You are missing one assumption: Vision. If someone votes without the vision (foresight, whatever one wants to call it) to see what is the consequences of said vote, or non-vote; then I assume that person is a moron. To completely not understand voting for Donald MF'ing Trump, as a Bernie Bro turncoat (I believe stats say approximately 10% of them turned to Trump rather than vote for Hillary... so they are NOT blameless (I took a stab at the %, don't remember what it actually was but it was higher than 0% and lower than... maybe 20%?)); OR Otherwise... Is a shame upon that person non-voting or voting for a Fascist Scumbag like Trump. And just change the name to George W. Bush. The conversation doesn't change. If someone believes W. is a moron, would be an atrocious, nightmare president... then one should... stay at home because one wanted someone else as the Dem nominee, not Gore? No. Bagley looked really appealing if we were a team with a severe deficiency in athleticism. Even with all the warts he was covered in. Now that we have Ivey and Duren (which doesn't say that we stop trying to add athleticism...); I see only the warts that Bagley carries. Right now he's an afterthought. Every 3&D guy we can get on this team, and even a couple guys who may not have much "D" but can really "3", would be more appealing than Bagley. Remember, we still have Bey and Stewart; who may not be the most athletic, but add more varied talents to the team than a Bagley. If we add Bagley, or a similar athlete that needs to be developed onto this team... I think it's the last open spot that we are filling... We already have Ivey & Duren who are athletic, and will need a lot of time to develop all of their basketball skills...

Final Answer: Bridges. Obvious after we drafted Duren. Even if Ayton & Duren are not exactly the same skills. What drafting Duren does sort of force, is to find 3 & D frontcourt guys that have perimeter range both offensively and defensively. Olynyk is a better fit on the court with Duren than Ayton; and signing Ayton probably pushes Duren to the bench for the next 4 years or so of Ayton's contract. Maybe someone is OK with that (Duren on the bench behind Ayton whilst Duren learns the NBA under Ayton's tutelage...); but I think resources are better spent on switchable defenders that can cover the perimeter and not just the interior exclusively, who can also stretch the D when we're on offense. Bridges, not Ayton.

I'm sold on going after Bridges as a FA instead of Ayton.

It's looking like a 3-way trade with Detroit getting Duren & Walker (who's a lot less expensive then Hayward); and we send the 2025 Milwaukee 1st pick to Charlotte. Not certain what else between Knicks & Hornets... So Jerami Grant for 2nd's and Kemba Walker at 1 year $9 Mill and Jalen Duren at # 13. Yeah, I'm good with that.

But if you're just going to get a 1-year stopgap guy... which is basically not much more than nothing... Then trading "nothing" to get him is not a "Fail", it's a "Pass" - not in the sense that you are getting anyone "really good", but that you are just filling an MLB hole that needs filling for a year. It's like getting a C- or a D+... Yeah, you pass, but it's barely over the finish line of passing. It was just enough to "get by". That's how I view Barnhart.

I totally forgot those names but now that you mention them... Yeah, now I remember Danrys and Wilken... But I think there was a large gap between those signings - nothing but small-dollar signings - until they went back into the top-30 International Prospects again... and signed Wenceel in 2016. IIRC.

Maybe I was reading other articles but I never saw either one of those: That AA was a genius or that he (Barnhart) was expected to be anything other than a 1-year stopgap. My own expectations, starting from when Rogers went in to Tommy John, and have never changed since that time, were that we need only a 1-year stopgap to get back to Rogers after he recovers. Barnhart certainly was not someone taht was going to change that for me. And I'm pretty certain I argued that on the old board... "Barnhart's a crappy option, but we only need him for one year." It doesn't take a whole lot of research on, like, you know, the internet, to see that Barnhart is a 31 year old "meh" catcher not any different than as described: a crappy 1-year option just to get by until we get Rogers back.

And that's not even the issue. The only correct issue here is that we needed a 1-year stopgap MLB catcher. Barnhart probably should be a #2 catcher. But he was a #1 catcher previously, and even if he SHOULD be a #2 catcher, we got him for THIS YEAR ONLY to be a #1 stopgap catcher. Listen (not to just you G2, but addressing this to everyone), there may be a lot of issues with this team, starting with health and a lot of failed expectations... but why is everyone making Barnhart out to be something more than what he is? Pure and simple: a 1 year stopgap. I could care less about Barnhart... I think there are bigger fish to fry... IMO.
