  1. Javy Baez has set one new record already...2 hours ago, 103 people online here, most ever.
  2. Being hosted by a bilionaire is a really bad look. Justin Trudeau did that once, he took his family on a vacation to a private island owned by the Aga Khan, that rarest of creatures, the "billionaire imam". Or, if you prefer, "an imam who owns racehorses". When questioned after the fact Trudeau described him as "an old family friend" which is BS, Trudeau had met him once as a child. Does the Khan have business interests in Canada? I can't think of a reason why he wouldn't. Trudeau got some very bad press about how naive he was, to think that he could get away with something like that and not look hopelessly out of touch with the everyday life of the average citizen.
  3. His last 3 offseasons including this one have been good, and this one could be great. He got Baez AND Rodriguez for not much more AAV than Correa will get by himself, and for 4 or 5 years less term. It's brilliant. There will be one more SP, and if it's Stroman he will be Executive of the Year.
  4. I'm very very happy, and no Correa is not worth double, and I don't want to be stuck with him 10 years from now.
  5. If the 6 years is true that would be fantastic, the Tigers would be finished with tne contract after his age 34 seaon.
  6. Yes, an all upper case F bomb in the middle of a football game can be effective. Not in every sentence though.
  7. I still think that the ****ing asterisks are very powerful.
  8. I like Boyd. He has his imperfections of course but I was hoping to see him back.
  9. It is somewhat disappointing that the oldest guy got 7 years, not 5 or 6.
  10. Aaaaaaand, drum roll please...2 Omicron cases in Ontario today.
  11. 13 cases of Omicron in the Netherlands today.
  12. His Mets career, one third of a season, was completely unlike his Cubs career: he got on base. His OBP was .371, he had never even done .330 for a full season before. He cut way back on his strikeouts...still more than one per game but just barely. So, who knows? He sucked big time in 2020, bounced back a little bit during his Cubs tenure in 2021, and then some kind of transformation happened with the Mets. Is it significant? Or just small sample size?
  13. Jared achieved peace in the Middle East.
  14. Yes, this again.
  15. Those lists tell an important story. Yes, Correa and Seager are nice players when they are on the field, which is not often enough.
  16. You will be getting more Sealtest ice cream.
  17. Here is another reason why travel bans are dumb: they discourage the sharing of essential data. Those countries discovered the presence of a potential variant of concern, and shared the data with the rest of the world. Their reward? A travel ban. On top of all the rest of the things that they have to deal with, including vaccine inequity, they now have this stupid travel ban. It isn't much of an incentive for the sharing of data in the future.
  18. Targeted travel bans are pointless. Canada has announced bans on the same countries; it is something that governments do in order to give the impression that they are doing something. Here is all you need to know about Omicron: a lady in Belgium has it, having just returned from Egypt and Turkey. She was nowhere near southern Africa. The travel ban might slow the arrival of the virus, but only for a couple of weeks and everybody knows it, especially the epidemiologists.
  19. Yes, if they could get Baez for 5 years I would rather have that than Correa for 10.
  20. Well, look no further for the reason why your daily cases and deaths are completely out of control. You need masking, and social distancing, in every indoor setting, with 100% compliance.
  21. That's the first time I've heard that one of the 2 main goals of vaccination was to stop masking immediately. I don't know of anywhere in the world that allowed vaccinated people to stop wearing masks.
  22. I live in a city of 770,000 people and the local health authority released a list of all the elementary schools and their vaccination rates. In affluent neighbourhoods the rates were averaging almost 80%, and in poorer neighbourhoods the average was around 50%. And, in schools specifically operated by Christian extremists, the average was around 30%.
  23. How do you change attitudes? Michigan is averaging 77 deaths per day when, based on its population, that number should be 4. I have seen many anecdotal reports about how lax the attitudes are toward masking, and I have seen many opinions expressed that masking is not necessary any more. And how do you convince people to get vaccinated, after all the persuaion that has already been attempted? Michigan's vax rate is 54%.
