  1. Good catch, actually there were five. J Adams, his son JQ Adams, Martin Van Buren, Andrew Johnson, Trump. Wilson and Nixon weren't around to see their successor sworn in for other reasons. https://www.whitehousehistory.org/notably-absent-presidential-no-shows-on-inauguration-day#:~:text=Five outgoing presidents – John Adams, not participate for other reasons.
  2. Maybe not a couple of centuries, Jefferson and Adams could be quite brutal. 60-70 years maybe?
  3. I don't know. Did he ever serve as hall monitor in grade school?
  4. At least one member of the former Grand Old Party still has some class...
  5. Just thinking, I would love to watch a JD Vance-Pete Buttigieg debate. He's not high on my list, I would prefer a governor or someone with executive office experience
  6. By the way, Donald...
  7. Let's take it two steps farther. Sotomayor resigns (she's had some health issues) Biden names Harris as her replacement.... Now what? It would probably be 1) a stretch to get Harris thru the Senate quickly enough. 2) Trumpublicans would probably also stonewall whomever Biden picks as Harris' replacement. It's going to be bad enough with Harris serving as President of the Senate on Jan 6, 2025 when it comes time to certify the election.
  8. To quote that great philosopher Kenny Rodgers You gotta know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold em Now hit Trump hard on his age and cognitive capacity. He’s the real Hannibal Lector
  9. I'm about to take up the game after 30 plus years. I only dabbed with it then. Picked up a set of "Senior" clubs. Just waiting until the "Feels like" temps drop below 105 before hitting the driving range.
  10. I read a bit of what Vance was referring to was those who immigrated from what was considered Appalachian regions to areas outside the region for work. Much like the migration to Detroit when Henry Ford started mass manufacturing the automobile. In Western Pa, it was the steel mills up until the mid 60s or so ( whenever US Steel started moving employees to Gary, Ind.). They still brought their Appalachian beliefs with them. It's more about attitude than location.
  11. Some good points....thread..
  12. My problem with RW Christians is they want everyone to follow "RW Christian" beliefs. Falwell, Robertson, the slew of TV Evangelists, etc. I grew up as a "Back Pew" Presbyterian, spent time in the Church of the Brethren, dipped my toes in the pool of a MEGA Church. Too much politics inside the church, and too much pressure to get those outside the church to follow their believes. When "ministers' like Robertson and Falwell started putting politics ahead of their faith, IMO, that's where they lose me What happened to "Give to Caesar" and "When you pray, go into your inner room, shut the door and pray to your father in private"?
  13. The one thing that bothered me about the book was near the beginning. He talked about working in a machine shop or someplace similar where they hired a guy who barely worked (there may have been dugs involved as well). Basically there are people like that everywhere. Now he's ranting about Latinos taking white people's jobs. If the white guy didn't want to work and the brown guy does, how is that the current president's or problem.
  14. And some of us thought middle aged women doing the Macarena was stupid looking way back in ‘96 edited to get correct year. I know it was Chicago and Clinton
  15. Six days since the shooting and still no medical or mental update on the former president's condition. We've never had a true update on his medical status other than the "he's the healthiest human alive from Dr Ronnie Feelgood.
