Week Twelve: Detroit Lions (9-1) @ Indianapolis Colts (5-6)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
The problem with QB evaluation particularly coming out of college is it is hard to gauge the mental aspect that players bring to the table and their ability to properly read defenses when to audible who to throw to etc. and these are all things Goff excels at. Its much like in baseball where teams fall in love with the pitcher with the raw stuff but doesn't possess the command or "art of pitching", teams will take their chances and assume that either A. that stuff will be enough or B. they can teach those things and more often than not that doesn't end up being the case. Just one example of this with Goff that comes to mind is that long St. Brown TD against Minny, Goff audibled into that cause he read the defense properly which in turn led to an easy St. Brown TD. The pundits just look at the physical aspect and dont give a lot of credit to Goff since it was an "easy" throw but in reality it wouldn't have been an easy throw if the QB didn't properly diagnosis the play and check into it accordingly. -

Currently the Lions rank 3rd ALL TIME in DVOA through this many games in the season. Not just an all time Lions team thus far but this has been a historically unbelievable start in NFL history. -
I'm still not convinced Ben Johnson is leaving. Idk I'm probably reading too much into things but just going by his demeanor and the fact he has turned down jobs the past 2 off-seasons make me think that he may be fine staying in his spot, especially if we give him a raise. The fact is not everybody is cut out or desires to be the Captain of the ship, maybe Johnson is one of those guys.

Week Eleven: Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8) @ Detroit Lions (8-1)

Jacksonville has too much talent to be as bad as they are. Not that they are in the Lions, Chiefs or Ravens class but by talent alone they should atleast be a .500 team. -

Find you somebody that admires you like Kevin Harlan admires good punts. -

Jesus Sewell almost drove Montgomery and the Jags defenders into the 5th row! -

Damn that was an impressive kick, I still would've went for it though if I was Jacksonville. -
Just a random tidbit I was looking at but if he keeps up his current pace there is a chance Anthony Edwards will attempt more 3s by the end of November than Larry Bird ever did in a whole season.

Birkett just tweeted that Carlton Davis broke his thumb in practice on Thursday. Says Davis doesn't think it will be a big deal and is going to play through it. -

https://sportsnaut.com/nfl/nfl-news/lists/nfl-jerseys-nfls-best-selling-jersey-2024/ Top selling jerseys of the past 6 months, Hutch at number 4 and St. Brown at 6. They also happen to be the top 2 selling non QB jerseys. -
Watching Liranzo and I get Kendrys Morales vibes with his build and swing. I'd definitely be ok with it if he turned out to be him at the plate particularly if he does indeed stay at catcher.

If we decide to trade Skubal we could always call up Casey Crosby to fill that power lefty void in the starting rotation. -

I've always had a bit of a mancrush on Robert the on field player and always felt he had superstar talent but I'm not sure what he is like off the field and if his character would fit in our clubhouse. -

To me it was actually some of the non interpretations that worried me more. He missed quite a few easy throws that he normally makes. There were more than 1 just at St.Brown that weren't even close(they weren't throwaways either) and another couple where St.Brown had to pluck below his knees to get to. Also I know he isn't known for throwing the tightest spiral but some in that game were especially wobbly, hell the one to LaPorta was so bad the announcers thought it was tipped at the line of scrimmage. All this to say as long as there isn't something physically wrong with him that he is hiding I'm not concerned though, guys have off games, even great ones so until proven otherwise that's what I'm chalking it up as. -

Watching Bates game winner again and aside from how close it was to hitting the upright the thing that sticks out is just how much distance it had. It was a 52 yarder yet it glanced the flags on the top of the goal posts and finished 3 quarters of the way up on the net. Just an insane leg! -

It makes me wonder if the Lions feel this isn't just going to be a 1 week thing with Decker cause if it was I think I'd just suck it up for a week and put the backup in at LT instead of messing with Sewell. -

Nico Collins ruled out for the Texans. -
Also in defense of the Bears management they went 5-3 to end the year last year and particularly on defense looked like one of the better teams in the league so I could see why they didn't clean house. You generally don't do that when a young team responds like that and finishes out the year that way.
-
That and we were also in the middle of the pandemic, we weren't even sure how much if any of the NFL season was even going to be played at that point. It just wasn't an ideal time to clean house and try to start over cause there was just so much going on in the world.

So I just woke up from a nap still half asleep and I go to ESPN to check some football scores and on the top I see Houston up 20-17 to Detroit. Still in a complete daze I'm like "WTF did they move the game up or something" and I get all frazzled only to then realize I'm looking at the score of the Rockets vs. Pistons. lol -

Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter aren't the ideal guys to have to face with a backup LT. -

Worth noting that this week is the Browns bye week so Smith has yet to have one this year so wouldn't be the worst idea to just let him take this week off all together and rest up.
