  1. His first full season with Detroit he used an outfielders glove at third. The biggest knock on Hojo was he couldn't handle pressure. Sparky believed and so did Davy Johnson with the Mets. The teams always seemed to have someone better coming up to take his place. https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/Howard-Johnson/
  2. Just wondering if it would be worth it to put the games on one of the commercial stations’ sub channels. I’m thinking it might be more watchable than old westerns and sitcoms. Since most of the sub channels are already on a lot of cable systems anyway. Plus you get the over the air capabilities. A bit of a throwback actually. It might also give you the possibility of streaming on a subscription basis as well
  3. I’m old enough to remember when Public Television actually showed teachers teaching. Thankfully we now have the Michigan Learning Channel
  4. Imagine the outcry if we had shot down the balloon and took out several head of cattle or worse
  5. It seems like Ohio's views are similar to Virginia. I haven't been paying real close attention these days since my drug of choice is a nice Petit Verdot, or maybe a Merlot. The GA is still stumbling along with rules on medicinal pot, heaven forbid letting the general public get a hold of it. Meanwhile vape shops are sprouting up all over. They're almost as numerous as gun shops and Colorado licensing classes. Brewhouses are starting to bloom as well, they're actually starting to allow them to sell food on premises rather than parking a food truck outside. Progress. Personally I think Virginia already has the perfect business plan already in place. ABC stores. You want something harder than beer and wine, go to the state store. The state keeps the profits (and the taxes). Do the same with pot, cut out the middleman. They subsidized winegrowers in the '80s and '90s to offset the loss of the tobacco industry. Maybe they can do the same with marijuana.
  6. And low flying helicopters near Camp Peary...Can't they give us coordinates so we can go out and moon them
  7. At least this time they bought the land, and it makes more sense than the rumors in the '90s about moving to Gary (somewhere near the airport). I always thought Arlington Heights racetrack would have made a perfect spot. I've seen fans complaining about traffic issues, can't be much worse than Soldier Field and having to park at Grant Park. There is also Metra service nearby. Work out a deal for more trains on game day. The last decent coach the Bears had was Jauron pandemic they ran him out of town
  8. Do we get a draft pick for Staley? There's still some Steeler in my DNA...hoping the guy does well
  9. I was just reading the latest JVL piece talking about how DeSantis was taking a lot of the "grifter class" away from Trump. It's a bit like the old WWF script when the younger heel turns on the older star. The grifters follow the money. The non mainline guys are actively being recruited. Would they turn their back on Trump if it costs them $$$? It's not about philosophy to these folks. The other thing JVL noticed is Trump's tone this time around compared to 2016. Trump had energy seven years ago. His current rallies have been reminiscent of rock stars who keep touring long past their prime. He's now been reduced to an angry old man who is basically a caricature of Trump2016. Basically I tend to agree with Screwball, we probably won't see Trump or Biden as the nominee. The problem is I'm afraid of what we may end up with.
  10. Cecil Cooper and Ben Ogilvie seem to be prominent. Throw in Ted Simmons and Dan Plesac https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Milwaukee_Brewers_award_winners_and_All-Stars
  11. For what the folks like MLive and Gannett pay reporters need a side gig or three
  12. His contract with Fox is $375 Mil for 10 years once he officially retires. What would he receive on a 1 year deal with an NFL team? I would imagine feelers have already been sent out to possible suiters and have come back negative.
  13. Anyone who straddles the Trump fence eventually ends up under the bus sooner or later.
  14. Almost enough to turn me into a Red Guardians (or whatever Bezos calls them, Bozos?) fan
  15. Great, now we get to put up with him sharing his wisdom on the Fox National Broadcast for the next 10 years.
  16. She's actually hoping for the VP slot
  17. Pamela Harris/ Pete Buttigieg vs Nikki Haley/Kari Lake. Then the "Founding Fathers" will rise from the grave and take us all back to the Promised Land
  18. Which is what happens when you pander to the lowest common denominator
  19. There's the potential rub for the Republican Party. 1) If Trump does not get the nomination and the 5% or so stay home that would cut into the historically slim margins the parties hold in key states (See Hilary in 2016 over the email leaks...her losses in Michigan and Pennsylvania could probably attributed to those stories) 2)Trump runs as a third party. See Ross Perot or Ralph Nader. In 1968 I think both parties saw Wallace as a game changer. Other circumstances played into the equation as well like the War in Viet Nam and the Chicago Convention riots.
  20. So basically the accused violators get to "buy their way" out of community service. Fifty hours at $10 an hour. Meanwhile in state like Texas, Florida and Tennessee women who were erroneously told they were allowed to vote are serving previous time. At the bare minimum these guys should forfeit their voting rights and lose their golf carts.
  21. The GOP a seems to wanting to walk a fine line between not wanting Trump and not wanting to piss off the 30% of the party that constitute his base. (How many members of the party in Congress still will not show contrition or backtrack on their vote Jan 6, 2021.) A lot of it depends on how many folks actually run for the nomination. If you look at a field that includes Trump, Desantis, along with Haley and Pence who are certainly sounding like candidates. Not to mention one or two others who seem to be pondering a run... Trump wins the nomination in a walk...
  22. Interesting new poll from The Bullwerk. It's behind their paywall. Basically shows Trump with approximately 30% of the vote among Republicans for the nomination. He still retains about 70% of serious Trumpers. (I realize serious Trumpers is a bit of an oxymoron) and loses in a head to head race with DeSantis 52-30. About 10% want somebody else. Basically Trump should hope for a crowded field like 2016 so others can split the vote. Especially since I think most state nominating races are winner take all.
  23. If you talk to a reporter expect everything to be on the record unless you explicitly say so in advance. It's even better to get it in writing.
  24. I see Haley has come to her senses (or maybe party consensus) and will not run. I'm on Team Elissa even though it might jeopardize the House seat for the Dems.
  25. You really need to factor a Beef&Cheddar in there somewhere. Possibly 3rd round. Too many Whoppers in the mix. (Yea, it's not the same as the others but you can't turn down the curly fries)
