I rewatched “Anthropoid” on my flight back from DTW the other day and it strikes me just how oppressive the Germans were to the Czechoslovakians. Imagine having that as a neighbor country 80 years on. Imagine if the response to the JFK assassination was instant reprisals, wiping off the map entire villages and rounding up hostages and lots of the sort of torture that i didn’t want on my ipad screen on a flight. We talk a lot about patriotism in this country but those who live elsewhere love their countries and their own identities just as much.
