That's great enthusiasm, but I'd rather some else like Holland or some other non ongoing entity would run interference to avoid another Rozema. -

That's disappointing from Martinez. -
And there has never ever been another glimpse of that same shade of green since then. It truly was breathtaking to see it for the first time. Even as a kid, you knew it was special.

You saw Luke Duke? I met Boss Hogg (somewhat in character) at an auto show at the old play area of the Mud Hens. He was dressed as the curmudgeon but was friendly as could be.

Seeing Willie out in LF, man, if that didn’t pull at your emotions, nothing would. It was pretty interesting the spectrum of entrances. Willie. Fidrych as himself. Gibson’s pop up slide. A lot of stoic waves by some of the older players.

In LaRussa’s defense, I would think this specific incident is all on Abreu. He got hit with an 0-2. Sure, it probably hurt like heck since it was in the elbow. But it’s an 0-2 pitch in a one run game. Get a brain, moran. And I would think this is the last thing LaRussa wants right now. He’s already stated he’s not worried about seeding. There’s no way he wants to risk anyone getting hurt in an on field fracas a week out of the playoffs. Plus he was probably napping at the time. -

If they don't, so what. The fact that its been a possibility this late into the season is a success. -
Yeah, a reunion sounds fun, but I think its doubtful.

Ruh ruh, Raggy. Someone didn't roofread it.

It would seem like any team looking to sign him would go this route. Heck, is Boyd even worth a guaranteed major league deal heading into next season given his injury?
-
Ugh, one of us (or maybe both) jinxed the double digit winning streak. But ending the season on a 9 gamer wouldn't be as show offish as 10 or 14. A 9 gamer can be slid under the radar nicely and neatly without throwing too big of a target on themselves for next season.

The football field for the school district that my wife teaches at was under water yesterday. A creek alongside the visiting bleachers ran over its banks and just completely inundated the field. I kidded some people that they cancelled football (they just moved it to other school) and were holding a regatta in its place. The football field for the school district that we live in had bench areas under water. The field is kind of within a bowl of hills along the end zones and one sideline and trapped the rainfall. Enough water to where they cancelled a multi school band event tonight a full 36 hours ahead of time. Tarps would have been completely useless on either natural turf field. Crazy year of weather around here. Probably above average rainfall through end of June / beginning of July, then absolute nothingness, and then 4" inches in a few days. -

I don't ever recall anyone that I saw putting baseball cards in the spokes of their bike. I could jam a tennis ball in there and find a building & parking lot to throw the ball up against and get some fielding/throwing practice. And I remember some colored plastic click clacky things that younger kids might have on the spokes. But that's it. -
What would Boyd be getting in arbitration? He's making $6.5M this season. I'd say its bad timing for both Boyd and the Tigers, but more so for Boyd. 6 to 9 months from now is end of March to end of June. It might be in Boyd's best interest to rehab with the team he knows rather than rehabbing with a brand new organization. If he signs elsewhere, we're not talking just getting acclimated with the big league club like a normal free agent signing. This is going to take rehab throughout the organization, and maybe that unfamiliarity is something Boyd doesn't want to deal with. Boyd can be a bit of a lightning rod of discussion, especially after he was not dealt. But in the past he could be counted on for spot on the mound every 5th day, which has some value. I think its reasonable to anticipate that he wasn't going to be the ace next season, and that maybe while Mize and/or Skubal could be flirting with that, the Tigers would probably need to look outside of the organization for that type of pitcher. So, middle to end of rotation would be fine to slot him in if healthy, although going back to arbitration maybe he's a bit overpaid for that next season (which can be offset by what the kid pitchers are making & delivering if things go well). So, are we looking at a possibility of the Tigers waiving his arbitration rights, resigning him below value, and then possibly have him available to bring back into the end of the rotation sometime during the summer? In the meantime, the Tigers could fill that rotation slot with a Urena/Peralta type. Maybe Boyd simply becomes insurance against injury elsewhere on the pitching staff. They're going to need pitching in reserve throughout the season anyway. And who knows what the CBA negotiations does to affect this.

I used to have that card, but I think I traded it and the gum that came in that pack for a Neifi Perez card. -
But you have to add the final 10 wins to the 4 gamer that they are currently on. Come on, Chuck, what is this? Amateur day?

That's definitely another option, but as you say, what would be the cost? And who is it that would be available anyway? Contract info isn't available on bbref. But on cots: His defensive stats seem fine, it seems like he'd be an upgrade there. Offensively he's slashing only .201/.269/.332, but he's also at a BABIP of only .246 (vs a league average of .291). His SO% & BB% are about on par with the league average. His hard rate and his pull %s are a bit unsavory. But he's also new to the country, he's still only 26 (in a few weeks). I don't know, what are the Padres looking to do? Cronenworth has established himself at 2B. Machado is at 3B. Tatis has been tried out in the OF, but is that a serious long term deal?
