  1. Wenceel, if you had done this a week ago...................... I feel kind of bad for Jace Jung. Couldn't have asked him to have a better Spring, but he'll get called up before too long, probably when the team realizes that McGonigle is a bum. Players with most presure are Parker Meadows and Jahmai Jones. I like Jones, but I think Jones only made it because he's out of options. No more waiting for Meadows to put it together. Show some of what we saw at the end of 2024. We know you can do that, let's do that again. Matt Vierling is the most underrated player on this team. Overrated? Well buddies Greene and Tork are in that conversation, but maybe because we overvaule them a bit. I don't expect McKinstry to play the way he did in the first half last year. Colt Keith can't slog through April and half of May anymore. If he can just be an average version of himself in the first 6 weeks, you've got a potential .275/340/.750 guy there with an ability to plug into 3 positions and DH. What is our bullpen Drew Anderson Manny DeJesus Kyle Finnegan Brennan Hanifee Tyler Holton Brant Hurer Kenly Jansen Connor Seabold Will Vests Looks like one too many..........is someone injured to start the season?
  2. What number is McGonigle? Can't be 85. That's a Spring Training number. #7? #15? #41?
  3. With Hall Of Famer Max Clark (just ask him) on the way, we won't need him.
  4. He's gotta prove he IS a centerpiece. He was so up and down. If they make the postseason again, he needs to come up with some key hits.
  5. put me in coach, i'm ready to play.(clap clap clap).........today (clap clap clap)
  6. Kevin McGonigle's family is like the Seattle Pilots equipment trucks in 1970 Those trucks, 2 days before the season, sat in Provo, Utah, waiting to hear if they were going to drive to Seattle or turn right and head to Milwaukee. Kevin's family waits........somewhere between Pennsylvania and San Diego - 2 days beore the season, waiting to find out where to go. Where do you think they are, Missouri? Those poor fools, waiting, just waiting. ♫ Go, go you Pilots You proud Seattle team Go, go you Pilots go out and build a dream You brought the majors to the evergreen northwest So go, go you Pilots you're going to be the best ♫
  7. They offered me 2 free tickets to any game that takes place between March and July 1 2027 (get it?)
  8. Does anyone know what happens to the minors if there is a lockout / strike. Are they part of it too now? Those little semi-pro leagues like the one we had in Utica might want to consider coming back next year.
  9. That CBA isn't going to change anything. That's what we thought the last few work stoppages. There's not going to be a salary cap and all these two sides are going to do is piss off their fan base, damage local game-centered economies and push the game further away from regular folks. Hundreds of other entertainment options are out there now. Cutting off their nose to spite their face, right?
  10. Might as well start envisioning Skubal in a Dodgers or Mets uniform. The upcoming labor stoppage (and likely lost 2027 season) won't do anything to stop that.
  11. AMERICAN LEAGUE East 2 - Toronto 92-70 I don't think they are an automatic in this division 4- Baltimore 88-74 I see a big big rebound for this young and improving team. 5 New York 87-75 This version of the Yankees is boring, but good. Boston 85-77 - This team could win the division or could finish last Tampa Bay 75-87 - I think the magic has run out and uncertainty hurts the team Central 3 - Detroit 88-74 I don't see this as a lock, but it's a weak divisioin 6 - Kansas City 87-75 - I could see KC winning the division, Witt's going to have a monster year Cleveland 82-80 - Hanging around, always hanging around Chicago 69-93 - A lot of small, but good moves with a decent manager Minnesota 62-100 - This whole thing's a mess. For sale just before a CBA expiring. Good luck there. West 1 -Seattle 95-67 - This is clearly the best team in the West, but Cal won't repeat what he did in 2025 Texas 85-77 - They've been underachieving for two years, now water finds it's level Houston 82-80 - The tank is slowly draining....Drip, Drip, Drip Sacramento 79-83 - They could surprise - some great young hitters Los Angeles 57-105 -Rename yourself California Angels and consider going somewhere out of the Dodgers' shadow. AL MVP - Bobby Witt Jr., Kansas City AL Cy Young - Bryan Woo ,Seattle AL Rooke Of the Year - Sammy Basallo, Baltimore AL Comeback Player - Mike Trout, Los Angeles/Baltimore 3 - Detroit over 6 Kansas City in 3 games 5 - New York over 4 Baltimore in 3 games 2 Torotno over 3 Detroit in 4 games 1 Seattle over 5 New York in 5 games 1 Seattle over 2 Toronto in 6 games NATIONAL LEAGUE East 3 - New York 89-73 - Finally some good luck breaks their way 5- Atlanta 88-74 - Last year was Murphy's Year for them 6- Philadelphia 87-75 - Cracks are starting to show Miami 75-87 - Yeah, they exist and that's about it Washington 64-98 - They are on their own baseball version of the Yzerplan Central 2-Brewers 91-71 - They just win. Go ahead and doubt them 4-Cubs 89-73 - Tucker for Bregman is about the same. Pirates 83-79 - Those fans derseve to have it come together. Donnie Kelly, Baby. Reds 80-82 - They had a quietly good year last year, they might again this year Cardinals 70-92 - I can't remember the Cardinals being this down for this long West 1- Los Angeles 97-65 - Something's gotta go wrong for them, doesn't it? Please??? Arizona 86-76 - If they can get healthy, they've got some talent San Diego 83-79 - the window is closed, but they gave it a shot San Francisco 81-81 - They've been between 79 and 81 wins 4 years now, why not a 5th Colorado 54-108 - The team is terrible, but still sells more tickets than half the league (including the Tigers) NL MVP - Corbin Carroll, Diamondbacks (Ohtani gets injured in July) NL Cy Young - Paul Skenes, PiratesNolan McLean, Mets JJ Wetherholt, Cardinals NL Comeback - Luis Robert Jr, NY Mets 6 Philadelphia over 3 New York 5 Atlanta over 4 Chicago 1 Los Angeles over 6 Philadelphia 2 Milwaukee over 1 Los Angeles 1 Los Angeles over 2 MIlwaukee World Series Seattle over Los Angeles - because someone has to stop them.
  12. Trey Yeasavage starts the season on the IL, he WAS a competitor.
  13. What would be the OD lineup? Padres haven't announced the starer, but it's gotta be Nick Pivetta, right? Unless he's hurt. It's going to be a RHP Keith, ,dh Torres, 2b Carpenter, rf Greene, lf Torkelson, 1b Dingler, c McGonigle, 3b (or maybe let the kid watch and McKinstry starts here) Baez, ss Meadows, cf
  14. vs. RHP / LHP C - Dingler / Dingler (platoon is based on rest) 1b - Tork / Tork 2b - Torres / Torres (although I do expect Torres to get quite a bit more time at DH than last year) ss - Baez / McKinstry 3b - McGonigle / McGonigle (see what he can do) sometimes Keith playes lefties rf - Carpenter / Vierling cf - Meadows / Baez lf - Greene / Greene dh - Keith / Jones Baez = SS, 3B, CF, 2B McKinstry = 3B, SS, 2B, RF, LF Vierling = RF, LF, CF, 3B, 1B Keith = 3B, 1B AND 2B (if they have to) Carpenter = RF, LF Jones = RF, LF, 2B You know how much Hinch loves that kind of flexibility In the minors Lee 2B, 3B, SS, CF Jung 3B, 2B, 1B Perez RF, CF, LF Move those puzzle pieces around.
  15. I think Perez is the odd man out because Jones is out of options. I think Meadows defense and speed outplays Perez being a switch hitter. Meadows had a slightly better Spring. Baez/Meadows platoon in CF. Vierling/Carpetner platoon in RF. You'll just have to live with left-handed hitting SS, 3B, DH vs. Lefties. McKinstry hits lefties better than righties anyway (.697 - .677 career and .854 - 746 in 2025) and so far Colt Keith is pretty close to even. .731 OPS vs righties but .610 vs. lefties, which isn't that wide of a gap. 13 position players C - Dingler - Rogers (or Valencia if Rogers concussion isn't resolved) INF - Baez - Keith - McGonigle - McKinstry - Torkelson - Torres OF - Carpenter - Greene - Jones - Meadows - Vierling Perez, Jung and Lee will all see MLB time this year at some point. Sweeney seems to be the odd-man out candidate, as far as The 40 goes. I'm sure they'll put some one on the 60 day to make room for K-Mac now, but in the long run, it's gonna be Sweeney that goes. Plus they could swing a trade to get someone off the 40-man. I don't see the Tigers as the runaway winners in the Central at all. People seem to think they have it wrapped up already. Kansas City might surprise folks and Cleveland is always hanging around. I think the White Sox pass the Twins this year and the Twins will be in the running with the Rockies, Angels and Nationals as the worst team in MLB. White Sox have made a lot of good little moves - and they might have a decent manager.
  16. We've had a good sports week Pistons have won 3 without Cade (counting the game he only played 5 minutes) Wings beat Montreal in a must-win Michigan and MIchigan State have both advanced to the Sweet Sixteen Keep it going, Wings. Another win and the Tigers sending McGonigle to Toledo would make this a perfect sports weekend !!!!
  17. What number will McGonigle wear with the Tigers on Thursday in San Diego. #7?
  18. What is with the sound? Hearing all kinds of sounds like a mic was left on that wasn't supposed to be on
  19. It wasn't Larry Hisle - because he was good for a few years.
  20. I think he was a first baseman/DH. I can picture him. It was the 70s, so he had a mustache. I keep thinking Lyman Bostock, but it's not him.
  21. 15 years = lots of raises = budget cuts. hey, did you know Brad is friends with D.J. LeMahieu ? Saw your picha there. I can't believe the Tigers haven't retired #19 yet. What are they waiting for?
  22. I thought about how one random play in a Tiger game shaped the entire World Series that year. Let me take you back to a time when Disco was peaking. Saturday Night Fever was a cultural zeitgeist. Saturday Night Live was in it's third season. If you had plans for the weekend you needed to withdraw your money from the bank before it closed on Friday (or Saturday) because once you ran out, you ran out. We didn't have ATMs. All In The Family and the Mary Tyler Moore show were the biggest comedies. Fantasy Island was a big hit, for some reason. We had a President named Jimmy and the big scandal was that he admitted to having impure thoughts. 1978. The Tigers were an improving young team then. Alan and Lou in their rookie seasons. The Origian A-Rod played third. We still had hopes that The Bird would fly again. Ralph Houk at the helm. A man who looked 20 years older than his actual age. Sunday, July 2nd. Game 1 of a back-to-back double header. Tigers leading 2-0 in the 7th inning. Dave Rozema is pitching a good game. To that point he'd given up 6 hits, 4 singles and 2 doubles. Gary Tomasson is on first. Mickey Rivers is at the plate. Rivers hits a fly ball to deep RF. It is all the way to the wall. Tiger RF Mickey Stanley reaches to catch it (it did NOT have HR distance), when a fan, probably Jeffery Maier's older brother, reaches out and interfere's with it, knocking it to the corner. Instead of chasing after the ball, Stanley goes running towards the first base umpire, screaming about the fan interference. Meanwhile, Rivers, who is pretty fast, runs all the way around the bases for a 2-run "double, Adv on E9". Yankees tie the game and then win it on a sac fly in the bottom of the 8th. How did that (possibly) affect the World Series? If you remember, we had to have a one-game playoff to decide the AL East that year. Yes, the Bucky Dent Green Monster Game. Now, perhaps, the Yankees would have tied that game anyway, but there's also the chance Thomasson doesn't even score if Stanley just goes after the ball and there is also the chance that even if Thomasson did score, that Rozema (ERA 2.22) or Hiller (2.32 ERA) who did come into the game, strands Rivers at 2nd. If Stanley had just gone after the ball, there is no playoff game. The Red Sox win the division and the Yankees don't go to the World Series. I just remember my dad yelling "GO GET THE BALL, DUM-DUM, GO GET THE BALL" Just one of thousands of little moments that decide baseball games - but one that sticks in my head. I can't find video of the play.
  23. I can't think of his name, but I can see him. Twins. Played for the Twins. I'll just throw a random name out there.. Jim Walewander
  24. Murkowski for Fetterman.
