Well it sucks that it was an at'em ball but on the plus side it was nice to see some more hard contact from Schoop.
-
Whoa a hard hit ball for a double, shocking! of course it comes with 2 outs so it's likely not going to lead to anything.
-
I hope you're right but I think Schoop may be toast. He'll probably put together a relatively decent stretch cause even if he is toast I don't think he is truly this bad but after things correct themself I don't see him being anymore than maybe a mid 600s OPS type of guy. That's basically what he was last year aside from that one hot month he had.

I feel like Avila's thought process was in the right place for many of his moves but unfortunately for him virtually none of them panned out aside from maybe getting Candy and Paredes(which in turn brought in Meadows) for Wilson. Even that though wasn't exactly a major home run yet unless Candy can bounce back to where he was last year. Then as far as the draft goes, Jobe was a questionable pick but aside from him I thought the last few drafts looked good at the time of the draft but again the vast majority haven't taken any steps forward so in turn it hasnt worked out. So the question is are the Tigers and Avila bad at identifying talent or how to project them or are they just bad at improving and developing the talent?

To be fair Avila talked about making these changes when he took over for Dombrowski. Perhaps they didn't come to fruition cause Mike didn't believe in it so it took his death for the organization to fully embrace it?

Ill take blame for putting my trademark jinx on Chris Paul by bringing up among the nba greats. My bad to all those Suns fans out there.
-
Yeah if I played fbb this year my strategy would definitely be streaming every opposing pitcher of the Tigers. Get ace level numbers every game.
-
It's obviously a moot point but I wonder if Bradford didn't shockingly decide to return for his senior season if the Lions would've taken him over Stafford in that draft?
-
A couple years ago NFL.com put out their highest graded draft prospects since 1999 and Calvin was 3 and Suh was 4(Peppers 1 and Luck 2) so them two were generational guys, as good as Hutch is he isn't in that class.
-
As frustrating as this season has been to me the saving grace is that even if we think the guys on the team aren't as good as people may have thought before the year they can't possibly be THIS bad. Like if we had this same record and the guys were hitting say .700 to 725 OPS I would actually be more concerned cause there may not be much room for improvement from there but that's not the case. Coming into this game they were at .602 right now and on pace for less HRs than Bonds hit by himself one year. There's no way they are actually this bad so sooner or later they will start to hit and hopefully when they do we'll take advantage of it.

Not that I necessarily blame him considering how young and highly touted Perez was at the time but to think we totally could've gotten Valdez in the Verlander trade if we wanted to.
-
Not that 34 is particularly young by baseball standards but I can't believe Brantley is "only" that old, seems like he has been around forever so I was thinking he was more like Miggy's age.
-
I know it's kinda an arbitrary number but still out of the thousands of MLB players in history it is amazing that he is one of only 3 with 500HR, 3000hits and 600 doubles.
-
Schoop would swing through a beach ball at this point.

I went and watched the Tigers play the Reds in Cincinnati in 2012 and the Reds fans there were nothing but class to me and my then GF. Had some friendly debates with a few people about how who was better between Miggy and Votto, we also talked about our respective farm systems etc. They were super polite, in fact we went to grab a couple drinks and while we were gone I believe it was Ramon Santiago that hit a HR right by where we were sitting, when we got back to our seats the guy saved the ball and asked if we wanted it. Just great people, so maybe I got lucky but just from that experience I have secretly had a soft spot for the Reds ever since.

To add to this, there was about a 10 year stretch where I probably watched more Braves games on TBS than I did Tigers games so I watched a ton of Andruw Jones and I think him at his prime was the best defensive CFer I ever seen but outside of him I don't know if I personally have seen anybody better than Jackson was those first couple years here.
-
I was too young to really appreciate somebody like Chet so perhaps he was better but for me those first 2 years Austin was here were was the best CF defense I have ever seen from a Tiger and among the best I have ever seen period. The amount of ground he could cover was unreal!
-
Tigers lineup 9 HRs total. Yordan Alaverez has 8 himself. Not a fair fight!
-
Getting Austin Jackson in that trade as well can't be understated. He put up 16 WAR in 4 seasons for us at a low price, the money we saved with him vs. Granderson allowed us to get somebody like Victor.
-
lol I'd bet in the history of baseball a SS has never made back to back throws with that much disparity in the mph. Probably low to mid 90s on the one play and the very next batter he lobs it over.
-
Damn what a throw by Javy!
-
Kudos to Shep to remind viewers that "A 5 game hit streak is on the line for Candelario"...in the 3rd inning.
-
Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but if you're not yes Tork has raw power, probably 70 grade.
-
We may need the rabbit ball back, only Baez and Tork have real raw power on this team so the deadened ball hurts us more than it would other teams.
-
Not a bad pitch, 95 at the very top of the zone.
