Stafford watch (A place for Stafford discussion)
RandyMarsh replied to RedRamage's topic in Detroit Lions
Thanks, I remember Culpepper and Stanton being here early in Staff's career that's why I wasnt sure if Dan O was a 3rd QB or already gone to Indy by then. Either I don't remember or never even realized we brought him back under Caldwell, I also completely forgot about Shaun Hill until you mentioned him. -

Josh Allen's performance down the stretch of that game reminded me so much of a college performance, Vince Young's against USC in the Rose Bowl to be specific. Just the escapes he made to keep plays alive and how he just put the team on his back to win, unfortunately unlike Young he wasn't able to win the game. -

Was Dan O still here when we drafted Stafford cause that might explain his love for him? Even before this year when the media finally started to recognize him Dan always stood by him and would call him a top tier guy. -
Since we can't trade a first its a moot point but if we could've gotten him for that deal I don't understand why you would balk at it. Yeah Simmons can't shoot but despite that he has still been a very productive and valuable player in his career, made multiple All NBAs, All Star Games and was/is generally considered a top 20 to 25 player in the league who is entering his prime years. If you can get that for an even more flawed player in Grant who will be gone in a year, a guy like Bey who is replaceable and a pick that should be in the teens or later you should hop on it.imo Again though it seems all hypothetical at this point.

Btw I saw a tweet from Rappaport earlier that he retweeted from 2019, it said that ironically the Chiefs made a proposal to change ot rules then and either the other owners shot it down or the league did, can't remember which. Now 3 years later they are the benefactors from those people shooting it down. -

There's no denying that the team that wins the coin toss has a huge advantage, sure you could say just play better defense but that's irrelevant to me, the fact is you're still at a disadvantage because of something you have no control over. That in of itself makes it a flawed system. Sure there's nothing that you can do to make it 100% equal but you can do things to try to mitigate any advantages as much as possible. -
According to Philly papers it seems the proposed deal is Grant, Bey, Olynyk and a future 1st for Simmons. I would do that in a heartbeat seeing how as you mentioned it can't be this year's pick so it would have to be one down the road and hopefully by then we will be good. It would suck to lose Bey but lets face it he is replaceable and a potential big 3 of Cade, Simmons and a top 3 pick this year could carry us to the upper echelon in the East in a couple years. Of course Philly rightfully said no but who knows they may cave eventually if/when they don't get their Damian Lillard like star that they are holding out for in return.

Yeah not squibbing that kick with 13 seconds left was really stupid as was rushing 4 guys on that second to last play of regulation. Like Romo said you know Mahomes was going to immediately get rid of it so you weren't going to get to him anyway so instead of using 4 guys to rush the qb drop one back in coverage. If they did that the guy may have been there to make the tackle on Kelce before he gained 30 yards. -

Turns out Josh Allen's one big mistake was calling tails on the coin toss. -

There was 25 combined points in the last 1:50 seconds of regulation. Absolute madness. -

Another extra benefit of the Pack losing and perhaps even the Titans is that if the Rams lose today then our pick from them could potentially be 2 spots better than it would have been if those two teams won since the Pack has a better record than them and the Titans have the same record. Not sure how the tie break works in that scenario but the Titans did have a higher seed so that may account for something. -

The 49ers were my bandwagon fan 2nd team as a kid/teen in the 90s so that fandom has somewhat carried over to me as an adult. Nothing crazy or anything but I always seem to find myself rooting for them when they are in big games. I also have found myself liking the Bengals and Bills recently so those 3 are the teams I will be pulling for the most the rest of the way. -

RandyMarsh replied to casimir's topic in Detroit Pistons
I think Mitchell may be out for the Jazz tonight, I know he was put in concussion protocol on Wednesday so I think that lasts more than a couple days. -
Hopefully guys like Dingler, Kriedler, Keith and Workman can put up good seasons and perhaps make the midseason lists.
-
If I were him I'd stay away from the Raiders if he wants to win. KC isn't going anywhere as long as they have Mahomes, the Chargers have arguably the best young QB in football and the Broncos are really just a QB away from being elite, and with guys like Rodgers and Russell Wilson possibly available this offseason they may just get that.

Lol damn 🤣 totally misread that.

Not related to anything but I was listening to the radio a little bit ago and Dickerson was on talking to Caputo. I tuned in mid conversation so I didnt hear the introduction, so between that and Dan sounding way different I had no idea it was him, I just thought it was a regular caller. I dont know if it was his cell phone or what but he just sounded completely different. They were mainly talking Greene and Tork but A couple minutes in I was "damn this is like the most knowledgeable radio caller I ever heard". It wasn't until the call ended and Pat said it was Dan that I realized it was him. They briefly talked about the strike and Dan seemed pretty confident the season would start on time.

There seems to be a growing consensus that there is a 3 man draft at the top followed by a second tier, Ive seen some people put Ivey in that top tier but not sure he would be a fit here anyway. Ive only watched highlight tapes which can obviously skew things but based on those and scouting reports I really want Jabari Smith the most but would be fine with any of the top 3 at this point. -
The Josh McDaniels love never ceases to amaze me.

Some good baseball news, AAA is going with robo umps in 2022.

Boras will find a way to get some team(likely the Yankees) to bid against themselves and get him either the Lindor money he is seeking or at the very least Seager money so he can be the highest priced FA this year.

I just caught the tail end of it on the radio but they were talking about how the Pistons made an offer to Philly for Simmons. Gave no details though about what it consisted of. It doesnt seem like he'd be a fit with Cade since he can't shoot but he definitely is long, athletic and talented so lord knows we need that. I imagine that it would take multiple unprotected picks and that's not something Id be willing to part with. If he could be had for any combination of non Cade player on the team and maybe a top 7 protected this year, top 4 next year and unprotected after that Id pull the trigger but surely Philly could do better than that somewhere else.

The Golden State and Chicago blowouts aside, this month they're playing alot better. I believe they are 6-6 in their last 12 which looks pretty good considering the disastrous start. Bey has looked more like he did last year and Cade has played alot better. Hopefully Olynyk being back will help things as well, not too much though I still want that top 4 pick of course. -
I totally agree with you that it is about finding impact guys, I'm just not convinced that the guy we are going to get that at 2 this year is that guy. If Suh or Calvin were sitting there at 2 like the last two times we had that pick we wouldn't be having this debate, I'd grab them and run, but they're not, there isn't much difference if any between the mid 1st round guys and the guys at the top this year. With the extra picks we'd get multiple chances to try to get that impact guy along with another chance next year.
