Homage to a Government, Philip Larkin Next year we are to bring all the soldiers home For lack of money, and it is all right. Places they guarded, or kept orderly, Must guard themselves, and keep themselves orderly We want the money for ourselves at home Instead of working. And this is all right. It's hard to say who wanted it to happen, But now it's been decided nobody minds. The places are a long way off, not here, Which is all right, and from what we hear The soldiers there only made trouble happen. Next year we shall be easier in our minds. Next year we shall be living in a country That brought its soldiers home for lack of money. The statues will be standing in the same Tree-muffled squares, and look nearly the same. Our children will not know it's a different country. All we can hope to leave them now is money.

Having seen these folks in action, this one hurts. Say goodbye to your local libraries, any local museums that may get a modicum of Federal funding. As the Regime continues to attempt to rewrite history when they can't even define words such as WOKE and DEA https://www.commercialappeal.com/story/news/2025/03/17/trump-cuts-library-funding-institute/82495263007/

At least they didn't take down any more statues of Confederate Generals

On March 19, 2003, the United States, along with coalition forces primarily from the United Kingdom, initiates war on Iraq. Just after explosions began to rock Baghdad, Iraq’s capital, U.S. President George W. Bush announced in a televised address, “At this hour, American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people and to defend the world from grave danger.” President Bush and his advisors built much of their case for war on the specious claim that Iraq, under dictator Saddam Hussein, possessed or was in the process of building weapons of mass destruction.

I guess the concert was originally scheduled for the Kennedy Center but was canceled because of MUMP's executive order against diversity. Here's the CBS story https://www.cbsnews.com/news/playing-in-harmony-despite-presidents-dei-executive-order-60-minutes/ I've been wondering how this affects private organizations like Sphinx, which has a 20 plus year relationship with the Detroit and Ann Arbor area in promoting diversity within orchestras with its annual competition and concerts. https://www.sphinxmusic.org I guess Trumpers don't like to see people of color performing in orchestras they never go to see. (Besides all they want to hear is Sousa Marches anyway) not music like this Edit, I admit the Concert Band is a fairly white group, the composer Omar Thomas is not. It's a great piece, unfortunately I "retired" from the Farmington Band before I had a chance to perform this

Leaving tomorrow for a cruise, we sail out of Fort Lauderdale Saturday AM. If you don't hear from me in about 3 weeks....

Tim Kaine has been fairly vocal in his opposition to the MUMP regime. Warner has been fairly quiet but did vote against the measures. I have a feeling he prefers to work behind the scenes. Duckworth has been a bit low-key lately as well.

A Musk/Trump speciality. In other words Systems Normal All Farked Up

We've been on a BBC/PBS Masterpiece kick lately. Currently rewatching Foyles War. Basically a police drama set in WWII. It holds up well, and especially cool watching younger versions of actors who show up later with their own "Masterpiece/BBC Dramas" Also rewatching Wolf Hall, based on the Hilary Mantel novels about Thomas Cromwell and Henry VII. Getting caught up because The third novel "The Mirror and the Light" is coming to PBS this fall. Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis are fantastic as Cromwell and King Henry.

Maybe this belongs in the history thread, I'm sticking it here. With the current regime's campaign against DEI and what appears to be the desire to erase Black History, this story may once again disappear from our history. One of those things they never taught us in public school. https://cardinalnews.org/2025/03/18/the-other-lafayette-an-enslaved-man-who-spied-for-the-french-general-adopted-his-surname-but-then-was-denied-his-promised-freedom/?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=The other Lafayette was an enslaved man who spied for the French general&utm_campaign=Cardinal 250%2C March 18%2C 2025 James Lafayette is one of the "newer" Nation Builders at Colonial Williamsburg. These are actor historians who tell their story. Fortunately CW is a private foundation with no federal funding. But knowing MAGA, they still complain it's too "woke".

Has anyone read Jeff Passan's The Arm? It was on the A app's cheap book list this morning. I figured for $5 it was worth a try.

These 20 something ashats doing Elon and Trump's bidding expect people to text Social Security? It's already hard enough to get them on the phone. Between this and the ignoring of the courts, illegal deportations and dissing Republican appointed judges ...... I'd continue but have a cruise next week and don't want to run afoul of the Brown Shirts, yet

Virginia counties have been raising extralegal “independent companies” as Patriots take control of the militia away from the royal government. Yesterday, Washington reviewed another of the companies he leads, the Prince William Independent Company, in Dumfries. Washington will accept all five commands, but will have to resign them when he accepts a more senior command in the coming months.

Justfrom what I'm seeing today the Regime (I refuse to call it an administration) will keep on doing what they're doing regarding immigrants, legal or otherwise, until stopped by the Supreme Court. There's a slim chance they'll rule against him. Then he may continue to defy any opposition because he thinks he can.
