Fair point about Fontecchio.
-
Losing a game by 30 is one thing. Losing by about 30 at the end of one should get them relegated to the MAC.
-
They were down 32 in the 2nd, so they made a bit of a comeback effort I guess. I completely agree with you about Gores. I've felt this way for a while, but I get sucked into the new season optimism only to be smashed on the head like its some kind of whack a mole game.

Ain't no hangover like a victory over a depleted 76ers team hangover 'cuz a victory over a depleted 76ers team hangover don't stop. Well, at least they didn't get nabbed for 6 men on the court tonight.

I like the kid’s efficiency and boundary testing skills.

“Schooner Tuna. The little can with the big heart.” I think that was the tag line that her role came up with for that commercial that was shown at the end of the movie. That’s probably one of the earliest movies that I can remember.

I might be on an island, but I’d like to see Sasser get some minutes. I wouldn’t do that at the expense of what Bickerstaff has done by having at least one of Cunningham/Ivey on the court at all times. So, that plays into other guys’ minutes (Hardaway, Beasley). Fontecchio seems to have regressed from last season and Harris has been bad. Sure would be nice for them to get it together soon.

Oh, I agree, I don't think it was fatigue that stopped him from covering 1st. But that failure was compounded upon later on.
-
Yup. I'd probably have had 6 fouls in less than 10 minutes.
-
That ground out came on the 21st pitch of the inning, many of the later pitches being stressful. Cole had to toss another 17 stressful pitches in order to get the 3rd out.
-
6 fouls in less than 11 minutes. He was overly active.

I don't see how Jung gets a roster spot over McKinstry at this time. I think Jung needs to play every day. If the Tigers do find an everyday 3B, and are committed to Keith at 2B, where does Jung play? McKinstry is more likely to make the roster as the utility player because he's serviceable at SS and the OF. Now, if the Tigers think Jung is ready for everyday MLB time next season, I think that's a different roster spot than he and McKinstry are vying for. As far as Perez is concerned, he might be in competition with Malloy for last OF on the roster with the loser going to Toledo. Or I suppose it might work out that both start the season in Toledo. Although I don't expect, I wouldn't be surprised to see some part of Vierling/Carpenter/Malloy/Perez traded this offseason. But it also would be advantageous to have some OF roster depth in Toledo as we've seen Greene and Carpenter dinged up from time to time.

Well, his OPS was .677 on a .298 BABIP when the Tigers were in more or a playoff run than in August. I think in fairness, looking at his 2nd half can be split up a bit. I don’t know what ultimately becomes of him. I think it’s fine to have him work on things this off-season and spring training with the intent of him being he starting 1B on Opening Day. He did show improved defensive ability, so that aptitude for building his skill set up is there. But I wouldn’t consider that a locked down position for the season.
-
I was looking at his splits the other day because of the optimism about his 2nd half. It was a feast in August and famine in September, relatively speaking. If he can find a way to get that .419 BABIP in August to apply more consistently throughout the season, that’d be dandy. I’m just not sure it’s going to happen. I agree about a RHH 3B. I’m just not as sold on throwing money at Bregman as others. I don’t know if an under the radar shorter term signing with someone they think they can fix up is the answer or if they’ll have to go the trade route. And I don’t mind Vierling getting occasional time at 3B, but I think he’s more of an OF that can get more playing time than just as a platoon player and would be more effective on the grass.

Wasn’t this widely considered to be a pretty open playoff field with no real obvious favorites? I think the lack of any 100 win teams probably had something to do with that (on top of the fact that it’s baseball and chalk doesn’t always apply). And here we are, 1 seed vs 1 seed.

How’s your driveway?

The fans are probably a part of the consideration, I would think. Once you do the math to remove the TV and movie stars that get shown during the games, there’s around 35,000 on up in the stadium. Plus, unlike throwing a court down or getting ice ready, there’s the field to deal with, making sure it’s ready to go. And really, with the NBA and NHL, isn’t there usually an additional buffer day or two between the last possible game 7 and the start of the championship round? Maybe there isn’t, but I think there is at least a hangover day, a travel day, and a day before.

Only one way to go from here. -
Doesn’t seem to be too much effort to his delivery. Of course, that’s only one variable.

Probably a day in there in case the LCS is backed up a day as well. I know there’s a rest vs rust debate in baseball. I don’t mind an extra day before the World Series to allow each team a possibility to tweak their rotations a bit in order to maximize their pitching. It might not be evident in the first game, but maybe it allows a guy to be bumped up from game 4 or 3 to game 3 or 2.

Raccoons are assholes. I ran over one that scurried out in front of me. 3 days and 150 miles later, my Grand Am engine light pops on and it starts running funny. The raccoon cost me $2,200 in radiator and condenser related damages. It’s like I ran over a damn oversized bowling ball.

Loss. Will Drunk Uncle Tommy be there? -
If it’s one or the other for corner IF, get the 3B, all other things being equal.
