Where i work here in Michigan my company is preparing for the mandatory masks for the not vaccinated rule to potentially go in affect next month. So the 2 HR ladies were going over the memo to be posted with about 20 salaried employees. As they were going over the memo they referred to Whitmer as Governor Whitless, and suggested she is going beyond the federal regulations because she expects to lose reelection and wants to get appointed to the Biden cabinet. I said "maybe she is trying to save lives?" From there the whole thing turned into a shouting match and the meeting was cut short. The Trumpies were shouting "the good states aren't doing this !" And calling Whitmer a political pawn of the president. All because they have to wear a mask for a while. It's embarrassing.

Under nearly any model if the the organization drafts and develops well they can sustain winning and move from one core to another without going through a painful rebuild that takes 3-5 years. Since the Tigers have been horrible at drafting and developing since Jim Campbell retired they have had to go through many multi year periods of suckage. Put a clown like Randy Smith in charge of the rebuild and it can take 10.

Wilson is 17 and Olave is 22. Wilson is the top ranked WR.

With the release of Wells and Williams, Holmes and co. first free agent and trade class sure is a dud. There are few long term ramifications but you'd not like to see a class that could be confused with a Bob Quinn off season. Offense - At WR Perriman didn't even make through camp and Williams gets injured and doesn't contribute at all. At TE the Lions first choice retired before camp so they scrambled to sign Wells who only lasted half the season. Jamaal Williams has been pretty good when in the line up. And Goff seems to be a grossly over paid back up level QB. Defense - In the secondary Marlowe isn't contributing much and Dunbar strangely didn't report. So they signed Elder who didn't make the team. Anzalone has been solid at LB. Brockers, who they traded for, doesn't seem to be doing much. Not promising but aside from Goff they were mostly one year deals.

Great glove and a non zero at the plate. I like it too. Plus his number one comp is Les Moss, so his is a future manager too.

Yea, 80/1000 comes out to about 5 catches for 60 yards a game. He doesn't have games where he goes off.

This was a bad 5 win team when healthy and they have been devastated by injuries. The only Quinn first or second round picks that have been playing, from the last 5 drafts, are Hock and Swift. And they have the most dead money in the league this year. Next year they will have some money to bring in free agents, 3 top draft picks, plus they will be getting key healthy players back. Even with Goff they could be around a 500 team.
-
They are cutting Flowers post June 1 and either cutting Vitai or restructuring him. After that they should have about 55 million to spend. Enough to bring in WR and a corner.
-
If Houston trades Watson this year, whatever team he goes to will be that much improved and thus the picks Houston would be getting in return will be worse. It makes more sense for them to wait until the off season and deal him.

Michigan has talent. Both lines are legit with a few NFL players on them. Ross is an all conference level LB'er, and they have speed at WR'er in Johnson, Wilson and Baldwin. They just again have an average QB and potential exploitable weakness somewhere else. If the corners don't get burned and McNamara doesn't have a John O'Korn level game they will win.

What i think may happen is the Lions will have the first pick and Willis and whomever else rises will probably looked at as the fifth or sixth overall pick. So the Lions can overdraft a QB at one, or try to trade down, get some extra picks and still get they guy they want. It's either that or taking a QB at 26 that the entire league has passed on. I know Lamar Jackson and a few others have dropped and succeeded but the hit rate on QB's later in the first is lower obviously.

I was diagnosed when I turned 50. I was 5'9 and 190 lbs and in about 6 weeks I dropped 35 lbs. No family history, not obese, very active physically and I ate fairly healthy. No idea how I can down with it. It's under control now but it is a nasty disease if unchecked. The excess glucose will eventually cause major problems.

That may be the play, but they if they wait then in year 3 of their regime they are rolling out a rookie QB who may or may not succeed. That is a lot of risk for a new GM to assume. Unless they want to give Goff another chance with a healthy line and some legit WR's. And then in the 2023 draft who knows where they will be picking and if they can trade up to get a top QB if he fails. Goff after this year will have 40 million in guaranteed money still on his contract so I'm sure they don't want to cut him.

There are a few players that have been around a few years that if they are still on the team opening day 2022 it should be considered a bad sign. One of them is Grayson Greiner. He can not hit, at all. Niko Goodrum and Buck Farmer are a couple others.
-
Goff is playing without the best two players on offense, both offensive lineman. Plus they are breaking a rookie at LT who is struggling. His top 2 receivers are also out and what is left at the WR group is waiver wire fodder. Plus it's a new offense for him and a new offensive coordinator for the entire team. He appears to be a QB who just can not function if he doesn't have pieces around him. Goff is probably a career back up from here on out but this is a horrible situation for any QB. My main criticism of the off season was that they didn't bring in enough at WR to give Goff someone to throw to so they could properly evaluate him. Although most of the FO came from the Rams so they should have known what they were getting. If they have already given up on him then acquiring him has to be considered a mistake, given that there were other offers out there that didn't include taking on a QB with 100 million left on his contract. Plus they passed on Fields and Jones at 7. When teams don't have a QB they get desperate and the Lions will turn over as many leaves as it takes this off season to find one. Punting the QB situation another year to wait for a better draft seems about as much of a long shot as acquiring Watson. Especially since they will certainly expect to improve and not be one of the worst 2-3 teams in the league again.
-
They wait another year for a QB they are definitely writing off 2022. And if they improve just a little next year they will be picking out of the top 5. I would be against taking a guy later in the draft that they obviously don't believe in, and then having to give him a couple years. DeShaun Watson will be available and the Lions would probably have the best set of draft picks to offer the Texans. Or you wait another year No easy answers there.

Some would argue that you shouldn't invest big in free agency if you are not going to field an expected playoff team. I think they will bring in at least one big name free agent, it's just after that where it becomes unclear. For the rotation will they spend 15-20 million on someone like Robbie Ray? Or go cheaper on another round of rehab projects? Even if they spend like you suggest they aren't adding anything to the bullpen. And will they trade a prospect or two this year to add bullpen arm? My sense is they will go after a big time SS and after that it will be similar to the last couple of off seasons.
-
Unless the Tigers spend a lot of money on 3-4 free agents, they are going to open the season with some serious holes on the team. And that is with Tork and Green making the team. I don't know if they will spend or begin trading prospects to fill SS, 2 SP's, C and some bullpen help. We are counting on Manning to fill a spot in the rotation and that is no certainty either. I am sure they will spend some and then hope to find lower priced players to fill out the rest of them team, but it seems like a long shot to fill all of the holes enough to build an expected playoff team. In 2023 the picture looks a lot better with MIggy coming off the books, Turnbull coming back, and the most recent draft class being closer to the bigs.
-
I feel confident they will spend big on a position player, most likely a SS. I am less confident on what quality of SP they will bring in. My guess is it will be more of the mid tier SP, like a Jake Odorizzi. I don't think they will be dumpster diving like they have the last couple of years; Matt Moore, Urena, Teheran, etc.

Lions at Packers - 9/20/21 - Monday Night Football
Stanley70 replied to RedRamage's topic in Detroit Lions
Monday night was a perfect microcosm of the good and bad with Goff. He can look on point and someone you can win with for a half and then he's fumbling and throwing ugly interceptions. Personally i think they will move on after this season. Hopefully he has some trade value still left. -
I wore jean shorts to my nieces' softball game a year or two ago and was informed to not do that again. "Jorts" are out i guess.
