The bill would hobble the executive branch’s ability to make immigration policy, whether a Democrat or Republican is in the White House. The bill guarantees states standing to sue the federal government over a breathtakingly wide array of immigration-related actions ranging from detention and visa policy to detention and release decisions in individual immigration cases. Federal agencies, under Democrat or Republican control, would face litigation at every turn from states governed by the opposing political party. Administrations would likely stop even trying to issue new immigration policies when faced with endless litigation over every single memo and regulation. https://www.nilc.org/articles/nilc-opposes-the-h-r-29-the-laken-riley-act/?utm_source=chatgpt.com The bill is a recipe for chaos in the federal courts – chaos the Constitution intended to avoid. The doctrine of “standing” is a constitutional doctrine (based on Article III’s requirement that a case or controversy exist for the federal courts to intervene) that guarantees courts are not wasting their time on disputes where there is no potential harm for the courts to ameliorate. Yet the Laken Riley Act provides blanket standing regardless of whether a state has any interest whatsoever in the case or policy being challenged. Without the ability to dismiss for lack of standing, the federal courts would immediately be drowning in immigration lawsuits. https://www.nilc.org/articles/nilc-opposes-the-h-r-29-the-laken-riley-act/?utm_source=chatgpt.com

Jefferson was right. The Constitution should be revisited every 15 years or so. That said I fear that if we did it today it would be a completely different document than what the founders supposedly wanted.

I'm holding out for each province to get the prerequisite 2 senators and proportionate representatives. It may backfire, but it would be fun watching the French Quebec lobby at work. More entertaining than MAGAs

I wonder if Trump's negotiating to sell Alaska back to Russia.

This is what you wrote and I quoted you on that statement. Stop trying to move the goalposts

This is brilliant.

So if we make Canada and Greenland states, we also need to make Puerto Rico and Washington DC official as well. How many Electorial votes would Canada get? What about Greenland? Shouldn't we also make individual provinces states as well, instead of one big country? Give DC and Puerto Rico the Senate representation they deserve along with all the other territories The US claims. The same with Panama, since the Musk/Trump Administration seems to want it. Make Democracy Work Again

I'd say leak it to a major outlet, but they've already capitulated

If Biden or any Democrat had made these statements, there would be hearings into their mental competency

Algorithms won't let me like. But this is the correct answer

I tend to itch a lot with a gas furnace. Maybe he needs a decent humidifier

Um...you said maybe have a primary for the party out of office. I gave you a history lesson. There will be no test, I'm giving you a D- anyway for comprehension

And basically that's what happened this past election. And you beefed about it a lot. Political Parties were not exactly in the Founders' plans. Washington hated them. They basically came about after a beef between Jefferson and Hamilton while they were in Washington's Cabinet. Then later expanded to the election of Adams and his squabbles with Jefferson (and others). The President was originally ment to be chosen by a handful of men chosen as representatives from the states. Madison and company didn't trust handing the highest office to the rabble.

Week Eighteen: Minnesota Vikings (14-2) @ Detroit Lions (14-2)

And that wastes what another second or so by the time they look at the clock, check the snap and throw the flag. It's 2025 not 1975, tie the goalpost or buzzer to the time lock to the snap lock. There's enough other stuff going on during the play to keep the refs occupied -
I thought I'd start something new. One of my current interests is the road leading up the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The events and thoughts of the leaders of that time that lead to the decision to meet in Philadelphia in 1776. 1774 was a pivotal year with the events in Boston and the Colonies reaction to England's reaction the dumping of tea in the Boston Harbor (among other events). Anyway, here goes https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Franklin/01-21-02-0238

See above (my last post). It currently seems that Republican candidates for most state and federal offices are now chosen by one guy. The primaries are just for show
-
But then your guy Trump wouldn't have even made it down the escalator in 2015. I old enough to remember when the parties nominees were mostly chosen by back room deals. See 1968, Hubert Humphrey

Given the timing of Biden's decision to drop out, a Democtatic Party primary would have probably been a cluster ****. An alternative could have been a meeting of the Party's Central Committee to choose a nominee. That decision would have created similar criticism. The best possible solution was gone when Biden decided to run for re-election. Of course, this is all hindsight.

Regarding the delayed or not called delay of game penalties. I saw a couple of stories about solutions. My favorite is wire the goalposts to light up when time expires on the play clock. That way the refs don't have to constantly keep one eye on the snap and the other on the clock. Either that or sound the horn when the P-C expires.
