2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread

Don’t underestimate carry out, delivery, or dine in. -
Clearly your sacrifice was to our benefit. Bless you, good sir.

If the Dems let it go because Clinton or some other big name is on the list, then shame on them. And it goes to show both sides as morally bankrupt.

I agree, I don't think he'll be forced to deal with the consequences for his actions. Best case scenario is more within his base finally figure out who he truly is rather than continuously falling for whatever false imagery they have about him.

I don't necessarily disagree with the overall tone. I'm just not sure how fair it is to lump the second half of last season in when explaining this team. They had 2 SPs for a large part of that back half, a fantastic bullpen, and relied on pitching chaos. This year is a pretty significant difference in that aspect. Heck, just looking at Flaherty alone is a contradiction of success over 140 vs the last 11 or 15 or whatever. But they're not the best team in the league as they were for the 1st 3 months of this season. They're not the worst team in the league as they have shown in the last two weeks. They're somewhere in between, and simply going through a slump right now.

Pitching chaos was fun last year. Certainly not a sustainable strategy. I think we now know why Flaherty couldn’t find the deal he was looking for. Kudos to him for pulling it together last season. But I guess he’s just an inconsistent pitcher as his resume says he is. Sure would be nice for Mize and Olson to get through the 6th inning on a consistent basis going forward. That’d be helpful for sure.

Can’t wait to see how many countries boycott the 2028 Summer Olympics.

That's not rain. That's Toronto tears.

Sure, but probably not as much as I'd like Alex "I have no idea where the ball is going to go" Lange being brought back.
-
He's an A student. Not bad at all.

I think it’s a reasonable assumption going forward that Baez and McKinstry cool off, Vierling and Meadows heat up, and Torkleson has found himself. I also think it’s reasonable assumption that Carpenter gives the offense a boost hen he returns. I’m just not sure it’s reasonable to assume he’ll be healthy for the rest of the season, but that’s what they‘ll have to hope for.

I’ll say no. -
THE Matt Manning? Gonna politely decline, thank you.
-
No, they need BP arms. This stretch right now is a combination of nothing working. But we've seen the offense work. The BP really hasn't been up to task for a much longer stretch. Part of the offensive game has been aggressive base running. Can't do that with minimal base runners. I'd wager the OBP has been amongst the bottom of the barrel the last couple of weeks.

Those are notable, no question. They had sizable leads because the division stinks and they have not had a bad stretch of baseball yet. They're in it now. They weren't going wire to wire without one. Hardly any team does. -
See, someone is already laughing about.
-
Part of the angst against him might simply have been spill over from being part of that era of Tiger malaise. Personally I don't care about trading within the division. What do the Twins want for him? What about Duran, Varland, Coulombe? Jax? Stewart? Lopez is a sizable deal, would they mark down the prospect request to move his salary with one or two of the other RPs?

Kwan at the top of the lineup vs RHPs would be fun. *But he doesn't hit LHP. And does he go to RF or does Greene go to RF? I suppose Carpenter to RF and Green/Kwan platoon LF/DH. Or does Kwan have the chops to patrol CF? I agree with you about Sweeney. As for the platoons, Torkelson at 1B, Torres at 2B, Greene at LF,.... If Meadows and Vierling could get themselves into a modicum of their 2024 season (I'll split the difference on Meadows's 2024 given the uberglove), that would help solidify 3B/CF with the understanding that Keith is also going to factor into 3B. Meadows has a BABIP around .250 right now vs a league average around .300. Vierling has a FB% of around 50% vs a career average and a league average of 25%. So when I look at that, I think there's reason to believe both are unlucky and/or getting through bad starts to their seasons. *-Edit to Kwan: He has been competent vs LHPs in his career, so the 2025 line might be more flukey than I originally thought.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread

As bad as things have been the last couple of weeks, the Tigers have not lost much ground for the playoffs. They have lost ground for the top seed of the league, but they're still amongst those teams. -
The bullpen need is obvious. I don't think there's a debate there. I suspect the offense will pull out of it eventually. But I do wonder, the alternate universe 1st halves from Baez and McKinstry, how do the 2nd halves get forecasted there? That's a bit tricky, but maybe a bat acquisition pushes that pair into a SS platoon to minimize a market change to one defensive position rather than two. And let's also remember Dingler is in his first full MLB season, so there's that bit of concern as well. Carpenter's return should be considered a boost to the offense. But we've seen the injuries, we understand he's a LHB vs RHP only per this organization, and teams will exploit that as best they can rather than other areas in the Tiger lineup. There's chatter about Suarez for 3B. I suppose Nailor's trade to Seattle just further reveals Arizona's hand there. Nailor wouldn't have fit in Detroit with 1B/DH taken up. Suarez, if you're alright with his defense, could have a spot on the Tiger roster. But given he is perceived to be the best bat on the market and that he does come with a weak arrow in his quiver, I'm not sure he's a likely target. Or, let's consider this. Perhaps the Tigers still think Meadows and Vierling are due to perk up at the plate and that solves a few of the issues with the offense? Is that too far out of the realm of possibility?

I believe it’s been 177-27. This stretch sucks. But we’ll be able to laugh at it after the Tigers sweep the Dodgers in October.
