RandyMarsh replied to casimir's topic in Detroit Pistons
This team is just a train wreck right now. I hope the fans in attendance atleast get to see a Ja poster dunk or something. In other games Doncic just put up 28 in the first quarter with 7 3s against the Clips. -
Law had high praise for Greene, said he has "wicked bat speed" and can handle center field for the foreseeable future but would be plus at the corners. Also says that "I can easily see him being a 300/400/.550 guy and if he does he would on the short list for best player in baseball"
-
On the flip side The Athletic gave us an A minus and said they loved the deal for us.
-
James Edwards has an article up now on the Athletic about the deadline, he doesn't specifically say what they turned down but says that from what he heard they were asking for 2 1st rounders or a young player(s) that could be a part of their future.

Stafford watch (A place for Stafford discussion)
RandyMarsh replied to RedRamage's topic in Detroit Lions
I also feel with Lions fans part of the reason most are rooting so hard for Stafford is cause as Lions fan we never won anything so it's almost like those fans are trying to live their Lions fandom vicariously through Stafford since to them this is like the closest they ever gotten to celebrating a win in the NFL. I just don't feel that way at all or share that experience. Im not looking forward to this SB anymore or any less than any other one. -
Stafford watch (A place for Stafford discussion)

This is about where Im at as well. I will say when Verlander left I did root hard for the Astros that year and rooted for him in particular but he is my favorite Detroit sports athlete ever so he was the exception, generally once the guy leaves I really don't care either way what they do. -
ESPN gave out their grades for our trade both the Clips and Kings got A's, the Bucks a C+ and the Pistons a D+. It sounded like their main critique was that we couldve just signed Bagley in the offseason if we wanted. While that is true this atleast gives us a little trial run with him to see if we potentially want to keep him long term.

I think people are putting way too much stock into how much teams care about draft position in baseball. Perfect example was the year we got Mize, all SF had to do was lose the last game and they'd get the 1st pick, instead they put out their best lineup including their ace pitcher. They could've easily rested them but they didn't. Then the following year the white sox were in contention for a top pick, what did they do? They called up all their top prospects including the then number 1 guy in baseball Yoan Moncada effectively killing any chance at number 1 or 2. Teams know that more than any other sport that baseball drafts are a crapshoot and they certainly aren't going to change the way they build their team or play the game for a better pick.

Yep, I know we get it in the NFL particularly with QBs and other skill position players but not to the extent of the nba. The second something goes just a little bit south somewhere the star player immediately wants out and they usually end up going to their preferred destination. I can understand somebody like Lillard who has been with his team for a better part of a decade getting tired of the situation and wanting out, much like Stafford did here but these guys like Harden who want out the first time there may be some adversity is tiresome.

Ideally the Bulls would be interested in Grant and we could pry away Patrick Williams for him. It's probably a longshot as I don't think they'd want to give up on him so soon but they just might if they feel Grant could be the piece that solidifies their chances of making a deep playoff run. I can't think of another young player that we could realistically get that has the potential of Williams.

BTW Dingler made Law's "Just missed" list and in his chat somebody asked about Kriedler and he said something to the effect of "I like him, think he could have a long career but not sure if he'll ever be a top 100 guy."

2021 Draft related but ESPN put out their redraft today and they still had us taking Sewell with our first pick but interestingly enough they had St.Brown going all the way up to the back of the 1st round.
-
Lol I used to get harassed by my golf buddies cause I would often wear my hat backwards when we played because I wanted my face to get a tan but I would often lose track of my ball in the sun so anytime I asked my friends where it went they'd point out that if I wore my hat the right way I may not have this issue.

Mcshay of ESPN and Scouts inc. Put out his latest big board and he has Hutch at number 1 with a grade of 94. After him the next 7 guys he has at 93s, for reference the same as he had Sewell last year. I like sites like that which include the grade so you can get a context to just how close the guys are, like the difference between Hutch and the 15th guy is only 3 so all the top half are really close to each other. Also the top WR is London at 92 and the 6th Dotson at 89 but then number 7 drops all the way to 81 along with about a half dozen other guys so if we want a WR with our 2nd or 3rd pick but the top 6 are gone we'd probably be better served waiting till later and grabbing a similar rated player. Much like we did with St. Brown last year.

I question the legitimacy of McDaniel's biracial claim as well. I personally have never seen a bi racial person look like him before. My nephew's Mother(brother's wife) is bi racial so that would make my nephew what 25% black?and even at that you can see the black genes in him unlike with McDaniel. Idk perhaps he really is but either way it shouldn't change the fact that I highly doubt there is any way he has faced any sorta prejudice or racism in his life looking the way he does.

Damn the Pacers get Haliburton from the Kings for Sabonis. Sweet deal for them imo. -
Tettleton was the first autograph I remember asking for as a kid. I was about 11 or 12 years old and acted like the stereotypical kid too shy to talk to a "celebrity" like that, I remember mumbling like "Mr. Tettleton can I have your autograph?" He of course obliged so he's somebody that always has a special place in my heart. Not just for that but he was my favorite player in that era.

Get er done Campbell! I mean why wouldn't he want to work with Goff instead of Patrick Mahomes? Seriously though if he came here and elevated our offense he'd almost be a shoe in for a HC job next year cause teams wouldn't be able to use the being a product of Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes excuse.
-
I don't know if it was ever confirmed but I remember hearing a story about how Travolta almost played Forrest Gump but chose Vega instead. If that were to happen then according to this list Baldwin would've ended up with the role of Vincent if he wanted it.

Glad to be keeping Glenn,I think his time will come but now we get atleast another year of him working with our young DBs and defense in general. Plus we'll qualify for the comp picks next time assuming they dont change the rules.
-
Being a huge Pulp Fiction fan I found this cool, I wish it had all the parts listed though.
-
Id imagine they'd take them in the first instead of 2 picks later just so they can get the 5th year option.

Calvin was on the Rich Eisen show the other day and after they got done with the interview one of the producer's told Eisen about this and Rich was like "wtf why didnt you tell me this before" so he made the producer call Calvin back just to talk about this. The whole thing was pretty funny.

Thanks, speaking of that situation, unfortunately for the Lions(what else is new?) we wouldn't be eligible to receive the 2 3rd round comp picks for losing a minority assistant like the 49ers got cause Glenn was only here 1 year. I guess they have to have been with the organization for atleast 2 years to qualify for for that.
