  1. Was there a few years ago early Summer. Had a nice walk on the beach near Hotel del Coronado. We took a bike from the San Diego waterfront. Also pretty cool watching ships come into the base. The Padres were playing Milwaukee, I think, that week. My wife was in for a convention, they had a gathering at a nearby building on the roof. We ended up signaling each other with our phones.
  2. Detroit radio and the local jazz community lost a true character this week. Don Swindell died Monday. You would probably best know Don as the voices behind the parody songs and skits on WDFN back in the day. Later he became Asst Program Director as well as a production manager at CBS Radio in Detroit. Responsible for a lot of the "bumpers" on the Tigers and Wings broadcast. He was also heard on the Rangers broadcast in Dallas for a while. His broadcast career included stops at WLS-FM in Chicago and WJZZ in Detroit. He was extremely active as a musician. He played trumpet and harmonica. For a while he teamed up with saxophonist Larry Nozero before Norzero's death. They were part of the House Band at the Grand Hotel, as well at various venues around Detroit. After Nozero's death in the mid 2000's, Don formed his own groups and played around the area. He was one of those guys who could talk your ear off about music, radio or life in general. You'd lose touch with him and 3 or 4 years later he'd call you out of the blue and pick up the conversation. If you have an hour or so to spare, here's probably his most recent interview. This is pure Swindell
  3. Not a parody. MAGA...Make Assholes Grift Again
  4. Have you guys checked out what decent rentals are going for these days? However I agree it might be worth it to check out alternatives compared to repair and upkeep of an older, larger house.
  5. The MNF crew was having a ball with shots of his father and agent.
  6. Just remember the Mets are paying Bobby Bonilla $1.19 million a year since 2010 and will continue until 2035. It's part of the $5.9 mil he was owed when he was released in 1999.
  7. young will end up being injured a majority of the season and he'll continue to whine about the "inept brain trust"
  8. New book recommendation Network of Lies: The Epic Saga of Fox News, Donald Trump, and the Battle for American Democracy." https://www.pbs.org/video/network-of-lies-1700175700/ Here's one of his book tour interviews. the book gets into Fox's obsession with placating their audience and downplaying the truths about the "stolen election" and events around Jan 6 2021.. The book is fascinating and scary.
  9. Recommending this Bullwerk interview with Tim Alberta. Especially the Devil's bargain with evangelical church
  10. It’s only voter fraud if the other guy does it. GOP rule 563219
  11. The problem is it makes perfect sense to the “True QOP” believers
  12. This makes as much sense as a lot of my conversations with my dog
  13. He's from a bright red district. I don't expect his replacement will be much better.
  14. This looks like it's getting some national coverage... https://www.axios.com/local/richmond/2023/12/06/menorah-lighting-williamsburg-virginia-israel-hamas?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_axioslocal_richmond&stream=top In a nutshell a local synagogue approached the organizers of a local craft and music fair about holding a menorah lighting ceremony during this weekend's event. Second Sundays is held monthly on the outskirts of a shopping/restaurant area between Colonial Williamsburg and The College of William and Mary. It draws locals and tourists to the area. The organization that sponsors Second Sundays turned the request down, saying they've never had a religious event associated with fair and felt it was too political. This whole thing has drawn the usual suspects complaining about the "cancelation" which in turn has forced Colonial Williamsburg, The state arts council and a few other organizations to issue statements that they have no affiliation with Second Sundays. It's also a busy time for CW since the historic area is decorated with traditional colonial Christmas items and holds a big gathering called Grand Illumination on the first three Saturdays in December. Meanwhile the synagogue has found another date and location for their event. But as usual nobody has noticed.
  15. It's been a couple days but a great Leyland story from Sean Casey
  16. Bottom line is always $$$$. Alabama fans travel better than FSU. Alabama also gets better TV ratings
  17. Cigetti was the head coach at James Madison University. Took the team to an 11-1 record this season. He has a pretty good resume.
  18. Not to mention the several translations from the "original" Hebrew, Greek, Arabic, etc. How many edits were made to conform with the beliefs of the translators and rulers who commissioned them?
  19. Hope he enjoys being a minnow in a big pond https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/39013971/sources-indiana-finalizing-hire-james-madison-curt-cignetti
  20. I keep going back to something I heard in church nearly 60 years ago. This was from a guest minister in the Presbyterian church my family attended for several years. The speaker was preparing to address a group of ministers in the local Presbytery. He said he wanted to start his address by saying "My fellow Racketters". Seems more appropriate today many years ago.
