensive game aside from pick and rolls, but damnit if those pick and rolls aren’t an almost guaranteed two points. Defense is still lacking, but nobody plays defense these days.
  3. I liked what Kelser mentioned about how Thompson and Holland give an on court energy similar to Rodman and Salley. I’ve had that thought about Holland for a while. Thompson, while it never occurred to me, I see what he’s saying there, too. I’m just happy to see him recover from a disappointing rookie season.
  4. Box score fun: The Hornets actually outscored the Pistons in 3 of the 4 quarters.
  5. The local Krogers is always out of snozzberries.
  6. False. A WSox-Seattle game likely means better weather than the Super Bowl.
  7. Eh… yeah, I guess. But it still doesn’t comfort me for this season.
  8. Yes, I opted for the ESPN feed the other night vs …. whoever it was….. because of the same issue. The random pixels throughout a broadcast are annoying. I honestly don’t remember the last time I’ve watched a Fan Duel / Ballys production without them.
  9. Just stop and think about that sentence that you typed out.
  10. His poor 2024 would be one of the better bats on the 2024 Tigers. He’s had 4 seasons of 2.9 WAR or higher. My concern with him is in the field, both himself directly and moving Keith to another position. But the bat should be helpful and the contract isn’t onerous.
  11. Some of that is just criminal.
  12. Is it within the realm of possibility that Baez rebounds enough at the plate and hangs on defensively such that he is a viable everyday SS and Sweeney/Vierling make a good 3B platoon this season? I’m not convinced that can happen, but I’m also not convinced that Jung is a 3B. I think this IF defense could be crummy, especially on the right side of the diamond.
  13. I do like the idea of front loading contracts such that the salary and expected production are more in line with each other over the life of the contract on an aging player.
  14. Wow, Flaherty returns, and on that safe contract! I think I just peed myself a little bit.
  15. Saving that defense for the playoffs.
  16. Now we’re quantifying intangibles.
  17. Peres may be higher on the pecking order than Torkelson. I’m just not sure there’s a spot for either on the 13 as of now. They’re probably the first 2 off of the roster at this point, but who knows for sure. A Baez IL stint probably works in favor of one of those players. Sure would be nice if Malloy had developed as a 3B.
  18. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face. ---Tyson 3:16
  19. Assume a 13 man pitching staff and take out the 2 catchers. 1B Keith 2B Torres SS Baez/Sweeney 3B Jung/Ibanez LF Greene CF Meadows RF Carpenter/Vierling DH Torkelson That's 11. Now, we can debate back and forth the worthiness of McKinstry, but I think its likely safe to assume he makes the roster. But at the expense of whom? Perhaps an injury makes that decision, but that's no fun. So, is it Torkelson, Jung, Baez? Maybe Sweeney? I think the OF is fine. Greene plays just about everyday because he's the all around best position player on the club. Meadows' glove can play everyday and its understood that isn't his calling card. Carpenter is probably the best power threat (vs RHPs). Vierling can probably play everyday among spelling the OFs and being an option at 3B if needed there. But that IF..... egads. It just seems like a lot is expected in terms of maturation amongst the youngsters and a rebound from Torres and Baez. I have my doubts about how strong that limb is that the Tigers are seemingly willing to climb out onto.
  20. Were they afraid that word would leak quickly that Doncic wasn't going to resign and that might lower his trade value? Even then, they've still got to play the field against each other to get the best deal.
  21. To me it depends upon what other moves occur. If they have a suitable RF option to replace Carpenter and he is used to fill a hole elsewhere, that's fine. What 3B options are there? Jung, who should probably be at 2B? Vierling, who will probably be counted on for OF reps? Ibanez, who maybe they've probably squeezed out what they could the last 2 seasons? McKinstry? The more I think about this IF, the less I like it. I do appreciate versatility on a roster. But I'm just not sure that the sum of the IF parts is going to be all that encouraging.
  22. I don't know. The Yankees acquiring Ruth for diddlyfreakingpooh was a bit of a one sided thing.
  23. 6 tool player?
