  1. What if Obama had actually showed some force against future MAGAs that cartooned him as a monkey or even as a Muslim. Interestingly enough the two most maligned presidents in my lifetime were better examples of what I was taught in my Presbyterian Sunday School than what I see coming out of so called religious institutions like Liberty U and Turning Point
  2. I get what you’re talking about to a point but the CBS of today is not the CBS of 50 years ago or even 25. And the Ellisons of today are not the Paleys of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.. Go back and watch Ed Murrow’s RTNDA Speech or look at Clooney’s Good Night and Good News. Owners then were still concerned about advertising dollars and viewship but there was still the wall between news and editorial content. That wall fell when cable and Fox News came into being. And business owners stopped caring about the public good and more about profit and stock prices
  3. Just like Midas in reverse. Everything he gets his sticky little fingers on dies..
  4. Technically Pittsburgh is my home city. We lived outside McKeesport about 30 miles away until I was 12. Really hadn't been back to spend much time there with the eXception of visiting a few relatives until last year. My wife had a conference, I got to explore.
  5. Two good museums. Especially the Heinz. If you are looking for other options, head toward the Natural History Museum, not far from the Pitt campus. Near there, a few blocks away is the left field wall from Forbes Field. I believe Home plate is inside the Law School. I would also recommend Point State Park. The museum there is interesting. This was the site of the fort during the French and Indian war. Some nice views of the football stadium there as well
  6. May need to stock up on more popcorn

  13. How much coke have they swept under the carpets in the last 8 months in the White House? Probably the reason they had to destroy the East Wing

  16. Better than living next to an overt Trumper who litters his/her yard with signs
  17. Especially if the relative was much older than you. A lot of my dad’s cousins were Uncle Jim or Aunt Helen or whatever. It was a sign of respect. Figuring it out came much later in lives as we grew.
  18. RIP the free press

  21. More wisdom from from JVL Donald Trump campaigned against unity. His entire 2024 run was about “retribution”—his word. His explicit promise was to wage war against the “vermin” and “enemy within” who are “poisoning the blood.” He promised prosecutions and mass deportations. He has said, many times, how much he “hates” half of America. Voting for Donald Trump and then complaining about the lack of unity is like going to the beach and bitching about the sand. These people voted for the guy promising disunity and a war of all against all. And now that they’ve gotten it, they don’t like it? I can see three possible explanations for these comments: They didn’t realize what they were voting for with Trump. They somehow missed all of the stuff he said about retribution. They are genuinely surprised. They heard what Trump said during the campaign, but didn’t understand it or didn’t believe it. And now that they’re seeing retribution in practice, they don’t like it. They understood Trump. They like what he’s doing. But they don’t like the fact that some people are objecting to it. They say they want unity, but what they mean is that they don’t want dissent. I have my own suspicions, but which do you think it is?
  22. JV Last with a great idea re The Ballroom I don’t think that Democrats need to campaign on restoring the East Wing. But what a Democratic candidate might say, if asked about his plans for the Trump Ballroom, is something like this: A lot of people are very angry about Trump’s ballroom and think it was paid for by friends of Jeffrey Epstein. They think it’s an outrage that Trump spent hundreds of millions of dollars on it when he couldn’t even fund the government. Many people say that you could actually makemoney by tearing it down and auctioning off the pieces. We’re going to look into this very strongly and when we come to a decision, it’s going to be one that you like. Then, the minute after a Democratic president is sworn in, he signs the order to restore the East Wing. And then he moves on to the next thing. https://www.thebulwark.com/p/the-lies-voters-tell-themselves-issues?utm_source=substack&utm_campaign=posts-open-in-app&utm_medium=email&r=45wcm&triedRedirect=true
