X isn’t exactly a source of measured commentary at the best of times, but I was watching the game with a friend last night and immediately after the decision to challenge we pulled up X to see the reaction. It did not disappoint.

It took me 20 seconds to figure out that the woman from the Eiffel Tower was speaking English not French.

I went to a couple of twinight doubleheaders in 1984-1986 when I had just gotten my license and was still living at home. I'd eat dinner at home during the first couple of innings of the 1st game, hop in the car in Sarnia and drive to the game while listening to Ernie and Paul, that would take around 65-75 minutes or 4 innings or so, I'd get to my seat in the 7th or 8th, watch the end of Game 1, get my bearings and a dog during the break between games, then settle in for Game 2. Sometimes I'd leave Game 2 in the 7th inning and listen to the rest of the game in the car on the way home. -
Looks like it.

Habs starting goalie Montembeault knocked out of Game 3 with injury. Backup Dobes in net. But in case he gets hurt too, a Montreal cop has suited up as emergency backup.

ESPN.com Pre-Draft Analysis Ratledge started 37 games at right guard, and his workout at the combine was impressive. He fires off the ball, knocks defenders back and stays connected in the run game. Ratledge keeps his base intact and covers linebackers when he releases to the second level. He's quick with the range to excel in zone-heavy schemes with improved footwork. Defenders can get into his frame initially, but he tends to work his big hands back inside and latches on as a pass blocker. He moves his feet, and he is tough to beat once he's in position. Ratledge packs a powerful punch and keeps his head on a swivel to work against stunts from the defensive line. -- Steve Muench Post-Draft Analysis If you asked before the draft what an ideal pick would be for Detroit in Round 2, this would have been the answer. Ratledge is an easy-moving right guard with big-time power on the point of impact in the run game. He also has the recovery agility to hold up in pass protection. The Lions need a right guard after Kevin Zeitler departed to the Titans in free agency, and they landed a battle-tested SEC starter. Ratledge will certainly see the field as a rookie with his impressive toughness and experience. -- Miller

With no game tonight, here for your viewing pleasure are 34 beatiful minutes of color footage from the 1968 season. This is similar to, but different than, the Year of the Tiger audio album that is loaded with Ernie Harwell and Ray Lane radio PBP. This is more Harwell narration than play by play. -

A 1:10pm/6:10pm split doubleheader tomorrow -
Rumblings in Vancouver about trading for Larkin. Really just typical blogger stuff without any inside knowledge, just that it "makes sense" to the bloggers because the Canucks need another centre and they think from that one clip about standing pat at the deadline that Larkin wants out of Detroit.

Anyone interested in old Tigers radio broadcasts, here's two for the price of one. Ernie and Paul calling both games of a Tigers-Orioles twi-night doubleheader in 1979. Wilcox the Game 1 starter, Jack Bellingham for Game 2. -
Wings need to start scouting Nepal, Bolivian mountain regions, and North Korea. They're cold and untapped. Think outside the box, Yzerman.

This is Cowboys content, but still a good line.

It was only 9 months ago that Baltimore's rebuild was considered to be miles ahead of the Tigers. -
Any chance the Ravens will take Ezeiruaku or is that now safe if the Lions want him?

I’m at an age now where everyone under 30 looks the same to me. -
A legendary haul despite being screwed out of Pavel Bure.

I pulled up the draft from 10 years ago. Only three 3rd rounders have more than 5 NHL career goals. Although that may be a bit of a fluke, as from that same draft eight 5th rounders have more than 5 NHL career goals including 3 with over 100. And that 3rd round yielded a couple of starting goalies in Adin Hill and Sam Montembeault. But yeah, below the 2nd round, chances of even a cup of coffee in the NHL are under 50%.

Done! Only the 2nd home loss for Cleveland this season.

Lots of blame to go around. I’m sure management isn’t happy with the players, the players aren’t happy with management, even the newish coach may have frustrations. Good, I want them to all be unhappy and unsatisfied this summer until Yzerman has a good offseason and until the players come to training camp ready.

Sorry, didn't see your post before posting in another thread. This isn't really Larkin's style, so he (and by extension teammates) must feel quite strongly about it.
