  1. The pitching deployment of the bulk reliever is certainly odd for a traditionalist sport. But Gregg Popovich did something so,what similar in basketball by bringing Manu Ginobili off of the bench when he was still starter quality with the Spurs. Different sport, different substitution rules. But I think the same strategy from the standpoint of using strengths at slightly untraditional times.
  2. Send some here. My driveway is patched.
  3. Oakland (Tony LaRussa?) tried a different three three three years ago. Three pitchers every third game pitched three innings. Then there was a closer and maybe an emergency pitcher. It didn't last for very long at all. Edit: @CMRivdogs beat me to it.
  4. Milwaukee, Wade Miley.
  5. Great minds think alike.
  6. 2003 Nate Cornejo. 194 2/3 IP. 46 SO. 58 BB. You kids out there, I am not lying.
  7. Was that Verlander? I remember it was definitely an issue with Bonderman.
  8. Hinch addressed this on camera and it was shown during the Sunday game. One of his points was that he can pick (assuming a good opener) the leadoff hitter that the bulk reliever will face. So, kind of what you you are alluding to with the "top of", the pitching braintrust can pick where the bulk pitcher goes in based on matchup and/or avoid a 3rd plate appearance vs a certain string of opposing batters.
  9. Agree, there are too many injuries. With all of the health regimen advances over the years, the game as is played now just counteracts all of that advancement and won't allow stamina to be any more than a 7 inning appearance.
  10. Agree. Honestly, the rest are horse****.
  11. Think about all of the pitching issues this team has had. League average run prevention is 4.42. The Tigers clock in at 4.16, 10th best in the league.
  12. This nail should be hammered and hammered and hammered.
  13. Got 3 against the Angels next. Might as well keep it going.
  14. Guessing the being in the middle of 14 straight game days has something to do with it. Plus, gotta see what McKinstry has in LF.
  15. Looks like the box score machine is carrying Jansen's batting line to both teams.
  16. At least this is a short trip back home. It seems like every trip to the Angels is midweek and the last game is always a night game.
  17. Its MonDAY, if that helps.
  18. Might as well obliterate the Jerk Sox on the way out of town.
  19. With so many young players on the team, I would imagine Hinch and company are taking some sort of angle like this. Maybe not necessarily catching the postseason this season in as much as laying the groundwork for next season. Learning some lessons, building up some camaraderie, creating that culture of expectation.
  20. Do some long division with chalk on your driveway.
  21. Somewheres amongst 1th through 18th, but that’s just a hunch.
  22. In a tangenty audible back to the topic, one of the teachers on my wife’s team has a son that plays for his high school (different district than ours). That mother/teacher volunteered for this game to cook the Thursday post practice meal. And the son/player just came down with COVID.
  23. Phew! Thank heavens. The high school season starts tonight. Or, as I like to refer to them for the clarinet player in the house, Marching Band Fridays.
  24. I thought I heard that the law up there was no school before Labor Day. But I’m also an idiot, so take that for what it’s worth.
