  1. Malloy's OBP is .423. Make him the regular DH in Detroit next year, maybe try to hide him in left field in road games once a week.
  2. Yes, it isn't as bad as it was at the start of the year, but it is still bad. He only stopped doing it to Carpenter about a month ago.
  3. When is Holton getting his statue at Comerica?
  4. Ibanez trying to get noticed.
  5. He's selling protection.
  6. Trading Torkelson reminds me of how clever the Twins were by playing a glove man, Minky, at first base and getting rid of David Ortiz.
  7. I don't think I want 5 years of Yu Darvish unless someone really outstanding is coming along with him. Remember when he was the love child of Sandy Koufax and Pedro Martinez? Although, $15 million a year for a starter does not break the bank, so maybe you'd think about it.
  8. We have 3 bats that we like, Greene, Torkelson, and Carpenter. Those are every day players. We would like to add 3 more, Meadows, Malloy and Keith. I feel good about them, especially Malloy the RHB who puts up a .400 OBP and a .45O SLG no matter which level of the minors he plays at. And Baddoo is trying to sneak into the conversation again. So that is 7 bats we could optimistically hope for, but they can't all play at once because 5 of them are OF/DH. So that's only 6 spots filled, with a bat on the bench. Keith plays third. Baez plays short, and somebody catches. That is 8 spots. What is left over? 2B. Wenceel is the only guy who is even close, I know that the evaluators don't like him, but get him up here for the whole month of September. If he doesn't cut it, that is your offseason target, second base, by trade or FA.
  9. McKinstry has fallen off a cliff. At the end of May he had an OPS of .832, led the team with 10 steals, and was a capable, versatile defender. Maybe the best player on the team. And since May 31, his OPS numbers for June, July and August are .485, .610, and .530 and he's getting plenty of playing time. And he's 29 next year. At the start of the year I said to myself "I like Vierling and McKinstry better than Willi and Harold" because those were the roles I saw for them. I still think that Vierling will survive, he's a RH who can play third or the outfield but he isn't going to start at either. As for McKinstry he could stick around but only because he is LH at this point, and you can't carry both him and Maton.
  10. Donny you are way out of your element.
  11. It makes you think back fondly to the NHL standings in the 1960s.
  12. Still one of the all time great quotes in the old forum, someone said that Dean Green could hurt you with his glove, even at DH.
  13. I am imagining The Penguin beating you with a yardstick.
  14. Of course he immediately makes a bad play...but then hits a home run.
  15. All I watch is the highlights but Carpenter does not seem like Timmy Lupus to me. It's been pointed out that he does not make plays at the wall but other than that he seems adequate enough that he does not have to DH full time.
  16. I think Bert photoshopped that D onto his vest.
  17. That's good enough for me. I always liked Cabrera at 3rd...if you hit it right to him he made all the plays, and he had a cannon. So that plus the 1.000 OPS made him one of the top 3 all-around 3rd basemen in baseball, and gave the Tigers a huge advantage in lineup construction. If Keith could be even a slightly below average defender at 3rd, with an OPS+ of 120, I'm sold. The outfield is too crowded for him, he needs to play 3rd and play it every day.
  18. Yes I hate that too, all the styling and posing, and then the ball hits the wall and you are DOA at 2nd.
  19. Yes I just saw that replay. Here's something that was drilled into all of us when we were 14: never, ever get thrown out at third base when there are 0 out, or 2 out. Never. Especially 2 out...what are you going to do, score on a sac fly? These guys are not fundamentally sound, not well coached. And on top of that, to be thrown out at third by the left fielder? I bet that more than half of these guys play an entire career without that happening.
  20. Yeah, plus it would help to get the lingering stench of Modi out of the White House.
  21. Interesting that Micro said "since high school", it makes me picture him as a basketball player. He would have a lousy jumper because he couldn't repeat his stroke, and would not have the competitive fire to win games in the closing minutes by the sheer force of his will power. A brilliant athlete who is on the bench during the last 5 minutes.
  22. Lol I hadn't seen game 2 when I commented on game 1.
  23. There's that substantial wad of chaw in his cheek. Do Colavito tomorrow.
