  1. There probably is some pitchers, I was just curious to see how we stacked up to crappy offensive players and poor Adam was one of the first that came to mind and sure enough he indeed did have a higher OPS than us. I will say though that offensive conditions are obviously much lower this year, particularly in the places we've played vs. Adam's time cause our OPS+ isn't THAT bad, it's a 91 where I think his was in the mid 60s.
  2. Adam Everett has a higher career OPS than our team OPS thus far this year.
  3. As a team we have now fallen below Barry Bonds 73HR pace.
  4. Basically my biggest fears coming into the season are happening except at a much more extreme rate than I even thought. I worried that if Hasse, Schoop and Grossman(in his case just power) came down to Earth in home runs from last year we weren't going to have enough power in the lineup to score at an even average clip. Of course with those fears I thought we'd atleast have a handful of guys that would be getting on base at a decent clip so even without home runs we could hit enough singles and doubles to be half way decent offensively but even that hasnt happened yet.
  5. We're almost a month into the season and our lineup currently has only 1 guy with a slugging over .375, that would be upsetting enough if that was obp but slugging, jeez that is downright deadball territory.
  6. Would've liked to see more swing and miss stuff but without seeing the game I wonder if the Tigers instructed him to not get too cute and basically just try to have the hitters get themselves out so he could theoretically go a little deeper in the game.
  7. Seeing how we are bitter rivals surely both teams had this series circled on the calendar as soon as the schedules were released, that type of pressure can be tough for a young team like the Pirates so perhaps that was what caused their errors.
  8. I do agree about the timing of Fields, I think Holmes wanted to build up the team more before drafting a qb with a bare cupboard, plus I think he still had faith in Goff last year and wanted to give him a chance. I mean he obviously still did does to some extent but I think last year there was more hope with him. I do wonder if Fields was in this draft if they wouldve taken him over Hutch?
  9. Faedo looking like he grabbed Pineda's jersey for this pic, cmon kid this isn't the minors get yourself a jersey that fits right.
  10. Yeah I do agree he won't just take a qb early cause they need one or are projected to go in the 1st round simply cause the qb class is weak, much like this year. Like I don't see him using a 1st on a Christian Ponder or Blake Bortles like teams of the past did simply cause they wanted a qb, the guy he drafts will have to be a legit top half of the first graded qb or he simply will draft another position and look for his qb elsewhere. I shouldve prefaced this with assuming we aren't fortunate enough to build up the rest of the roster enough where are holes are limited and we can take a chance using an early pick on a qb that may have a flaw or two that prevented him from being a top guy. I think if we ever get to that point then Holmes would be willing to take a flyer and hope it pans out much like the Ravens did with Jackson. He had his flaws coming into the draft but they had so few holes they were willing to take a chance on him and see what happened.
  11. Assuming Goff isn't the guy I think next draft is when we make our move. Obviously a lot can change but according to most of the big boards I have seen, 5 out of the top 10 guys are qbs so even if we don't finish with a top 5 pick if that holds up we should be picking close enough where we'll have the ammo to move up and grab one of them. Much like the Bears did with Fields.
  12. If Goff shows no signs of returning to his form from a few years ago theres no doubt in my mind that Holmes will pounce at either an available veteran or use an early pick on a qb. I think he wisely is giving Goff one more chance considering the lack of weapons he had last year and the fact that I personally believe he was banged up for a good portion of the season but if he doesnt look good this year then Holmes is going to move on. He's smart enough to know that while you can win with average qb play(admittedly that's not easy but it can atleast be done) you have no chance if the qb is bottom 5ish like Goff played for the first half of last year. Last year's Browns are a testament to that.
  13. The optimist in me is thinking it's just cause he was a rookie coming off an injury and will be able to stick at corner and be a solid one at that. I remember Slay getting burnt routinely his rookie year and he ended up making a big leap in the following years, I hope and expect Melifonwu to do the same, likely not to the extent Slay did but atleast to some extent.
  14. Melifonwu was one of my favorite picks post draft last year so I have a bit of high hopes with him especially working with our coaches who seem to be a bit of DB whisperers.
  15. I definitely have the same concerns but I would think the gurus know more than me and yet they seem to not have those concerns about him, or atleast to the extent that I and many of us on here share or else you would think he wouldn't essentially be the unanimous number 1. Perhaps its just cause all the players in this draft have some sorta question mark and somebody has to be 1 so he gets it by default.
  16. Givony and Schmitz broke down scenarios for the bottom 3 teams and for the Pistons they said if they get number 1 they need to take Chet. Along with other things about him as a player they say he is the best fit among the top guys for Cade. They also said if we fall out of the top 3 the best pick for us would be Ivey.
  17. Yep, if Goff indeed does look like his early season self then you have to move on from him but if he looks like how he did to finish the year Im fine with keeping him and to continue to use assets to stock pile the rest of the team.
  18. Don't know how well it works but That 3 wheel toro is pretty sweet looking, not that I'm a lawn equipment connoisseur or anything so I never seen a 3 wheel machine like that before.
  19. Forgot to copy the link but I did indeed see somebody on Twitter confirm that Alex will be the 27th man tomorrow, I didn't see if he was starting but I presume he is.
  20. Also if you're good enough to reach the conference championship game you're good enough to win the SB, the NFL is much like the MLB in the aspect that their playoffs can be a crapshoot since they are just one game. I know it's a cliche but it is true, especially among teams of that caliber and that's on any given Sunday anybody can beat anybody else.
  21. Goff has a TD pass that traveled 62 yards in the air, one of the longest in recent memory among NFL qbs and just last year had a td travel 50 yards in the air so I don't get where this narrative comes that he can't throw a ball more than 20 yards. He may be too reluctant to throw deep but that doesn't mean he physically can't if a guy is open down there.
  22. On a serious note Im still of the belief that we can be contenders with Goff. Yeah having an elite qb makes things a whole helluva lot easier but teams have shown in recent years that you can indeed win without one. The 49ers made a SB and NFC Championship with Jimmy G The Jags made an AFC Championship with Bortles The Titans made the AFC Championship with Tannehill The Eagles won a Super Bowl with Foles plus not to beat a dead horse the Rams made the Super Bowl with Goff himself. I think if Goff can play like he did the last quarter of the season then that is sufficient enough going forward for the Lions if they continue to add the surrounding pieces like they have been.
  23. My kool aid glasses reads and takes that as Goff = Brady!!
  24. I don't know why I didn't think of this before but with us trading up for Williams it basically nullified the fact the Rams won the SB and we got the 32nd pick in turn. I mean even if that pick was say 20th we still wouldve had to pony up atleast the 34th pick to move up to 12th. I guess the only difference is that maybe we couldve gotten away with trading our comp pick instead of our own 3rd rounder but that isn't that big of deal.
  25. I don't have a link cause I just saw it on Sportscenter but did anybody see the ump in the Mets game apologize to the pitcher for missing the call? It was a full count and he called seemingly reluctantly called a ball so the pitcher gave him the look and the ump proceeded to touch his chest in the "my bad" kinda way then apologized for missing it. You could tell right after he called it a ball that he knew he messed up and shouldve called a strike but I guess he figured by that point it was too late to change it. Either way though it was nice to see an ump own up to a missed call for a change.
