  1. would this be like a "Day of the Jackel" scenario?
  2. Wencel the pencil no more!
  3. Some team is going to draft a pitcher with 6 fingers aren't they?
  4. Young Frankenstein is a Mel Brooks movie too. That one has a lot going for it. The scene where Gene Hackman plays the blind man that the monster finds in the cabin in the woods. I still will announce things like he does "CIGARS!"
  5. Once they bring back Miggy we will be unstoppable.
  6. My father is 96 but his dad arrived in the United States from the UK in 1901 and may not have received US citizenship (he was a US Army veteran of WW1). So, Dad now 96 years old may have to go to South Sudan or El Salvador until his vague US Citizenship status (he was an USAF officer during the Korean War). Damn shame these cheaters, cheating the system.
  7. I really wish the articles had the author in the link so one could easily reject out of hand anything from certain reporters that are depressingly bad at their jobs.
  8. Mel Brooks comedy tree: so many good ones. I left "Blazing Saddles" off the list above and regret that. I notice that he actually fought in the town in Germany in WWII that I was stationed in during the 80s: Baumholder.
  9. Great thread. Loved some of these movies. To get down to 4...that's tough. "Death of Stalin" is great but its humor is not as important as it tackling the subject matter. Very similar to "Doctor Strangelove" in that regard. all of the Monty Python movies are great and I love all the humorous movies that Terry Gilliam did since (e.g., "The Fisher King", "Twelve Monkeys"). My American Mount Rushmore of Comedy: I'm going to have to work hard to narrow this down to 4. "This is Spinal Tap" The police said it was a crime best left, unsolved really - Rob Reiner comedy tree "Galaxy Quest" We've got to get out of her before one of those things kills Guy! "Tommy Boy" "The Big Lebowski" "Office Space" "Stripes" "Animal House" and "Vacation" both from National Lampoon "The Blues Brothers" "Zoolander" "Spy" My British Trafalgar Square of Comedy "In Bruges" The Corneto Trilogy: "Hot Fuzz," "Shaun of the Dead," "At the End of the World" All the Monty Python movies: "Holy Grail" being leader of the pack
  10. another 80s actress with a Justin Verlander/Max Scherzer fastball. Gretta Scachi, very cute Aussie who was in a movie that for some reason was on max rotation called The Coca Cola Kid.
  11. woops...Austria https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enns_(town)
  12. Dietrich Enns didn't speak with either a Prussian or Hessian accent? He also wasn't wearing the Von Enns crest or his monocle.
  13. two endorsements. Hmmm... I was thinking about Rachel Ward the other day...that woman had a fastball. Kelly Preston also could bring it.
  14. I thought Tuesday night was a perfect "fun game" but today with a huge unknown pitching and all the shuttieoutiesness of it...was gooder. I also didn't see very much because I was working.
  15. I'm good with that. He's where he needs to be at the bottom of the lineup for now. His speed is an amazing, nay unstoppable weapon in MLB the show. He has yet to turn that into a 120 stolen base season in reality. More is the pity.
  16. what is weird about that movie is that Kelly Preston died so young.
  17. Little Dieter wants to fly!
  18. Maybe even as a Detroit Tigers manager in a game where the pitcher is an aging vet who is considering retirement and is pitching a fantastic final game. I see John C. Reilly as a catcher type.
  19. Parker is not yet as hot a hitter as he was last Fall. Dang.
  20. I just saw him in "Patriot Day" on the tv last night and I was angry for him being in a movie that made Red Sox fans happy in any way. Except he was good in the movie and it is actually a gripping story.
  21. This is machine translated so...my son who has good German skills would laugh at me... Ich werde mit großer Effizienz und Sorgfalt pitchen
  22. The Berlin Airlift is a very appealing historical marker for US Air Force and stands in contrast to the 'knights of the sky' ethos of the fighter community. It involved crews working their asses off for an extended period to do a difficult and literally dirty job (coal), for a peaceful purpose that benefitted the peace over conflict.
  23. The sequence of not caught stealing on review and 3 run hr against is not great.
  24. Re: being "fixed". My wife thinks this is top 5 funniest memes she has seen. She's an animal lover who had a black cat who looked just like this so, make of that what you will.
