Article about Judge's past calendar year, just mind boggling stuff. I didn't think I'd ever see a stretch better than Bonds but given the difficulty of today's pitching I think what Judge has been doing tops that. Just historical stuff. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/aaron-judges-past-year-has-yankees-slugger-lapping-his-mlb-peers-like-no-one-ever-has-not-even-barry-bonds/

LaPorta is replaceable in my eyes, I have no problem trading him like they did Hockenon if it means paying guys like Brian Branch or Jameson Williams instead.
-
Like I said above, it just isn't worth it in this day and age. When even the elite guys are only throwing 100 pitches at most you're only looking at about 6 innings a start and about 180-190 innings a year. At those numbers the difference between an elite guy and average guy just isn't that much in terms of run differential. Not nearly enough to justify the cost.

We've also got about a 110 OPS+ collectively from our catching trio of Dingler, Rogers and Nido which probably isn't sustainable so they are due for a regression as well. On the flip side we have Vierling and hopefully Meadows coming back and I think we can expect more from Keith, Sweeney and Greene so that could help offset that. But like you said the key for the offense is Tork and Baez, if both can continue to hit at the levels they are then this can be a top 10ish offense which is more than enough if our pitching holds up like we expect it to.

This is the Tigers 11th win by 4 or more runs and 7th by 5+ runs.
-
Kinda hard to believe but this is our first game with double digit runs scored.

Tork bomb!

Starting pitchers aren't worth what they used to be, even as great as Skubal is he rarely goes more than 7 and will be under 200 innings a year. Last year in 192 innings Skubal gave up 54 runs, a league average starter with a 4.00 ERA would have given up 84 so 30 runs over the course of the season. Definitely not insignificant but is it worth what Skubal will command in FA? Not to me it isn't, so keep him for the next 2 seasons and let somebody else overpay for his decline years.

I think it's obvious why they didn't bring in Jensen cause they were worried that Carp would come in, they felt better about the lefty facing Dingler than the righty facing Carpenter.

DINGLER DINGER!!!!

As bad as it seems Riley has been at the plate for the majority of the season here he sits with a respectable 115 OPS+, still below expectations but considering he's been slumping most of the season that is pretty damn good.

Matt Ishbia has them both beat imo.

BTW Trout left yesterday's game early with a knee injury, haven't heard the severity of it but I have to imagine he misses tonight's game at the very least.

I was told there would be no science.

I haven't been paying attention closely the last few years but I remember Anaheim used to be a house of horrors for us, hopefully that is in the rear view mirror.
-
Am I reading the box score right, did Keith actually hit a HR? No way!
-
If that is the case then that is a terrible use of an asset. Using a top 75 pick on your projected backup qb(who will be injured the first year anyway) just so you could save a few million a year is complete negligence. If the Lions were in cap hell then maybe I could get it but they had and were projected to have more cap space then they could spend while Hooker is under contract.
-
In regards to Hooker I do think it's worth noting that the pick was made before Goff was clearly entrenched as the long term QB. Goff was coming off a great year but many still weren't convinced yet that it wasn't a fluke and even if it wasn't he wasn't signed long term yet either. I think the Hooker pick was made as a swing for the fences type pick and possible insurance policy if Goff were to turn back into his old self and/or not sign long term.

I swear Tork and Greene can never be good at the same time. When one plays well the other struggles.
-
Classic, I had seats on camera behind the plate only once and it was kinda nerve racking in a way cause I didn't want to do anything embarrassing like that. It made it worse cause my friend who I went with posted a Pic from the seats on Facebook so alot of our friends turned the game on to see us. I remember somebody commenting on the Pic giving us hell for flinching on a foul ball. I swear even though the net is there it's hard not to flinch.

Grading the Detroit Lions 2022 Draft
RandyMarsh replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Lions
I give it a B+. The Jamo pick is really the thing keeping it from an A for me. He hasn't been a complete bust and I still think he is going to be a difference maker but as of now he hasn't produced nearly as much as you want and expect from a person drafted that early. Also even though it didn't cost that much it still cost something to trade up so you need to factor that in as well. If he puts up another 1K season with a bunch of impact plays next year like he did this past one I probably will bump that grade up but as of now I can't give that pick anything more than a B- or C+. -
I mentioned it in another thread but I think he has the highest upside of any of our prospects. I could easily see him being a top 5 prospect in all of baseball by the end of next season.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
RandyMarsh replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
It feels like the Rockies haven't been relevant since the Matt Holiday days and he has a kid in the MLB now just to put into perspective how long ago that was. -
In regards to our prospects and trading them I'd be open to trading any of them for the right player as I feel none are at the untouchable level. If I had to say who I'd be willing to move first, Rainer would be the obvious answer due to how far away he probably is but to me I also feel he may have the highest upside of anybody so I'd be more inclined to keep him. With that said it would probably be McGonigle at this point, on the flip side of Rainer he may have the highest floor of the big prospects but I think his ceiling is limited(compared to the others) cause of his power.

Max Anderson had 3 more hits today for Erie raising his OPS to .970 which is top 5 in the Eastern League. Is he starting to become a guy we should keep a closer eye on now?
