That game was probably my real introduction to Lions' culture. After 10 years in Chicago and the end of the Ditka era to Dave Wannstedt, etc...only to land into the beginning of the Matt Milen , Marty Morhinweg fiasco. Just an aside note, part of my wife's job at the time was managing the radio broadcasts of the teams on the local CBS stations. In Chicago she had the Bears and Blackhawks. This was shortly after the merger of CBS Radio, Westinghouse, and Infinity Broadcasting. The Bears moved to WBBM from WMAQ (later the Score). Her new job in Detroit was similar for a few years. That final game was on Christmas Eve as I recall. The night before we hosted the Bears broadcast team for dinner. Fond memories of Tom Thayer sinking deeply into an overstuffed living room chair. The game was just icing on the cake. Maybe we were forewarned when the weekend we made an impromptu visit to Detroit was the same weekend Bobby Ross resigned and the Streeterville (?) neighborhood in Chicago had a massive power outage..

They keep forgetting that the idea of Christmas started out as a pagan celebration before being co-opted by corporate christians...

I have a friend who made the move from the DC area to Santa Fe, NM and loves it there. I think her original intent was Colorado. She lived in the Denver area about 25 or so years ago and loved it. Her former employer had an office there and she lobbied for a permanent transfer before she decided on early retirement. I think she looked at prices around Colorado Springs and Boulder.(She was also on a tiny house kick around then) Don't rule out Va. The summers aren't much worse than NJ and we get a bit less snow east of the Piedmont region. The Williamsburg area is becoming popular for retirees. Decent medical care, especially with Richmond only about an hour away. There are enough "cultural activities" to keep you interested. Plus Colonial Williamsburg and the rest of the Triangle area. Once again about an hour to Richmond and pretty much the same to Va Beach/Norfolk for decent regional airports.

A while back I mentioned a planned F-I Track/Housing development in Howell. It looks like it's fallen thru. Some right of way issues, including a gas pipeline on the property.

My original was total budget. I'll allow $150 mil total player budget.

I'll go with 133 Mil, especially since we still have MC on the roster. Keep in mind with trades and free agents it takes two to tango. So you need to have tradable commodities and Free Agents willing to commit to DET after the last several years. I think rebuilding this team is a bit like trying to rehab an old house. (I've been watching too much HGTV lately). Need to take it down to the studs and rewire before adding drywall and nice flooring.

Being serious and curious. You've just been named grand poobah of the Tigers. Given the current roster and say a $!00 mil budget. What tangible and realistic moves would you make? It's easy to talk a big game put you money where your fingers are.

I'm looking at the QB situation this way. The #1 job belongs to Goff for the remainder of this season and probably next year. My big question is who is the backup? Nate Sudfeld, He's played in 5 games in 4 years...he's no Earl Morrall, hell he's not even Don Strock....#3. There is no one listed on the roster. I'm sure things will change next year, but looking at the injury situation around the league (San Francisco, LA Rams, I'd like someone who can step in and play somewhat well. I'd love to see a Taylor Heinike type step into the backup role. Draft a project who shows NFL possibilities and let him learn.

This is basically where I stand. I'm perfectly happy with Goff under the current schemes. I saw recently where when the had their first meeting Campbell told Goff to stop trying to be Mr Perfect and be Jeff Goff. I thing that may be the reasoning behind the transformation from last year. I'm also not a big fan of drafting a QB and expecting him to immediately. Give him a season or so to get acclimated. Starting immediately has worked for college QBs, but its still a steep learning curve unless almost all the pieces are in place.

I've done the whole menu, COVID, Flu, Shingles.... But then I'm 70 from a family with a history of heart disease, diabetes, etc. The fact that I'm being treated for a "life defining" lung disease (diagnosed in 2021), I make it a point to get the shots.

No cats, but a couple of historical fiction novels you might check out. Mary Doria Russell, probably best known for her science fiction novel The Sparrow (very good read, raises some interesting philosophical religious theories). I enjoyed her Tombstone novels Doc and Epitaph which focus on the Earp brothers and Doc Holiday. A couple more Russell "historical" novels; The Women of Copper Country, is focused on the labor issues around the mining industry in Calumet Michigan in 1913. A Thread of Grace is probably my favorite of her works. 1943 shortly after Italy broke from Germany in WWII, a group of Jewish refugees trying to escape across the Alps for a chance of safety. The books is based on the underground efforts by Italian citizens who saved the lives of 43,000 Jews near the end of the war. If you're into historical espionage novels check out the works of Noel Hynd. I've read his Berlin series and enjoyed it. He's also written a couple of baseball related books based on the Giants and Dodgers during their final years in NY

Another one of my peeves. "Thank you for your service" to random people in uniform at airports, malls, etc. It's been said so often that it's become trite. I've also been told by many "higher ups" that many who served are uncomfortable about being thanked for what they feel was their duty. They would prefer a short conversation about where they served or what their duties were. Then I think a simple thank you might suffice.

I realize the NA is traditional at sporting events and other events, but I feel along the way it just becomes rote and really doesn't mean as much as it should. We're just going thru the motions. Like saying The Lord's Prayer or repeating the Apostles' Creed or such at church. We're mouthing words without thinking about meanings.

There needs to be an Independent Caucus... Sinema, Romney, King, Manchin, Murkowski, Sanders(?). Could be interesting.
