  1. Philly looks like they are in cap hell after this super bowl run. They have over 27M in dead cap and are only 2M under right now. And that is with Hargrave, Bradberry, Kelce, and Brandon Graham unsigned for next year. Plus Hurts will be a FA after this year and may want a contract done this offseason. That is what happens when you manipulate the salary cap numbers and push contracts out, eventually it comes due.
  2. The Lions are as good as anybody on offense. On defense they have multiple needs, and need a difference maker IMO. Like a Chris Jones, Jalen Ramsey, etc. While I also think they will probably not make a big splash in free agency or trade, you can make a case that if they did and then hit on a few day 1 and day 2 picks they could have a top defense as well.
  3. I will guess that they take an IOL before the end of day 2 of the draft. Jackson's contact is up next year, they can't pay them all.
  4. Spotrac has Brown's estimated contract at 3 years 10M a year. That seems a little high to me though.
  5. They just drafted Paschel, and he pretty much plays the same position. Plus Romeo, Houston and Harris. Not saying they couldn't make it work, but that would be quite a few resources at one position when when they have so many other needs on defense.
  6. Goff is on the books for 30M next year. Do they restructure him to to create some cap room? If they do that kinds of ties them to him for a couple extra years. The problem i see with Goff is he must have a decent line and weapons to throw to. And with him making 30M a year it will be difficult to hang on the current OL, ARSB, and others when their contracts expire. Unless of course Holmes can keep hitting on multiple draft picks.
  7. And Cam Collier at 17. I'm sure Avila and Co. went with Jung because he was closer to the majors. Collier was a HS guy and Jung was 21 when drafted. Collier was rated above Jung prior to the draft, although it was fairly close. Just another example IMO of them passing on a higher ceiling guy because they didn't want to wait. Although giver their track record of of developing hitters they probably factored that in.
  8. According to Sam Webb Harbaugh is telling recruits he is coming back. He just met with Nykolas Harbor this past week, the #6 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. He needed the university to step up on a few things and they are going to. I believe his threatening to leave will ultimately help the Wolverines in the long run. Apparently Warde didn't want to compete with other programs on NIL because he didn't think it was sustainable.
  9. All of this boils down to that the Tigers will not be successful until they start drafting, signing and developing young talent. The Tigers have lagged behind most other clubs for a very long time. And somehow have seemingly gotten worse in the last few years. Their track record on the international front is among the worst in baseball in the last decade (and before that). And all of Avila's recent signings are stagnating currently as well. If it wasn't for top ten picks they would have the no blue chip prospects at all. It is probably more development than talent identification, but they are bad at both. This is where Harris will make the biggest difference IMO.
  10. If they hang on to Okwara and don't structure Goff they should have enough left to bring back of few of their own free agents. Like Chark, Elliot, Williams, Buggs and Cominsky. Brown and Anzalone are probably goners. If they do cut Romeo and restructure Goff the could potentially sign a decent free agent or land someone in a trade. I think Stephen Gilmore from Indy might be a decent CB to go after.

  12. There are a couple of questions regarding who they may pick in the first round. Will they consider a DE? They have Hutch obviously at WDE, and Paschal and Cominsky at SDE. And Houston at Edge, so they do not have a need. I have seen a couple of mocks where Wilson or Murphy go to Detroit. Anderson seems like a longshot and he plays Hutch's position anyway. So I don't believe they will take one, seems like an opportunity to trade down. QB. I still think they will consider taking one, but it is becoming a longshot that they like a QB enough to take one at 6, and that QB actually lasts that long. Having a QB that is good and not making 30 million a year is a huge advantage salary cap wise, plus they could probably get some picks for Goff if they traded him. Will they consider a lower impact position at either 6 or 18? Like Robinson or any ILB that may be there at 18? Unless they LOVE Robinson and he lasts to 18 they are looking at CB or DL at both picks.
  13. I'm starting to like Kerby Joseph. Colton Pouncy @colton_pouncy Kerby Joseph on Aaron Rodgers: "If that's his last pass, I'm saving that ball and I'm sending it to him so he can sign it. If he don't sign it, I'll understand. But I doubt he's gonna retire. He's probably gonna try to come back, and if he comes back, more plays for me." 1:10 AM · Jan 9, 2023
  14. Seems like a necessity trade to me. These guys are unlikely to ever become everyday regulars on good teams. But the Tigers needed to fill a couple of holes and they could become nice role players, and if they're lucky a little better than that. Ideally teams in the Tigers situation should aim for higher ceiling guys that are maybe a couple years away. Malloy and now Maton have OBP skills that will be refreshing at least.
  15. Alim can play the 3. At Michigan last year when they had Ojabo and Hutch they asked the Dt's to push the pocket and let the edge guys go to work. Those two would really clog up the middle running downs. And they they can sub in Paschel on third and long to rush from the inside. Or Levi if his back ever heals. I'd rather they draft Carter or Bresee, but adding a nose could work.
  16. I am not sure what else Harris is supposed to do. This team has ZERO building blocks in place that are healthy and performing in the bigs. They have a couple who look like they could be, but aren't sure things yet. Between young pitching injuries and almost all of the hitters having down seasons it's impossible to know what to expect next year. How many of the young starters are going to come back and be average or better? Do we have any front of the rotation guys? Why did all of the hitters underperform last year? Were they Coolbaughed? Was it the cavernous stadium? I expect a number of those questions to be answered this year and for Harris to be much more active next offseason.
  17. Dave Stewart traded Dansby Swanson before he made the majors. Of course Dave Stewart was comically unprepared to be a gm.
  18. When they say it's not about the money, it's about the money. Everything i have heard it is that he is from a tough economic situation and NIL was a huge factor.
  19. Michigan has a 5 star QB Jaden Smith in the 2024 class they have been in the lead for some time. He just moved his commit date out a month, which is not good. The longer a recruit is favoring you but doesn't commit is a bad sign. Michigan is supposedly making headway on NIL, but will probably never reach the levels of the $ec and O$U.
  20. Yea, I am basically the same age. There are 2 periods where I felt truly optimistic. The early 90's Eric Kramer and Barry Sanders Lions. They had a decent defense with Speilman and Blades also. But they spent the majority of that era looking for a QB. Poor drafting finally weakened the team until Bobby Ross completely blew it up. Then the mid 2010's with Stafford and Suh. They had Calvin Johnson at his peak and a top ten defense. They got screwed out of a playoff win in Dallas and then again poor drafting and cap management ended that optimism. For 2 years or so this team was very good and should have done better in the playoffs. It finally feels like we have a front office that can draft and sustain a run of winning. I hope they solve the QB situation sooner rather than later however.
  21. Keith Law didn't like the Benintendi deal. Too much for a guy coming off a season with less than 10 homers and steals. And that season was his best in a few years. He also called him an average defender.
  22. If Goff were a starting pitcher he would have 3-4 games in a row where he gets knocked around and lasts an inning and a third. And then has 5-6 games where he pitches great. He is definitely an accurate QB. Given time and talent at the WR position he can hit shots to all parts of the field, although his arm strength is average. Put pressure on him, with his lack of mobility, he can't function and turns into checkdown Charlie. I think the Lions will make an effort to bring in a QB, but if they can't find the right one at the right price they will be content to move forward with Goff.
  23. Yea, it's like Tom Kennedy guaranteeing a Lions win.
