They have two 3rds and I don't believe it out of the realm of possibilities one of 'em is used to fix the kicker position. There are actually 2 kickers both accurate and with monster legs (over 50% from over 50 yards): Josh Karty and Dragan Kesich. -
Well... Tuomisto seemed to mature slowly but he's now in Grand Rapids and looking decent I believe, if not yet ready for the NHL... They've got Seider. And just drafted Pellikka, who looks beyond dynamic... And in the same draft they added another depth guy in 2nd rounder Andrew Gibson (RH'd D). And Anton Johansson RHD in the 4th round 2022... So they've got some guys on the right side but mostly we don't know how they're going to turn out, or how long it takes, aside from Seider. It wouldn't bother me if Stevie is able to hunt for a defenseman or two at the deadline... I'll take one from each side thank you very much.

I think the Wings are going to try like hell to hold onto their RH'ed D-prospects. They'll trade from the Left side if it comes to that... IMO.
-
Maybe right now... But I think the Org is pretty high on Albert Johansson and on Wallinder too. Don't know if that means they're ready this year, 2024, or never... I'm just thinking of trades either to open space or to send out excess prospects... I'd like to make a massive trade with Calgary... some how, some way. If the Wings don't make a playoff-worthy run over the next 6-ish weeks... I could see Gostisbehere traded, along with Perron and maybe even Petry (not that that gets us much... just sayin').

Two years ago Buium looked great at Denver. Last year - meh. But this year he looks good again. His younger brother offers more offense but Shai is bigger and offers more defense/ and still has some plus offense to give... I don't know what that says anything about his NHL prospects...? I guess we'll find out soon enough. I think he's 2024 in Grand Rapids. As for signing, why would he NOT sign with the Wings SFK? PS: Zeev Buium is mocking at around 15 which is really close to where the Wings might be picking. But I'm looking for the best 2-way player and would prefer a forward over D. Just my 2 cents...

What are we going to do with all these LH'ed Defense prospects? They can't ALL play in the NHL at the same time: (Already on the Wings) Walman, Maatta and trade these two? Chiarot & Gostisbehere? Prospects: Edvinsson Wallinder Albert Johansson Viro (fringy but still tossing him in here...) Buium Cleveland (8th D at best... just for fighting...)

I think Teddy sticks with us through the playoffs. Just in case. But your point remains: Last time Teddy "should" see the field. So I'm good with that: Hooker 3rd Qtr, Teddy 4th... For the ovation. -
Like I've said... Maybe he's not as bad as it looks because he's getting PTSD from our (lack of) defense. Anyways... I'm not worried about trading him. Not yet. Not until Cossa and/or Augustine are pushing him out the door. We'll cross that bridge when we get there, and we'll see where he's at, at that point in time. Maybe our defense will be worlds better and he won't look so bad... Look at Nedeljkovic: .934 at Carolina, .899 with Detroit, .920 with Pittsburgh. At some point he's an expiring contract as well (don't know if that counts for anything in the NHL...)

The easy answer to that is: "That's because there is ZERO ****ing crime in that area (dip****)."

OK... Bridgewater in the 3rd and Hooker in the 4th. I still wanna see Hendon Hooker for a quarter please... -
And that's not 100% certain yet either. Looking pretty likely... But I'll wait until he's released and proven that he's not a Melifonwu-late-bloomer-after-getting-past-injuries player...
-
No... It'll just suck because he bombs out. But I think the bigger point is that I still won't hate Stevie Y for spending a 1st rounder on him because I think he both has to (A) Trust his scouts and (B) Use whatever means necessary to go out and find his 1A starter. (C) Even if Cossa bombs out. To further illustrate: If you are correct and Cossa becomes nothing more than a 1B starter and Augustine turns into a phenomenal 1A starter... I still won't hate where Cossa was drafted. If they become a tremendous 1-2 punch and Cossa is the #2 in that scenario, even as a 1st rounder... good on Yzerman for finding a a tremendous 1-2 punch at goalie. And one that will be cost effective for the next 5 years which means we can trade Husso...
-
Yes... Husso is overpaid. And he was better last year... at least at the start of the season. I'm leery of Husso being "bad" though because IMO we're overusing and abusing him with bad defense. I don't know if Nedeljkovic is a good comp... but: .932 save percentage with Carolina in 2020-21 in 23 games. .901 save percentage with Detroit in 2021-22 in 59 games. Looked better at the start. Struggled in the second half. .895 save percentage with Detroit in 2022-23 in 15 games. Looked terrible all year. .920 save percentage with Pittsburgh in 2023-24 in 13 games. Are we seeing the same thing with Husso? .920 save percentage with St. Louis in 2021-22 in 40 games. .896 save percentage with Detroit in 2022-23 in 56 games. Looked better at the start. Struggled in the second half. .893 save percentage with Detroit in 2023-24 in 15 games. Has looked terrible all year. Is it ALL his fault? Or, like Ned, is he better in smaller doses and with better defense in front of him? I'm just asking.
-
But if Sebastian Cossa becomes a great goalie... Do you hate him because he was a 1st rounder and "overdrafted"? If so... why?
-
I think our goalies on the Wings are OK, not great. I don't mind Husso and Lyon at all, as 1B or backup goalies. We don't have a 1A starter. But I think I am more unhappy with the defenseman and forwards playing crappy defense. It doesn't make our goalies better. But I think recommitting to defense and not stressing out our goalies with too many odd-man rushes gets us more wins. Our forwards & D'men are getting too Offense-happy for their own good. I like Kane and his playmaking/ goal-scoring ability... But I think he actually sparked this problem. I can't write that in stone... but since Kane, Offense-happy oh forgot about defense.
-
This is a key point. Gotta have them (QB's, goalies, starting pitchers) and they're hard to obtain, especially the best ones that get your teams wins. So... get them wherever you can find them. It's what Stevie, Holmes, and (GASP!!!) Avila have done. In Avila's case, Harris now has to turn Avila's less than stellar end results into an actual competitive team. In Holmes' case... Dan Campbell has kicked ass and bitten off kneecaps. In Stevie's case: We're stuck with that dreaded word "Patience" whilst we see which of his prospects turn into Cinderella's and which turn into pumpkins...
-
That was only in reference to drafting Cossa in the 1st. There's seems to be an abundance of whin... errr, complaining about that. As for the Wings struggling to get back to the playoffs... I'm (me myself and I) whining loudly about that. But I do get Stevie's request for patience and having to wait for a bunch of these prospects to pan out or not... In order to build a core of a playoff team. So... I'm willing to be patient for Edvinsson and Cossa and Augustine and Danielson and... It kills... but it's also required (patience) IMO. Like it or not.

It hasn't pulled in anything supernatural... mostly Munch as just a wildly strange/ interesting character. They've gone heavily into spousal/ physical/ violent abuse. It has me on edge. Waiting for the sky to fall on Roy Tillman and for Wayne & Dot to come out alive and well. With Lorraine having MAJOR support/ belief in Dot after everything that's come out...
-
Right... But the points are: 1) A team with a top-notch goalie is just not going to trade him. They're too hard to come by. 2) If there were some extenuating circumstances... maybe. But those guys would be easy to spot: IE: A pending Goalie FA that is asking for the moon on a team that just cannot afford it... Is there someone out there like that? Because if not, then there's no reason to trade Cossa. It's just wishful thinking with no basis in reality whatsoever. 3) A team asking for Cossa in a trade for a top goalie... says something about Cossa, right? Well... whatever that says about Cossa... Stevie doesn't already know that? 4) Lastly, Stevie has already stated that he's building through the draft and adding around the edges. He's stated multiple times that the fans gotta be patient. Patience, patience, patience... is what he has preached all along. That means: He's not trading Edvinsson, or Cossa, or Danielson, or Augustine, or Pellikka, or possibly not even Johansson or Wallinder; although, with the plethora of LH'ed defenseman we've got maybe he'll look at 1 or 2 of those guys as expendable for the right guy. But not the top prospects, like Edvinsson. Not gonna happen. He traded Kubalik, Sebrango, a 1st and a 4th for DeBrincat. Marginal guys. That means Veleno, Berggren, several LH'ed defenseman (or even RH'ed, like Viro, if it's for the right guy...), or other non-key guys, maybe even a Mazur or a Lombardi... but NOT top prospects. I'm just being realistic here. What makes you think Stevie will want to trade Cossa? The Org is VERY high on him, even though he still has a lot of learning/ growth curve yet. So, there's no realistic scenario in trading him except for fan's wishful thinking. And IF there was a trade of Cossa, it'd have to be a TOP Goalie... which is the other key problem: those guys are NEVER available.. so who? If you DON'T have an answer to this.. then he's NOT getting traded. Reality. Wanting to trade Cossa... for reasons... just does NOT add up, based on reality. IMO. Not emotion. Reality.
-
Cossa is not required to be traded in order to get a decent defenseman. You can get the EXACT same defenseman with Berggren, a second/third round pick, and Eemil Viro. And that's an overpay. (Pending FA). A younger guy with a couple years before FA is Wallinder and a 1st plus Berggren...). And I'm pretty certain that you KNOW Stevie Y is not going to trade Cossa. For a decent defenseman. Let's turn this around: Which NHL goalie do you believe Cossa should be traded for? Meaning... the goalie is available/the other team wants to trade him, and a he'd be a significant upgrade over Husso/ Lyon (a 1A starting goalie instead of a backup 1B-type.) And a Cossa package would get him.
