No, probably not. It depends on what the rotation looks like at the end of March. At the same time, do we expect the top four to be healthy come playoff time? Jobe might be a top four healthy and available starter then.
-
The other part of the innings build up with young Detroit pitchers is that now playoff innings might actually be a reasonable guesstimated part of the calculation. So what does that look like for Jobe? What is the maximum workload the Tigers will allow? Do they assume a certain number of those could be playoff innings? Is there a premium for those higher stress innings vs a random Tuesday night start against Pittsburgh?

I’m happily married. Otherwise, I’d give it a go.
-
What gives me pause about Jobe is the inning increase from this season to next. I looked at it again, and I didn’t realize he was almost at 100 for this season. I thought he was only at around 75-80. If they can manage his workload at the major league to not overload the increase, then that’s fine. But can they also mimic the Paul Skenes’ plan where the April starts aren’t as long, build up the in season per game stamina, and save some pitches for the postseason? I think it’s easier to manage a major league staff if that Skenes plan starts out in the minors. But maybe they use Jobe as an opener early on, they can follow him with whatever bulk relievers they need to, and then as the season goes on, he can stretch out.

Skubal, FA, Olson, FA, winner of Mize/Maeda/Montero to start the season. Montero, Jobe, Madden, Gipson-Long can start out in Toledo and be available as injuries occur.

Gaddis pitched a stressful top of the inning, Skubal threw 5 pitches in the bottom of that inning, and then Gaddis went back out to pitch. I thought that was going to be the in for the Tigers. Gaddis didn't have much time at all to recover in between innings.

Yes, he sure could use a tune up.

Playing in the Tampa Yankees park? Is that where the Yankees play spring training games? Doesn’t part of the park resemble Yankee Stadium? That could be interesting. For what it’s worth, the Tigers play in Tampa June 20-22 this upcoming season.
-
Hold on, you went to Jarry Park when it was the baseball stadium? Maybe they played there longer than I think they did. Ok, 1976. Duh. They moved to Stade Olympique after the Olympics.

Sign both starters?

I’ll agree with you that Greene and Meadows are likely everyday players. Greene might see some of those starts at DH. Meadows’ glove doesn’t platoon. I think I’m general, that DH spot goes to an OF more often that not. That’s Greene, Carpenter, and Malloy. I don’t think Vierling or Perez garner any DH time to include them in this group. Keith and Torkelson might get the occasional DH game, but again, not enough to include in this point. So, yeah, that means maybe one too many of Greene, Meadows, Carpenter, Vierling, Malloy, Perez on the roster if a 3B is acquired. Malloy hasn’t really played much MLB OF. His bat was needed this season, and that’s his calling card now. But if he doesn’t improve defensively and the Tigers acquire a two way player, that might push one of he/Perez to Toledo. That wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world as that would be everyday playing time in Toledo and that’s a good depth piece as well. The other aspect is that someone of the bunch could be traded for returning talent. So that would alleviate some of the OF jumble.

I'm also curious about trying Keith at 3B again. I understand him at 2B this season given the throwing concerns. But I agree with you about the range, in particular with Torkelson next door. I question Jung's arm and reflexes at 3B, but I'm wholly unqualified there. I just wonder if we see a return to previous position swap this offseason, Keith to 3B and Jung to 2B. But then I also wonder about bringing in another corner IF to try to upgrade 3B and hedge Torkelson at 1B next season. If Torkelson just doesn't have it, there's depth there to move Keith back to 3B, shuffle the new dude to 1B. If things work out, Keith remains at 2B for next season, the new dude handles 3B, and Torkelson revives his career at 1B.

Bust out the flux capacitor and go back ten years ago. Now try to convince someone that halfway through a college football season in the not too distant future, Indiana and Oregon would share the lead in the Big Ten.
-
What if they try to develop both as Cs with a minor at 1B? Surely its easier on paper in practice, but if the bats play well enough, is there anything to gain there? Days at 1B would be less taxing than C. Maybe it helps with roster construction? I don't know, just kind of spitballing here.

American League Division Series Game #5 (2-2) 1:08PM 10/12/24

As much as I disdain the Yankees and don't want to listen to the national slobbering over a Dodgers vs Yankees series, and as much as I know that baseball is not quite as mano a mano as this scenario would be force fed upon us, seeing Ohtani and Judge in the World Series does pique my interest. Aside from that, I'm not really sure I care for who makes it. How many days until pitchers and catchers report? -

Matt Manning? Names sounds familiar, but I can't place it. Is that a guy from that Monday Night Football show? -

Yup. I thought Skubal's next inning, 3 outs in 5 pitches, was a turning point. The Tigers in the next half inning had Gaddis on the ropes. He wiggles out of it, barely has time to sit and catch his breath, and then he's back on the mound. I thought was where the Cleveland bullpen usage was going to crack. Oh, man, what a final 2-3 months. I'm just not ready for it to end. But it has. They probably haven't gone 2-3 in a 5 game stretch since, what, without looking it up, around Labor Day and maybe including the 1-2 San Diego series? -

Thanks to @Tigeraholic1 for another season of diligence with the game threads. Usually it was posted on time and sometimes it even had correct information. 😆 -

Well, take this for what it’s worth. Of the several Cleveland fans that I encountered around these last few days, none of them wanted to face the Tigers. -

Good time to do the entire Bert in one inning thing.
