Don't know if either have any trade value but... I think they could easily 40 Soto and then trade him before the offseason is over. I think there will be a demand for him.

But the EU and all other democratic nations need to move very, very fast on that. Heck, in the EU, do electric mass-transit as an even faster changeover than just EV cars. I'm also open to the newer, smaller nuclear power plants filling in some energy gaps. Don't the French reactors minimize or eliminate nuclear waste? Do it. All over the place. North America, EU, Japan is starting up theirs again... etc. All of this stuff in total will not hurt China at all... but the Middle East and all other oil & gas driven economies will suffer... No tears. At all.

I think he will get Spring Training invite love this year... and I'd be OK with that being the Tigers STI... And not much more than that. Minor league contract at best, just a guess.

Yeah OK... probably my weakest move... I think I dinged Lange on weak K-BB ratio, weak WHIP #'s, but was concentrating on minor league numbers for all the young guys with small sample sizes and may have misfired on Lange. But a quick perusal... Go ahead and put Lange back on the 40... but I'm thinking of sacrificing Schoop rather than Daz. That may be symphonic dissonance to everyone's ears... and it's not like I'm all that high on Daz... more like I am very, very down on Schoop. As far as I'm concerned, out with over-the-hill and hold onto the kids, just in case. Just my 2 cents...

So, based on some of the comments above: I would construct our off-season 40-man under the following Title: Pre-Trade/FA 40, with the following parameters: Rule 5 guys that you want protected, list the full 40 because any subsequent moves (dropped in favor of a FA, dropped in favor of a pending Rule 5 selection, or any trades)… are an unknown at this point. The following 40 is simply my guess at our starting point before any other offseason moves are made (if you want to propose trading Soto or any similar move, have at it… this is just my “starting point”): Pitchers: Tyler Alexander (29L 1.30), Beau Brieske (25R 1.06), Luis Castillo (27R 1.30), Andrew Chafin (33L 1.22), Angel De Jesus (26R 1.13), Alex Faedo (27R 1.11), Jason Foley (27R 1.34), Rony García (25R 1.16), Sawyer Gipson-Long (4.7 - 25R AA 1.26), Garrett Hill (27R 1.20), Joe Jiménez (28R 1.34), Matt Manning, Casey Mize, Eduardo Rodriguez, Elvin Rodriguez (25R 1.23), Tarik Skubal, Gregory Soto (28L 1.35), Spencer Turnbull, Will Vest (27R 1.30), Joey Wentz, Brendan White (3.8 - 24R AA 1.20) Bubble/ Gone: José Cisnero (34R 1.34), Miguel Diaz (28R 1.33), Kyle Funkhouser (29R 1.43), Bryan Garcia (28R 1.20), Drew Hutchison (32R 1.42), Alex Lange (27R 1.33), Daniel Norris (30L 1.38) Going out on a limb here: and protecting Gipson-Long and Brendan White. Just a hunch (that and their high K-BB ratios if we’re doing analytics). IMO – all of these guys that we’ve “lost” here… can be invited back on Spring Training invites. I think all of them will be back as such, along with whatever other competition Harris can find/ sign as a FA/ or trade for. The last two of which obviously would engender even more 40 man transactions. Position Players: Akil Baddoo, Javier Báez, Daz Cameron, Jeimer Candelario, Kerry Carpenter, Harold Castro, Brendon Davis, Riley Greene, Eric Haase, Ryan Kreidler, Andre Lipcius, Austin Meadows, Parker Meadows, Wenceel Perez, Victor Reyes, Jake Rogers, Ali Sánchez, Jonathan Schoop, Spencer Torkelson Leaving/ retired: Tucker Barnhart, Miguel Cabrera, Willi Castro, Kody Clemens, Luis García, Josh Lester, Zack Short Sorry… My agenda is to “retire” Miggy. Feel free to add him back in in your versions of our 40 and drop whatever borderline pitcher/ Rule 5/ bench guy that you want to. My last struggle was between Willi, Adinso Reyes, and Daz… I don’t really consider Willi an OF’er, really he’s a guy with no glove/ position so… I’m giving Daz just one more chance (and taking a chance in losing Adinso). I don’t feel good about it. But that’s the way it goes until we sign someone better and Daz loses his 40 spot… TBC…

That looks 99.9% what I would expect for Opening Day lineup. Berggren in Grand Rapids and the other two as the extra guys... Debatable on Soderblum breaking with Detroit but I could see a compelling reason for it (basically, ST's, plus... 3rd or 4th line would seem appropriate). Edvinsson if they break with the best players; o/w Grand Rapids if he needs some smaller rink seasoning. One or both 4th pairing guys as the extra(s) depending on what happens with Edvinsson.

Wasn't Piercey just released?

I don't know if I would use the word interesting. I think I would use the word "grotesque". As in, there is one grotesque person in this race, who never should have been there. And look at how grotesque the GOP has become to put up and "champion" grotesque candidates like him. And he's not the only one. F'ing grotesque. Him... and the GQP.

Week Four: Seattle Seahawks (1-2) @ Detroit Lions (1-2)
1984Echoes replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I understood what SF said to be exactly this. I don't believe it's some monstrous mistake as SF does, however... I really want Campbell to change his mindset on this. I think it is important. Listen guys... if we have a killer offense and hugely suspect defense then what should we do? Take the ball first and march down the field and score first. Put the pressure on the other team to stay with us. The league (and Campbell's) mentality is ALWAYS to defer to the 2nd half. We need to do the opposite. Score first, fast, and often and put the onus on the other team. And... Probably hold on for dear life starting in the second half as we kick off to the other team. With our lovely defense. But I really want Campbell's famous (infamous?) aggressiveness to include this titanic change in thinking. And do the exact opposite of what everyone else in the league does... I understand SF perfectly... -

He'll be at the backend of the 40 so it will be a tough decision on him. We can all see the negatives... But he's put up some recent good performances... even though there is a good degree of "mirage" in there as Cas has pointed out. -

There's going to be "musical chairs" this offseason so it will be interesting to see who loses their chair. Excuse me... Chairs. Plural. -

The answer is yes. He's going to be given some more run and I think he definitely squeezes onto our winter-2022-23 40-man. I mean maybe they find someone that takes his spot. But there are a lot of other guys that can easily be broomed off the 40 so... I think the last few spots of this year's 40 will be between Garcia and a couple of the "iffy" kids that might deserve a spot and... Garcia will be held onto... Just my 2 cents. -

I see no reason to have Norris, Funk, Cisnero or Hutch on the 40. Norris just doesn't offer enough for a 40 spot, and they already knew that and dumped before because of that. They just needed a bandaid and that's all Norris is at this point. Same with Hutch. I like him. In AAA that is... which they've done the past 3 years and in 2023 it'll be the same as well I think. Not on the 40, have him at Toledo (I think he'll be open to it as there won't be other opportunities that offer anything more so he'll be an Org guy for us)... and as a bandaid for us when everything goes to hell I also like him since, as you pointed out, he keeps the team in the game. But I think he's still a AAA/ AAAA/ 10th starter guy for any team. Not a 40-guy. But we'll see. I don't see however, any reason to save a 40-spot for him. But that's just me. Funk shouldn't be given a 40 spot. He's also a borderline guy, even if we feel he has a little more run/ upside in him... but, coming off an injury, I doubt anyone else is willing to take a 40 chance on him either. Maybe I'm wrong here... but at 29 years old next year... not having all that much MLB track record or showing anything that compelling, and coming off an injury... why would we hold a 40-spot open for him? Cisnero is 33 and it's time with "out with the old, in with the new". Get him off the 40. They may even invite him to ST but then that says he couldn't get a contract... someone will want him. But it's time for the Tigers to move on. Even though he's pitched some decent games for us. Garcia has shown nothing in the way of having enough control. But I think he's the last guy on this list that gets shown the door. He may be bumped off the 40... but I'm going to wait on this one and see if he squeezes for a little while longer. He has a live arm, is the youngest of these 5... we'll see... -

They've had Baddoo leading off the past week or so... So... What is AJ thinking here...? -
I would like that as a proactive action not a reactive response.
-
Just a quick thought: so... the Seattle game has told us nothing we didn't already know... we need to have a very, very heavy defense-laden draft and off-season. Unless a new QB is snuck in there somewhere... but it's my opinion that that should not be the priority. Defense... defense... defense... and last but not least: defense. Oh, and maybe a fast RB, raw but with potential...

No buddha, you had it originally correct: $32 mill 2023. Plus either $30 mill team option in 2024 or the $8 mill buyout. 32 + 8 = 40. -

With an $8 million buyout that is guaranteed. It vests automatically as you say. But with zero chance of vesting, there is still a team option for 2024 OR an $8 million buyout. $32 Mill plus an $ 8 mill guaranteed buyout for 2024 = $40 mill.
