https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/33775433/miggy-3k-where-miguel-cabrera-ranks-mlb-3000-hit-500-home-run-club Cool article by David Schoenfield breaking a bunch of numbers down between the 7 guys to do this. One thing that caught my attention was that Miggy's 3 year peak in terms of RC+ was 3rd behind only Pujols and Aaron(Miggy's was 180.3 them two were 182), as good as Miggy is I didn't realize that his 3 best years would be better than guys like ARod and Mays and basically with in shouting distance to Pujols and Aaron. Also Miggy's 2013 season is better than any single season of any of those guys in terms of RC+.

Fastball up to 98 but with iffy at best command, hit a couple with it and almost hit a 3rd, didn't get many whiffs on it either, on the other hand had quite a few awkward swings on the offspeed stuff and really only a few hard hit balls the whole night.

Ty Madden went 5 innings of 2 hit ball(lone run was a HR) with 5Ks and no walks tonight.

Looking back through it and I noticed that 4 of our last 5 least valuable picks came in the 2nd round, also couldn't help but notice that Levi was almost as bad last year as Tavai was for his career.

Schoop is in the midst of an 0-25 so he's almost half way to Chris Davis.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33297949/nfl-draft-which-teams-gotten-best-value-2012-rank-all-32 Behind a paywall but they used actual value of the player over what the pick is expected to bring and the Lions are 18th over the past 10 years. Not good but not as bad as I expected. Their best draft according to that metric is 2013 where we got Ansah, Slay,Warford, Riddick and Martin. Btw Seattle was number 1 thanks in large part to Russell Wilson.

I take it as he is rightfully looking at tiers and using that to determine what to do. For example say they are really targeting a safety at 32 or 34 welll according to many rankings there is a big drop off from Cine, Hill and Brisker to the next option, most have those 3 in the top 30ish where the next guy is around 60. So let's say hypothetically all 3 of them are still there at 28, they'll probably stay put cause they would assume one will be there at 32, on the other hand say only 1 is left there he may feel pressured to trade up to secure him instead of possibly missing out and having to settle for a guy a tier lower.

From some of the videos Ive seen on yt about the Grant to Portland rumors it sounds like Portland has been enamored with Grant for awhile and sees him as a near perfect fit, if that is the case I could see them parting with a lottery pick in a draft like this.

It may have been that, I know it was a school that I never heard of by that point.

I remember watching a special on Sportscenter about this small school in college basketball where the coach essentially said outside of fast breaks or gimme layups to shoot only 3s This has to be 15 or so years ago now but I remember watching it and listening to his reasoning and it was a light bulb moment for me and made me question why all teams don't do that. It hasnt evolved to the extreme that he implemented but its getting damn close.

Watch Miggy get a hit in his first AB and everyone celebrates only for the game to get called shortly after so the hit doesn't end up counting.

I'm thankful for Jordan Poole hitting the shot to send UM to the sweet sixteen but boy now that he isn't on a team that I root for I realize how punchable looking he is. With that said he has transformed himself into a good player albeit with a punchable face.

He's only pitched like 10 innings but Dylan Smith's numbers have been pretty impressive thus far. I think he could be a guy that could move pretty fast through the system if things go right.

If we can take 2 of 3 from the Rockies that would bring us to 7-8 for the first 15 games. Considering the injuries and how poor the bats have been(assuming they don't break out this weekend) that would be a pretty decent result. You're going to have tough stretches throughout the year but the key is to tread water during those stretches and not drown like we did last year in April when things were going bad. For instance If we would've went 15-17 instead of 9-23 at the start of last year we would have been in the playoff hunt in September.

Whoa the meteoric rise of Brieske continues!

DK or Brown are the two WRs I would love to get if they came available. I think they fit the Lions need to a T, can play the outside, a threat for the deep ball and can come down with the 50/50 balls. If we could get either for one of 32 or 34 and maybe a later pick this draft or a future 2nd or 3rd I would jump all over that. Id be hesitant to give up both 32 and 34 though cause Id like to address another need with that pick this year.

Its only a 1 game difference but 5-7 looks so much more respectable than 4-8.
-
If our rotation wasn't in such shambles Id suggest moving Pineda to the pen so he could fill the all important role of oversized reliever.

Nice, can't remember if it was yesterday or Tuesday but he was throwing some nasty sliders to Judge. They almost looked like cutters with how tight they were and the velo of them.

People were predicting TJ for Sale the day he was drafted and he went over 10 years without it happening, hopefully if it does happen to Mize that will be the case with him too.

Can Samuel line up on the outside or is he more of a slot guy cause what the Lions really need is that x receiver that can play way wide of the line of scrimmage?
-
I remember when Schoop signed that extension many folks including myself thought the Tigers got a solid deal and that Schoop probably could've gotten more if he waited till the offseason but he is showing that he knew what he was doing. He's in the .600s OPS wise since the extension and I'd imagine below replacement level. If he never signed that extension there's a good chance he's being used at best as a utility guy on a 1 year deal on somebody's bench.

Assuming nothing major happens to him injury wise between now and when he is a FA at the end of next season he very well could set the record for biggest contract in American Sports history.
