  1. We would all like to see him get better. But he hasn't and he's below average. That's not a good combo.
  2. You know what they need to fix with the playoffs? Under the current scenario, one of the Dodgers/Giants will be playing in a one game advance or fold game while Atlanta isn't forced into such a scenario. MLB is making a team with a 17 game lead over another team in the same league play in (basically) a one game qualifier to advance to the tournament where series are played. Not only that, but then MLB is guaranteed to have one of those teams eliminated before the NLCS because of the playoff bracket that is used. Milwaukee is the 2 seed, Atlanta is the 3 seed. This despite that fact that the 4 seed will have a better record (and we're not talking a game or two), this despite the fact that the 5 seed could have a better record than the 3 seed. Its asinine to reward seeds based on geography.
  3. But why do you assume Reyes will improve when he hasn't? That was the question.
  4. Why assume this? He's been the same player the last few years.
  5. Gross.
  6. I'd rather peddle Manning.
  7. Stuck on rookie ball stats? Looking at stats on motownsports again? I don't know what the Padres are looking for. I would think they are pretty disappointed in this season and might want to shuffle things up. They've got some bad contracts in Hosmer and Meyers and might take a cheap one with Manning to shore things up in the rotation. Its tough to know for sure what front offices are getting ready to do given the CBA status.
  8. Yes, that's possible. I don't remember how the whole bubble thing worked a couple of seasons ago. There had to have been some sort of union-management agreement, but I guess the dynamics have changed quite a bit since then that that process and agreement might not even be applicable now.
  9. The health is the primary issue for Hill in my worthless opinion. I think his defense can make up for his weak hitting. You can mitigate both concerns by not relying on him as a full time starter, which might be best for all.
  10. Not even ready until 2025? I think you might be underestimating Abrams a bit. He was above league average at the plate (105 OPS+) despite being young (-4.0 years) in AA before an on field collision ended his season.
  11. I'm not sure why you bring Biden's name into this. I'm looking solely at the NBA as a business entity. Maybe I'm wrong, but they've put into place the vaccine mandate for nonplayer personnel that will be close to players at official NBA facilities (games for sure, perhaps camps and practices as well). So they are trying to protect their money making assets (hate to call people assets like they are machinery, but let's be honest, that's what the NBA is doing). On the other hand, while they are trying to protect the players, they are not telling the players that they need to protect themselves.
  12. That'd make a great statue concept if they could figure out a way to have one of the keystone combo in mid air. Cable suspension maybe?
  13. San Diego. Manning for Abrams.
  14. Grossman starts in one of the corners, possibly splitting time like he has this season. If Greene makes the team, its as a starter, possibly spending a good deal of time in CF. Baddoo and Hill will likely make the team and be mixed & matched depending upon game to game situations. Baddoo probably gets an edge in starts over Hill because most pitching is right handed, but I don't think they will be a strict platoon based on pitching arm. I thought before that there might be room for a 5th OF, but I think it was talked through on the old place and it didn't seem feasible. 13 Ps, 13 nonPs. 2 Cs, Cabrera, starting IF, the 4 OFs mentioned above, and now the nonP roster is down to 2 spots. One of those has to be an IF (could be an IF/OF). Do they consider Haase the 5th OF in that scenario and go with 2 IFs on the bench? Do they go with an IF and an IF/OF? Either way, it bumps Cameron/Robson/Reyes out of Detroit. Not that it means they can't return to Toledo, but I think Reyes & Robson get removed from the 40 this offseason. Reyes has had his opportunities and Robson was kind of an emergency call up this season. They'll be 27 next season, which ain't exactly old, but considering Reyes' MLB resume and the fact the Robson has been considered nothing more than minor league filler by the organization, I think the writing might on the wall there, especially if those 40 man spots are needed.
  15. I think there’s something to this. What’s the old adage, don’t be the guy following The Guy, be the guy after that?
  16. Agreed. In spite of his hot streak, he still has a below average season with traditional stats. And the BABIP and K:BB suggest he’s not found something, he’s just lucky. It’s nice see him have this success, it’s nice to see Peralta’s season, it’s nice to see Schoop’s ridiculous month. But these are outliers, not things to build on. The Schoop extension makes sense for who he is as a player and the potential roster situation out of camp. Reyes can be in camp since he’s on the books and cheap. Peralta can shop his season on the market and try for a multi year deal or maybe a sizable one year deal.
  17. Schoop has cooled off since that torrid June. I remember earlier this season on another forum that I visited that there were people suggesting a 4 year extension. That seems a bit more of a reach now than it was before.
  18. Depends upon the return. I think a lot of Tiger fans were upset by the Granderson trade. I didn't like it. But that young pitcher they got in return turned out to be pretty good.
  19. They're going to have to go after arms and bats.
  20. Does anyone else look at Verlander's 2006 and Mize's 2021 and feel old?
  21. Is a pitching rotation with Wily Peralta as a full time cog really a playoff proposition? He's having a nice/lucky season that has kind of come out of nowhere.
  22. 2009 was weird. How did the Tigers make it as far as they did?
  23. https://www.congressionalbaseball.org/ I predict beanballs tonight.
  24. I don't know. NBA referees are unionized but they are mandated to be vaccinated.
  25. I can't quite understand how the NBA is mandating vaccines (or maybe testing?) for all on floor personnel, yet allowing players to make their own choices, and no one has publicly called them on the inconsistency.
