  1. Which also means he wasn't a full-time hitter until 1919, at the age of 24. So from 19-23, when he was in MLB, limited PA's... almost as if he lost the equivalent of 3-4 years, although he was obviously very young at the time... and the ball may very well have been a whole lot "deader" at the time anyways... still.
  2. DD would have traded those two in a nano-second. I still remember him trading anyone who was unloadable, and I do mean anyone, from 2002-2005. Jeff Weaver for Carlos Pena + others in 2002, and also Brian Moehler traded that deadline, traded Randall Simon over the winter, Mark Redmon for Nate Robertson + others 2003, here's a FUNNY one: DD acquired AJ Hinch, catcher, on 3/29/03 from the Indians for a PTBNL, traded Adam Bernero, 2004 traded Ramon Santiago and Juan Gonzalez (the OTHER Juan G) to the Mariners for Carlos Guillen, and Cody Ross for Steve Colyer (ewww... confession, I was for the trade at the time. Still never thought much of Ross but he did have a career whilst Colyer had none), 2005 traded for Kyle Farnsworth, traded Ugy Urbino and Ramon Martinez for Placido Polanco, traded Farnsworth for Roman Colon and Zach Miner, traded away Kenny Baugh.... Man, I agree. If you're in a rebuild... you keep churning the roster until you don't need to any more. He absolutely should have traded Fulmer and Boyd if he had the chance and a really great offer... for either or both.
  3. I wanted to take a look at this because... Matt Boyd was never as good as Skubal. Skubal is K'ing at almost 10K's per 9 so far in his young career. With a 1.25 WHIP, low walks (2.7 BB's per 9 or a 3.7 K to BB ratio), and too many HR's at 1.7 per 9 innings. At 25 years old, he's lost some innings to Covid maybe, so his career is 288 inn's including tonight... but I'm going to look at who most closely matches that. And it ain't Boyd. I don't think Boyd EVER touched 98... something Skubal does often. I even tried Nate Robertson, who could bring some heat IIRC... but their peripherals were not close, same as Boyd's. I know Boyd had two "decent" years at 27-28... but that's it. (I am highlighting how different he is from Skubal; all other pitchers I'll highlight what is most similar to Skubal...). So, Skubal (3 years 23-25): 288 inn's, 1.25 WHIP, 8.3 hits/9, 1.7 HR's/ 9, 2.7 BB's/9, 9.8 K's/9, 3.7 K-BB ratio Matt Boyd (3 years 24-26): 290 inn's, 1.50 WHIP, 10.2 hits/9, 1.6 HR's/ 9, 3.2 BB's/9, 7.3 K's/9, 2.3 K-BB ratio Gio Gonzalez (4 years 22-25): 535 inn's, 1.44 WHIP, 8.3 hits/9, 0.9 HR's/ 9, 4.4 BB's/9, 8.6 K's/9, 1.9 K-BB ratio (Gonzalez took off at age 26 pitching a whole lot better than this... but just for the comparison up to age 25... see above). Cole Hamels (4 years 22-25): 737 inn's, 1.19 WHIP, 8.3 hits/9, 1.2 HR's/ 9, 2.3 BB's/9, 8.6 K's/9, 3.7 K-BB ratio (Obviously, Hamels was a much better pitcher. But I think I can stop right here. Their peripherals are nearly IDENTICAL. Does that mean Skubal = Hamels? Most likely not. But he's trending in the right direction there...). Think anyone can find a pitcher with closer peripherals than Hamels? Go for it. Let's see who can come up with closer numbers than those two...
  4. Lange's already warming up I believe. On another note: If Grossman's and Candy's bats are returning... that's a huge list for this anemic offense.
  5. On the subject of A-10 Warthogs for Ukraine: https://www.yahoo.com/news/air-force-open-sending-10s-164748969.html
  6. There's a list somewhere... but I can't seem to find it...
  7. Not if you start losing minor leaguers due to 40-man and Rule 5 considerations. And we have a boatload of Rule 5 eligible guys this year. I believe including Carpenter.
  8. When Miggy turns into pathetic, and a humiliating embarrassment, in 2023... Because yeah, that's what we really want to see... Because, reasons...
  9. Kerry Carpenter goes on to have a Matt Joyce (12th rounder) type of career (111 OPS+, 10 Career WAR). But he has it with another team, not the Tigers, because: "Miggy isn't blocking anyone". I disagree with this premise, 100%
  10. But we've had quite a few assholes on Red Wings teams in the past. Especially our winning teams. We could make a list...
  11. Not anymore. He's reached his milestone goals/ and Riley Greene & Tarik Skubal are on this team. So absolutely, not any more. I don't care who replaces him. It's time to look to the future. I want him retired after this season.
  12. It makes them better than the Cubs.
  13. The only thing that's required is for the Tigers to say: "Here Miggy, you're retired and here's your $40 million check," That's it. DO it Chris/ Al. DO it!!!
  14. People will speak with their feet: There will be an extensive exodus from regressive anti-abortion states. Possibly in droves, but who can predict the extent...? It has already begun. https://msmagazine.com/2021/09/16/texas-tech-companies-abortion-ban-brain-drain-recruitment-salesforce-donna-howard/ https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2022-07-19/as-professionals-flee-anti-abortion-policies-red-states-start-to-see-a-brain-drain https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/261-politics/80085627
  15. I want Miggy "retired". Before next season starts. I'm with you. It's time to move on. Great career, and love all that he's done with, and for, the Tigers. But it's time to move on and search for the next generation.
  16. They might want to start with those two... but if they're forced to trade him, and they are, the trade talks definitely will continue (and NOT end) without those two names included.
  17. They've had a few mini-mutinies (remember the one Colonel run over by a tank/ his own troops?) And there have been refused orders, etc... but all small scale/ nothing game changing. But speaking of which... a theater wide mutiny in Ukraine by all the "Russian" troops would be astounding/ humiliating/ hilarious. That would put an end to the Putin Regime (IMO...) and any thoughts of expanding Russia by stealing other countries' territory.
  18. I'd be perfectly fine if Wentz could make it to the back end of our rotation...
  19. That's a separate bridge. Also, the Crimea rail bridge doesn't cut off Russia's southern army. It just cuts off the span between Russia and Crimea (city of Kerch) over the Kerch Straits (between the Azov and Black Seas). They still have the new land route between Russia, over southern Ukrainian territory that they just took, going through Mariupol and Melitopol to still get to Crimea and the rest of their southern army. That won't cut off anything except easy and direct access to Crimea (the bridge). They should still take that out though... but I think that is a separate and later campaign; only if and when the Ukrainians want to make an attempt to take back Crimea should they pull that move. And I don't believe it's smart to go after Crimea either because Russia will unleash their full might and fury to protect the Naval Base in Sevastopol. Possibly nukes. They're not going to fuck around and lose Crimea. No. Possible. Way. But in order for Ukraine to improve their bargaining power, significantly, they have to take back Kherson. Kherson controls the water supply into Crimea. 10 points. Kherson is west of Crimea, and west over the Dnieper (I think they spell it Dnipro) River. If the Ukrainians destroy THAT bridge, they strand 15,000 Russian soldiers west of the Dnieper River, with a dismal possibility of resupplying those soldiers, or their retreat. And facing Ukraine's full "western" campaign to take back that territory. I think those 15,000 Russian soldiers, once the bridge is destroyed and they can't retreat or get resupplied, surrender. 1 point (Putin could give a fuck how many soldiers he loses...). It also puts them in a position to easily win all the territory west of Crimea... and if they reach the land bridge leading into Crimea, they can easily block access into Crimea from the Donbas/ Russia/ Mariupol/ Melitopol highway. 100 points. Now that rail bridge over the Kerch Straits COUNTS.
  20. I think the 3rd won't mean anything to them but take that out and add in Wallinder and another prospect they like and that gets the deal done. But... Just guessing.
  21. I keep asking for this. Cutoff their supply route, and push them back East of the Dnieper River.
  22. Lot of big, healthy pitchers drafted.
