Mcshay put out his way too early 2023 mock and he has us taking Bryce Young and with the Rams pick Tony Grimes CB out of UNC. He used the reverse order of SB odds so we picked 2nd which barring any luck won't happen again this year. Even so he had 5 qbs going in the top 10 all of which he said are better than anybody this year so assuming the guys stock don't drop theres a good chance we can get a qb next draft if we choose to go that route.

I mentioned before but Goff threw a TD pass a few years ago that was measured as going 62 yards in the air, for reference the furthest ball ever measured in an NFL game traveled 70 yards in the air so he wasn't THAT far off from that.
-
Who is a better option out there right now that the Lions could've realistically gotten? I would agree with your sentiment if the Lions passed on a Lawrence or even Zack Wilson but they didn't. The qbs in the draft are just as flawed if not more so than Goff. As far as potential trade targets perhaps they could've gone after Matt Ryan or Wentz but again I don't think either is a real upgrade over Goff so unless somebody like Watson or Russel Wilson were willing to come here the best option for the Lions is to give the qb they have the most weapons they can and see what he can do with them. If he still sucks this year there's no doubt in my mind they will move on from him then.

Also its interesting to see how shook up Lalo has made Gus and how much Gus obviously respects and perhaps fears him. With all the resources he is expending and precautions he is taking like wearing a vest at all times and keeping a gun strapped to his ankle he almost comes across as paranoid instead of this calm, cool and collected guy that we always known him as.

I'm thinking those people have to have some sorta connection to Fring cause it would seem out of character to openly let them know the other side of "the chicken man" considering how protective he is about that. Perhaps one of them works for him in sorta a bookkeeping role or something like that, if they don't then surely they must have a long personal relationship with him.

Listening to the radio today and they brought up a sound byte from one of our games at the end of the season that Aquib Talib was calling. To paraphrase Talib goes "If Im the Lions Im rolling with Goff and building up the rest of the team, go get Hutchinson in the draft then trade up for a receiver, preferably Jameson Williams from Alabama" So is Talib Nostradamus or is he secretly part of Holmes staff?

When it's all said and done where will Paul rank among the best PGs in history or players in general for that matter? Currently the only true PG with more win shares than him all time is Stockton and his BPM is only behind Magic among PGs and 6th overall only trailing MJ, Lebron, Magic, David Robinson and Jokic.

My favorite part of the latest BCS was Gus telling Mike to find a new guy to protect him at his restaurant cause the dude sucks as a fast food worker and isn't up to their standards. I mean cmon Mike you should know this isn't KFC, this is freaking Los Pollos Hermanos only the best can work there!

There probably is some pitchers, I was just curious to see how we stacked up to crappy offensive players and poor Adam was one of the first that came to mind and sure enough he indeed did have a higher OPS than us. I will say though that offensive conditions are obviously much lower this year, particularly in the places we've played vs. Adam's time cause our OPS+ isn't THAT bad, it's a 91 where I think his was in the mid 60s.
-
Adam Everett has a higher career OPS than our team OPS thus far this year.

As a team we have now fallen below Barry Bonds 73HR pace.

Basically my biggest fears coming into the season are happening except at a much more extreme rate than I even thought. I worried that if Hasse, Schoop and Grossman(in his case just power) came down to Earth in home runs from last year we weren't going to have enough power in the lineup to score at an even average clip. Of course with those fears I thought we'd atleast have a handful of guys that would be getting on base at a decent clip so even without home runs we could hit enough singles and doubles to be half way decent offensively but even that hasnt happened yet.
-
We're almost a month into the season and our lineup currently has only 1 guy with a slugging over .375, that would be upsetting enough if that was obp but slugging, jeez that is downright deadball territory.
-
Would've liked to see more swing and miss stuff but without seeing the game I wonder if the Tigers instructed him to not get too cute and basically just try to have the hitters get themselves out so he could theoretically go a little deeper in the game.
-
Seeing how we are bitter rivals surely both teams had this series circled on the calendar as soon as the schedules were released, that type of pressure can be tough for a young team like the Pirates so perhaps that was what caused their errors.

I do agree about the timing of Fields, I think Holmes wanted to build up the team more before drafting a qb with a bare cupboard, plus I think he still had faith in Goff last year and wanted to give him a chance. I mean he obviously still did does to some extent but I think last year there was more hope with him. I do wonder if Fields was in this draft if they wouldve taken him over Hutch?
-
Faedo looking like he grabbed Pineda's jersey for this pic, cmon kid this isn't the minors get yourself a jersey that fits right.
-
Yeah I do agree he won't just take a qb early cause they need one or are projected to go in the 1st round simply cause the qb class is weak, much like this year. Like I don't see him using a 1st on a Christian Ponder or Blake Bortles like teams of the past did simply cause they wanted a qb, the guy he drafts will have to be a legit top half of the first graded qb or he simply will draft another position and look for his qb elsewhere. I shouldve prefaced this with assuming we aren't fortunate enough to build up the rest of the roster enough where are holes are limited and we can take a chance using an early pick on a qb that may have a flaw or two that prevented him from being a top guy. I think if we ever get to that point then Holmes would be willing to take a flyer and hope it pans out much like the Ravens did with Jackson. He had his flaws coming into the draft but they had so few holes they were willing to take a chance on him and see what happened.
-
Assuming Goff isn't the guy I think next draft is when we make our move. Obviously a lot can change but according to most of the big boards I have seen, 5 out of the top 10 guys are qbs so even if we don't finish with a top 5 pick if that holds up we should be picking close enough where we'll have the ammo to move up and grab one of them. Much like the Bears did with Fields.
-
If Goff shows no signs of returning to his form from a few years ago theres no doubt in my mind that Holmes will pounce at either an available veteran or use an early pick on a qb. I think he wisely is giving Goff one more chance considering the lack of weapons he had last year and the fact that I personally believe he was banged up for a good portion of the season but if he doesnt look good this year then Holmes is going to move on. He's smart enough to know that while you can win with average qb play(admittedly that's not easy but it can atleast be done) you have no chance if the qb is bottom 5ish like Goff played for the first half of last year. Last year's Browns are a testament to that.

The optimist in me is thinking it's just cause he was a rookie coming off an injury and will be able to stick at corner and be a solid one at that. I remember Slay getting burnt routinely his rookie year and he ended up making a big leap in the following years, I hope and expect Melifonwu to do the same, likely not to the extent Slay did but atleast to some extent.
-
Melifonwu was one of my favorite picks post draft last year so I have a bit of high hopes with him especially working with our coaches who seem to be a bit of DB whisperers.
-
I definitely have the same concerns but I would think the gurus know more than me and yet they seem to not have those concerns about him, or atleast to the extent that I and many of us on here share or else you would think he wouldn't essentially be the unanimous number 1. Perhaps its just cause all the players in this draft have some sorta question mark and somebody has to be 1 so he gets it by default.
-
Givony and Schmitz broke down scenarios for the bottom 3 teams and for the Pistons they said if they get number 1 they need to take Chet. Along with other things about him as a player they say he is the best fit among the top guys for Cade. They also said if we fall out of the top 3 the best pick for us would be Ivey.
-
Yep, if Goff indeed does look like his early season self then you have to move on from him but if he looks like how he did to finish the year Im fine with keeping him and to continue to use assets to stock pile the rest of the team.
