  1. As the band Gomez says - He's got Options. But again, we're gonna pass over Sweeney (and others) to make room for Zach McKinstry. Why? Because he's left handed? He's career .220 against right handed pitching. Because he can play multiple positions? So can most of the roster. This is like the Red Wings bringing back Dan Cleary for four years too long. I'd rather take my chances with Sweeney, Lee, or even Navigato. They all may suck, but who knows? I know what Zach is. Nothing personal, but he will give you those two weeks that make you think "Hey, what about this guy?" and then resort to sucking again. Raburn 2.0. He played multiple positions too.
  2. Maybe Javier Baez returns to career norms (which are much lower after 3 sad years here). What a revelation that would be to have the player we hoped we were getting. More likely we'll be hoping for a return to the Injured List by June. Maybe Tork's mental cleanse worked (I don't blame him for it, (they were ♫ twistin' his melon, man. I mean they talked so much hittin' they twisted his melon, man, call the cops ♫). How cool would it be to see him force his way onto this team by looking great? More likely that he's only on this team if there are injuries, or he's traded by St. Patty's Day. Maybe Casey Mize shows a glimmer of why he was a 1/1 after a year of Tommy John recovery. Waiting to hear how he looks this Spring. Haven't heard much. More likely that we take our lumps with the flameout of two 1/1's in the same year. Maybe Kenta shows he belongs on a major league pitching staff again. More likely that he's just done, one of those, once you lose it, it's just gone type of deals. Maybe Parker Meadows puts a full season together that looks like his August & September run of last year. You get that guy for a full season, he's an All-Star. More likely that he remains uneven, but frustratingly tantalizes us with flashes. I'll keep my hopes up that he's not another JaCoby Jones/Mikie Mahtook - who had these runs that made you think "wow, if they could put it all together". I don't think he is. I think he's better than that. They wouldn't have made the playoffs without him last year. Maybe Gleyber Torres lives in those power alleys, like I think he could. Not having that short porch in NYC tempting you into swinging out of your shoes might actually be a benefit for him. Show me a guy who hits line drives and I'll show you a guy that thrives at Comerica Park. More likely that he still takes long swings and flies out too much. Maybe Hao-Yu Lee is the Kerry Carpenter of this year. Nobody in the mainstream is talking about him but he looks like a guy who could possibly be someone who plays in such a manner that you CAN'T leave him out of the lineup. More likely that he gets tucked away in Toledo to make room for McKinstry and Baez, who bring next to nothing. Maybe our infield doesn't look like we have 3 or 4 DH's trying to prove something defensively. An infield with an just-learning Keith-Torres-Jung/McKinstry is not going to help our pitchers much. Don't know what to think of Sweeney and Baez in the field See, it's 17 degrees outside. The wind chill is 0. I have to shovel again today. I have a nasty cold. Not working today because of Felons Day, so I am kind of bored. February sucks, I need baseball desperately now. We need a live feed of Spring Training. I'll watch calisthenics, for crying out loud. Enough of this already. Just give me something other than speculation ! Give me green grass and sunny skies. Give me baseball NOW ! Bonus points if you can name that song reference - you'll need to be into Brit Pop
  3. It's been speculated - by me. Am I any less credible than any of the "official" speculators that kept putting Bregman on the Tigers? I think I was always in the camp of him not coming here, but started to believe these arseholes because they kept saying it. I think I stated on here plenty of times that it would end up being short term Boston or maybe the Cubs, I may have said one year, but it kind of is a one-year contract, from his point of view. I was just flipping through rosters and saw that the Mariners could use someone like that. For a team that only missed the playoffs by one game and was in first place n the AL West as late as August 10th, that maybe, just maybe they'd be willing to take a real shot at it. They did NOTHING this offseason. They were a bigger disappointment than the Orioles. The Mariners just kind of sat it out, hoping that their pitching was so good that it didn't matter. Yes, their pitching is good, but they're not avoiding pitcher injuries forever. Seems like Tork would be the kind of guy they'd take a chance on. If I was a Mariners fan, I'd be livid over this offseason. So I am speculating. Luke Raley at first? Um, okay.
  4. 7 more women accuse Justin Tucker. Do the Browns need a kicker?
  5. Bonderman's change up is looking great and Miggy's lost weight !
  6. Only lightning will stop games this year. They are going to play in heavy rain. Rain Outs are for the weak.
  7. This whole idea of keeping both McKinstry and Baez is annoying. If Jung looks great this Spring and McKinstry is McKinstry, why do we need to keep him. The options? If you're worried about losing a McKinstry, then I don't know what we're doing here. Who cares? The guy's a stiff that has a great 3 week run once a year. He's Ryan Raburn with a better glove. Besides, if they cut him, what are the chances of another team taking him anyway?
  8. Michigan Stadium concert sold out in less than 2 hours.
  9. So, Full 25 man. What are we looking at here C - Rogers, Dingler, INF - Baez, Ibanez, Jung, Keith, McKinstry, Sweeney, Torres OF - Carpenter, Greene, Meadows, Perez, Vierling SP - Flaherty, MIze, Montero, Olson, Skubal, RP - Brebbia, Brieske, Foley, Holton, Hurter, Kahnle, Maeda, Vest Maybe they'll go sign Jose Quintana for a year. I feel like starting pitching is still thin, even with Jobe waiting until it gets warm (I doubt he throws less than 40 innings by mid May). Maybe they got with 4 starters and use an Opener one time through the rotation. Very interested to see what Mize does this year. I don't think any of us should give up on that guy. It seems like it's all in place for him to finally show why he was a 1/1.
  10. He hasn't signed with the Steelers, but the power struggle starts the second he skips Mandatories. He doesn't NEED them, but its about being a team player and getting to know new teammates. Yeah, Tomlin has a better chance of weathering that, but the Giants and Titans? Those team brings him in - those coaches are finished.
  11. Passive/Aggresive brilliance on my street today. There's one guy who complains when people mow their lawn too early (meaning 11am or Noon) because he works 3rd Shift. He doesn't ask nicely. He's a jerk about it. Well, someone this morning, used their snowblower on the sidewalk down the entire length of my side of the street --16 houses. Expect one house, the jerk's house, which didn't get touched. A clear message. Whomever did this, I'm buying you a beer.
  12. It can't be considered a failure if they never had a real chance at him in the first place. He was never coming here. We were used as leverage.
  13. I am happy for Aaron Glenn. The Jets decided to not hamstring him out of the gate for Aaron Fraudgers Rumors about him going to the Steelers, Giants and Titans. If he goes to any of those teams, those coaches won't survive, even Tomlin. As far as the Jets. Well, I could see Kirk Cousins on a one-year deal. I could see Justin Fields getting a shot.
  14. Or are they leaking that to make it look like they were willing to go 6/171? The lesson here is - Probably not best to go after guys that want to put up HR numbers in this park. But if you can find guys that hit it in the alleys and run, then you're probably going to do alright. Bregman is not tied for the 4th highest salary per year in baseball. He's far from a Top 4 player. Just like his old teammate Carlos is not a $33 million a year player (but the stupid Twins are stuck with him). Anthony Rendon is 7th. After his comments last year, I feel like he's faking how serious his injuries were/are. Angels should sue him for fraud.
  15. Tigers offered him $15 million more over 6 years than the Astros. 28.5 million a year and he said no. Screw him. We don't need him. We made the playoffs without him last year, then beat his team in the first round. I hope he goes full Sandoval on the Red Sox.
  16. Okay. Probable Roster Catchers - Rogers, Dingler Infielders - Keith, Torres, Sweeney, Baez, Ibanez, Jung Outfielders - Carpenter, Meadows, Greene, Vierling, Perez I don't know where McKinstry, Tork and Malloy fit Vs. Right Green-Meadows-Carpenter Jung-Sweeney-Torres-Keith Rogers Perez (DH) Vs. Left Green-Meadows-Vierling Ibanez-Baez-Torres-Keith Dingler The DH will be kind of a rotating position, giving guys a day out of the sun. I still think Baez is gumming up the works here
  17. Red Sox fans will rue the day they overspent for this declining hack As Dusty says in Twister "Imminent Ruage" He's gonna end up being Pablo 2.0 Maybe some of you remember this. Rich Aurilia - free agent 2003. We all wanted him. He went to Seattle so we went to the Mariners and said "Fine, we'll take Carlos Guillen" One of the best things that ever happened to the Tigers. Same thing here. NOT getting Bregman at 40 mil (or whatever he wanted for 6 years here), is going to end up benefitting the Tigers.
  18. I can't describe how happy I am right now. Boston is so damned stupid.
  19. Let's just say this. Yes, Bregman is better than Vierling. But if Vierling is a $3 million a year guy, Bregman is not a $40 million a year guy. He's not that much better. Not even close.
  20. 40 million a year? LOL. Have fun, Boston, and thank you Told you he'd go short term to Boston, but I thought it would be 2 years, 65 or something like that.
  21. Well, with the mighty Breggie coming to the Tigers, I am sure the home run rate for opposing teams will drop to near-zero. I mean, he's just so amazing. Getting him for anything less than $300 million is thievery - because he's so incredibly good. In fact, I think the baseball writers should scrap the 5 year rule for the Hall Of Fame and just go ahead and put him in while he's still playing.
