Playing for a bad team though. I think the Wings could have got Thatcher Demko from the Canucks for a 2nd and a middling prospect.

Brandon Carlo from the Bruins to the Leafs. Carlo is a tough defenseman who could have helped the Wings. But ahh, just realized Leafs gave up a 1st, that’s quite a bit.

And Berggren (#33 overall) and McIsaac (#36 overall) in that same draft. Felt like we had walked off with four 1st rounders. I think I described it that evening as a "potentially franchise-defining draft". Hey, I guess in a way it was, just exactly opposite to how I had hoped.

I have to think Mittelstadt was available for a reasonable price, given what Boston gave up. Coyle is old and Avs gave up Mittelstadt AND a 2nd rounder.
