Michigan Football 2024 aka The Year Michigan has to Defend a Natty
RandyMarsh replied to romad1's topic in College Sports
Went down to MGM last night for a friend's birthday and I ran into quite a few Oregon fans down there. Shared a blackjack table with a couple of them for a bit and they were really cool. They weren't as confident in an Oregon massacre as I was though, they felt like it was gonna be a close one and were worried that Michigan may pull the upset. -
Wave the white flag for Cooper Flagg!

I know Carolina was one of the jobs he turned down but wasn't Washington another? Just curious cause if he did then he may be regretting himself cause that Commanders job is looking real good right now. Probably not gonna find a better one this year unless Sirianni gets fired and even then I think I'd rather have Daniels as my QB going forward than Hurts.

Week Nine: Detroit Lions (6-1) @ Green Bay Packers (6-2)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Just heard on the radio that it's supposed to be cold and rainy a real "weather game" as Doug Karsh put it. Probably isn't best for the Lions but considering the narrative about Goff it would make a win and strong performance by him be even sweeter. -
Trading For a Defensive End/Edge Rusher

Factoring in salary I'm not so sure I would do Gibbs, a 1st and a mid round pick for him let alone 3 1sts and a 2nd. -

The most absurd trade proposal of all time! -
I went back and looked at several years and like I said the Cowboys were the only team that I found that made any real difference. Outside of that if the team was terrible(like both NY teams have been) it didn't matter who was in the game again except the Cowboys the numbers weren't better than games with better teams. All the highest rated games featured teams and games with playoff implications, it didn't matter where the teams were from those were the games that the National Audience tuned in for. I will say though that I probably wasn't clear with my original post, I wasn't arguing that in a vacuum a NY team wouldn't draw more viewers than a Detroit, Cincy, Cleveland etc. type team. I was saying that a bad NY team won't draw more than a good team from other parts of the country especially if its a game between 2 good teams. So if the NFL or networks believe the NY teams are gonna be good that year then yes it makes sense to put them on as many big games as possible but if they aren't sure then they are better off putting on the teams they feel more confident even if said teams play in smaller markets. That is of course if their goal is to get the highest amount of viewers on prime time games which admittedly I don't know if that is necessarily the case.

The data I looked at last year didn't conclude that, the only team that drew any real difference the past several years were the Cowboys. Looking at numbers the past couple and it appears the Chiefs are now joining them but they are also the 2 time champ who's games almost always have playoff implications so that is a big reason why.

The NFL will never learn that outside of the Cowboys and maybe now the Chiefs the team or market you put in prime time has little to no effect on ratings, instead what drives ratings is the actual quality of the teams, importance of the games and just how close the games are. So by putting crappy NY teams in prime time is only hurting their ratings, not helping.

Trading For a Defensive End/Edge Rusher

I feel like we needed a dB even more last year and Brad stuck to his guns and wasn't willing to sacrifice the future for it. Feel this year will be no different, if the rumored day 3 pick asking price for Smith is true he may go for that but don't see anything bigger than that. -
I love the "game chainsaw" bit, also got a kick out of them freaking out that Flores thinks they are all Tua. Edit: Just re-watched it and I didn't notice at first that the chainsaw DC is using is branded as a "Black and TAYLOR Decker" lol

There's an article on ESPN breaking down Richardson's accuracy issues and it concluded that yeah he isn't Drew Brees or even an average QB when it comes to accuracy but he may not be as inaccurate as the raw numbers(completion percentage) indicate. They found the main culprit for the low number is the type of throws he makes. He doesn't make many check down or easy throws that boost accuracy numbers but instead tries to make the hero throw every time. Did the same thing in college which is why NFL teams thought that his accuracy numbers would improve in the NFL with better coaching and just more football maturity to him. Thus far it hasn't been the case at all. A guy on X posted all the incompletions from the Texans game and very few of them were because he just whiffed on an easy throw, most were either drops by the receivers, balls deflected by the defense or throws that very few NFL QBs could possibly complete.

What's wild is that currently the 7th seed is 5-2. Things will surely change by the end of the year but as it stands you'd have to be a 12 win team to make the WC in the NFC. -

Stating the obvioud but The Lions also benefited greatly by Goff's resurgence. If the Lions were forced to use an early pick on a QB like they would have If Goff didn't turn it around the landscape would look much different. -

Definitely one of the strangest games in recent memory, in many aspects this is the worst the Lions offense has looked in awhile yet the team is at 49 points half way through the 3rd quarter. -

Goff's been sacked 4 times on only 14 dropbacks, just horrendous pass blocking today. -

BTW Gibbs hit 23MPH on his TD run, fastest speed for a Lions ball carrier since 2016 and 2nd fastest in the NFL this year just behind Brian Thomas of the Redskins. -

In the Lions last 7 halves of football they have scored 21, 21, 27, 20, 21, 10 and now 35. -

I'l take the penalty but I don't know what Davis was doing there. Had the guy dead to rights and just let him go right by him. -

Decker's potential decline is the one hangup for me about dealing potential 1sts for a pass rusher. I feel like we're gonna need a 1st to use on a potential replacement for him.
