I cannot resolve that conundrum. I'm just saying, nervous parents get nervous... doesn't require rhyme or reason. And I'm also saying that anti-vaxxers in schools does give them a reason (in their own minds)... to be unnecessarily overprotective. I do think it's unnecessary. They are not following the science. But nervous parents being nervous parents, are reacting to the actions of others. I'm not trying to justify it. I just think that's an explanation of behavior.

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
1984Echoes replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
No, that was not in the last year. The on-field performance at the MLB level was last year, we can all attribute that to Hinch. But not the organizational changes nor the drafting strategy... Hinch just accelerated the process. You can even say vastly if you want to. But it didn't all happen last year. That's just being disingenuous.- 1,851 replies

and yet... The Tigers have done a complete 180 turnaround in draft & develop strategy, analytics, scouting, talent-in-the-minor-leagues-pipeline, etc., etc. etc... By this exact same person.- 1,851 replies

Impartial election observers and other election oversight officials are being replaced in every single swing state (Arizona, Georgia, etc.) by Trump Supporting Hacks. Their intention is to overthrow our Democracy and to install Trump as fascist dictator. The next coup attempt will be successful.

I'm not talking about myself personally. Yes, I'm vaxxed and boosted so I have no worries in public. I'm talking about the general population which may not be as fearless person-by-person. Especially parents, as they can often be worry-warts over their kids and over-protective. That just comes naturally. That's why I'm saying it's a component in schools... natural parents' overprotectiveness.

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
1984Echoes replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
No. Not necessarily. An organization could be so bereft of talent due to a prior administration that is takes 5 years to recover. A new administration may make some initial mistakes but gets better as the years accumulate and shows serious promise and a serious pipeline of talent by the time we get to 5 years. Baseball prospects take longer to develop than basketball prospects and a team needs more of them to build a competitive team. These are all valid reasons that a team/ administration is NOT a failure simply because it took 5 years to get a team back on track. In other words, if the Tigers are a serious competitive team this year, with a bright future, does that mean that this administration is a failure? Because... it took them 5 years to get here.- 1,851 replies

Teams need to be ALLOWED to make that judgement call and not have to listen to a stream of "you're tanking" and other criticism. I don't care if it takes 5 years to do it. If your team is falling apart or going nowhere tear it down and build it up the right way. No matter the length of time it takes.- 1,851 replies

The one thing I would argue against, is that this is the only or primary reason. I believe on the flipside... because of the right's callous disregard for health and safety... that the left is now overcautious in being anywhere near the unvaccinated and that therefore, it is the behavior of those unvaccinated (maybe not 100% from the right, but primarily so...) that is leading to a large portion of that low attendance, and of the left's reluctance to re-engage. Just my opinion...

Staal is getting older and slower, and he's a free agent so we'd have to re-sign him... but he's still more of a positive than negative, and even if he's riding the bench instead of playing, or he's 3rd pairing... I'd want him as the one veteran guy used for leadership and helping out the young guys... Leddy is also going to be a free agent and is becoming more than one-dimensional, not providing the offense that we traded for, and is a major net negative on the ice. I don't think he's brought back for the 2022-23 season IMO. Oesterle with another year may end up as our 8th defenseman which I don't really care much about anyways. Unless Stevie cares and goes out and replaces him. Then I'm good with that too. DeKeyser also is a FA after this season. I don't have strong feelings one way or another. But I would say this... if a young guy takes over his spot (McIsaac?), I won't shed tears. He's on the wrong side of 30, playing the worst of his career, can't be counted on for a full schedule... I just have no compelling reason to still want him on this team. Not to be unsentimental but... I'm ready to move on. To me, I want Staal back the most, Oesterle 2nd (just due to contract and an 8th guy anyways, nothing else), and then I don't really care much about Leddy or DeKeyser anymore...

Still hold onto Hronek though, for now, as he's young enough that the "light bulb" may still turn on. Or at least I'd want a newer young guy coming up to push him out the door rather than just dumping him. Stecher is no great shakes either... I wouldn't be counting on him to give any kind of boost to the D. And the same reason that Hronek is held onto, youth and not much else, is the same reason that we hold onto Lindstrom. At least Lindstrom is breaking even on the +/-, although, I don't know if that really says anything. But maybe he can take over for Staal as the defense-first guy who has more of a positive impact on the ice than negative... we'll see. The real solution to fixing this defense is having several prospects actually make it to the NHL and be impactful, or more than impactful. That pushes guys like Hronek, Stecher and Lindstrom either lower in the pairings, or off the ice mostly, or onto another team or, maybe, into being better players through competition. We'll see... on all of this as it will take a few years for guys to come up. But what really helps is not just Edvinsson coming up and making a major impact but, Lindstrom/ Hronek improving, McIsaac coming up and being successful, and/or at least a couple of Tuomisto, Buium, Johansson, Sebrango, or Wallinder making it into the NHL and being impactful for the team We're not going to find out how this resolves itself for at least a couple years though... So.. it sucks to say this but... patience?
-
I'm taking it from a "who do you keep" perspective as we'll need 8 defenseman regardless... and we don't have enough kids coming up to take all of those spots... not yet at least. So who do you keep, or let go, in order of preference, out of these vets: Staal Leddy DeKeyser Oesterle

No doubt whatsoever. Just lies intended to obscure their fascism in any way possible. But all the possible ways of their intended coup are now being brought to light.

Putin loves boot-lickers.

PS: I'm guessing Yzerman will try to re-sign him. The one veteran actually helping out the defense.
-
They'll try to trade them at the deadline but I don't see much of a market for either... Always need depth so maybe we can keep Oesterle in the 8th defenseman spot next year... Unless Stevie decides to do something different over the summer...
-
There are QB's in every single draft (obviously some are better than others...) so... I am fully on board with building this team up and then grabbing the right QB at the right time... Even if we finish in the 12-ish draft pick range next year and have to trade (3) 1sts + more to go up and get whoever is the 2nd QB between Young and Stroud if they are our true QB of the future... When it comes time to pay the price to get our QB we just... Pay the price.

Sweet Tuzzi deflection...! And thanks for that. How soon can we move on from DeKeyser and Oesterle? And Leddy? Staal is a keeper, at least he's a defensive defenseman that can still do his job. Can McIsaac and Edvinsson make the team next year? Edvinsson is a bit young but...

He has room to get better so we'll see what happens over the next few years. Yikes to us if he turns into Josh Allen...
