  1. DD was NOT fired because he traded Price. Or anyone.
  2. This. Goff will be kept, not traded. Drafted QB can be developed behind Goff for a year or so, rather than tossed directly into the fire. When drafted QB is ready (hopefully at some point in his draft year) and Goff lays a stinker... in comes drafted QB.
  3. Let's start with Miggy.
  4. It's too early to make judgement calls on last year's 3rd rounders... But then.... the clock does appear to be ticking... and against a lot of Holmes' picks...
  5. Well... He was bent over head to the ground and... shook his head back and forth a few times... like he was trying to clear his head from having its bell rung... I don't know if that means anything... it might mean squat; and he came back concussive-negative IIRC.... But that's just what I'm seeing and why they might have been overcautious... especially after Tua... Chalk this up to... After Tua.
  6. Even if it is fully guaranteed, as Ed pointed out. Additionally: 1) I don't care about the money. 2) $7 mill is a pittance in MLB terms... as chas points out. 3) I firmly believe that any commitment to Candy in no way, shape, or form, abrogates further salary commitments to improve this team. Not in general, and not specifically to the IF (Correa or otherwise...).
  7. IMO: We can do both. The Tigers can offer arbitration if they believe he is redeemable and has some kind of future value... AND the team can just as quickly move on from him as soon as they find a better option. Let's just say that the better option, for whatever reason, does not turn up until January or February (late FA signing, trade, whatever...); there should be no impediment to moving on from Jeimer. To one of Chas's earlier points: there are teams out there that have a need and will certainly look at Jeimer as a candidate. He does not have ZERO value out on the market despite what anyone thinks of him here... Harris "should" be able to trade him at any point in time, as long as he hasn't destroyed his 2023 value (medically, atrocious start to 2023 in which February will have revealed nothing to that point, or otherwise, etc.).
  8. Possible future trade value at the deadline? Yes.
  9. PS: I'd rather sign Eva Longoria, as 3B coach, just for the eye candy... Than Evan Longoria.
  10. I would be interested in this as an alternative. Not signing Longoria.
  11. Except... The calculated risk yields more dividends with Candy getting back to a 3 WAR player than holding onto the corpse of Evan Longoria. But more to the point... I'm going to guess that Harris counts pennies. Because pennies can sometimes add up to dollars. The reward to the risk of betting on Candy next year is that Harris can trade him at the deadline for something of value. Versus absolutely zero value for 37 y.o. Longoria. And even if it's trading Shane Greene for Joey Wentz, or Daniel Norris for Reese Olson or Jeimer Candelario at the trade deadline for... ____________? ... there is the possibility of unlocking some kind of future value by betting on a Candy recovery. But... that would be... A calculated risk.
  12. Yes... BUT: Now we have a killer wait for season 2... !!! Also: How did Daemon know that Lucerys was killed? It was in the middle of nowhere... or was Rhaenyra just reacting to Daemon telling her he got them dragon Vermithor? She looked shaken by the message and turned around in rage so it had to be Lucerys news... how did Daemon know?
  13. That's a calculated risk that help builds this team for the future? 37 y.o. dead-in-the-water Longoria? I think Harris has a different definition of calculated risk than that... But... we'll see.
  14. There's nothing left of Longoria. That ship sailed 3 years ago. No thanks.
  15. And this is the other key point... I think Candy is closer to this guy and 3 WAR than the .630 OPS 0.5 WAR guy from 2022...
  16. This is where I'm at and why I'm good with bringing back Candy. And the $7 mill is absolutely meaningless. It doesn't preclude the team from finding any other option out there, if there is one to be found... and obtaining him. I see no reason to not give him the QO unless the team believes he is actually broken... As one additional point: If Candy is on the team, and Tork needs some extended AAA time (I doubt it... just sayin'), Candy can actually passably handle 1B. I'd rather that as backup option to Tork than Miggy, Schoop, or Harold... who should be kept at DH, 2B, and Utility, respectively. And I would rather Kreidler get all that time at 3B as well, rather than keeping Candy at 3B and going to one of those other options. Just my 2 cents.
  17. PS: Just my opinion... but I think this should be the "Who does Goff get replaced by?" thread. That's the real conversation... with more than one option/ opinion that will be floating around... But I do think it will be the earliest/ best 1st round pick QB that we can get our hands on next year... Just my opinion...
  18. Yeah, I don't think there's much discussion. What buddha said.
  19. They looked good today. Better than I can remember in the longest time on Power Play, power play entries, overall puck control and passing and overall defensive philosophy (not perfect, but a lot better than in recent memory, read: Blashill) and it appears defensive talent as well... (it's early, but Hronek is +5 in 5 games?!?! That's a huge turnaround for him I'm going to guess is Lalonde's D philosophy, a demand for D effort... and D partner (I'm calling it as Maata helping Hronek here...)), plus depth of talent. I'm certain there will be ups and down this year... But it looks like we are making the first step back towards contending for the playoffs again.
  20. Larkin should be 5 games 7 points...
  21. Russia = KIDNAPPERS of UKRAINIAN CHILDREN: https://www.yahoo.com/news/using-adoptions-russia-turns-ukrainian-141414618.html
  22. Not even counting the debt trap that China has unwittingly put on itself... it'll be interesting to see how that plays out...
  23. those guys are freaking hilarious! I'm on board... a massive show-up of historically accurate participants, including "field workers" in chains with all the bags of cotton balls that they've "picked"... Good for a laugh or six...
  24. Seider looks like he's starting this year a bit slowly...
  25. I think that's absolutely true, today. But it may not be true by the end of this season. This is exactly what I'm saying. I hate to use this, very, very bad word again, but... I think this team is going to need some "patience". From us fans. For all these kids. For Weaver (this is what I have been addressing for the most part in this thread... it seems like some may already be losing patience with Weaver? I don't get that, at all. Not you buddha... I'm just sort of both answering your post as well as jumping up on my soap box for a minute... To emphasize (soap box): These kids are All-Caps YOUNG!) IMO... maybe not so much patience with Casey. But yeah, lots of losing ahead. Lots of growing pains. But, I'm still thinking that Livers and Duren may be better than Bey and Stewart by seasons' end, at least in specific areas...
