2024 - 2025 Detroit Tigers Offseason
RandyMarsh replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Tigers
Granted players don't usually go around site seeing when they are on the road unless maybe they have a day off there but he's been coming to Detroit once or twice a year for the past 10 years, it's not like he has never been here before. -
I'd like it for a couple of reasons. First it's always cool to watch your team in prime time games, secondly I feel week 1 is more volatile than any other week, especially now that teams rarely play their starters in preseason so if you have to play an elite team on the road the first week would probably give you the best chance to pull an upset.

Wonder if we'll get the NFL opener against the Eagles this season? Looking at their schedule I'd have to imagine it's between us or the Commanders.
-
Anthony Davis with 24pts, 13 boards, 5 assists and 3 blocks in the first half thus far against Houston in his Dallas debut.
-
Yeah not good, considering the Pistons never play on national TV and the fact that this is a pretty big game in terms of playoff implications I doubt he would be sitting out unless it was really bothering him. I'm hoping that he was wanting to play and felt he could but the team just decided not to for very precautionary situations.

Trying to come up with an analogous situation to put myself in their shoes and I can't think of one for Detroit sports in my lifetime. We traded away some beloved players but they were almost always during a downtime with the franchise or were older. I guess the closest comp I can think of is Billups for Iverson but obviously Billups wasn't as good as Luka and was quite a bit older.

Forgiven, you're a bit rusty on here, it's like a great hitter coming off the DL after a long absence. Takes a bit to get back into things. -

Speaking of Deuce, a couple weeks ago he signed on to be the hitting coach for the Diamondbacks AAA team in Oregon. He's surely going to be out recruiting some big tough lumberjacks to be some muscle for his organization. Also gives him a chance to spread his operations to the Northwest. -
Highly unlikely he wins but if for some miracle Cade were to pull it off he would be the first Piston to win an All Star weekend contest whether it be a 3pt shootout, dunk contest or skills. I wonder if were the only team that has managed this?

That's pretty wild, feels like he had atleast 20 games alone where he destroyed Drummond for like 40 and 15.

Kriedler would be my choice. I just don't see any reason to keep him at this point as he doesn't really offer anything that I feel can be a help to the team. GUys like Ibanez atleast offer the skill to hit lefties if need be, Malloy showed some OBP and power potential, Mckinstry has defensive versatility etc. Kriedler really doesn't offer anything that you couldn't immediately find off waivers or in the minors if need be. -
It'll come out around the 26 or 27 draft that the team that is picking number 1 had an unprotected 1st lined up for Beasley but the trade didn't go through cause Malik told Trajan he loves Detroit.
-
Oh for sure, I mentioned last night that I see that by training camp of the 26 season as the deadline to get Cade some help or else he'll be demanding a trade. So 2 drafts and 2 offseasons.

The stats may or may not support it but it feels like Schroeder always kills us so I'd be fine getting him if for nothing else then not having to see him the rest of the way.

Yeah I keep going back and forth with Bregman. As I said the other day barring him ending up like Javy he would be a real help to this team short term even if he only repeats his performance from last year but OTOH I do recognize the underlining concerns with him and how the deal could look real bad in a couple years. -
BTW if we don't find a way to provide some help or get drastic improvements from current players by the end of next season will Cade join the list of superstars demanding a trade? I cant say I'd blame him if he did.
-
Small sample but since those back to back 10 turnover games Cade has only averaged 3 a game the past 7 including only 1 tonight.
-
Surprised they didn't have to part with Kuminga.

I didn't think you did but literally right before you made your post Doug Karsh says "And now your Pistons have a made a move, we'll give you the details after the break."

The guys "that can handle a bat" are a dying breed now so probably wouldn't make much sense but I remember having the idea(I'm sure others had it before me) of some type of hitting competition. Like putting circles throughout the field with different scores, maybe have the circle size or location determine how much points its worth with the objective being landing the ball in the air in the circle. You can maybe make it like the original HR derby rules with 10 outs and everything that doesn't land in a circle being an out.

Listening to 97.1 I take it?

YEah that's one of my favorite random stats. Another is Musial having the exact same number of hits at home and on the road. Also the longest hit streak among all Yankee and Red Sox players is of course Joe Dimaggio at 56, the 2nd longest is also Dimaggio but not Joe but his brother Dom who had a 34 game hit streak. Oddly enough Dom's hit streak ended when he went 0-5 against the Yankees with his last at bat being a fly ball to Joe. -

It's wild going back and looking at his player page, a few things jump out but seeing how durable he was before breaking down really stands out. His first 8 years in the league he missed 13 games total and had a 5 year stretch where he only missed 1 total game. Another thing was that I didn't remember him being good at all for Texas but his 2015 season was really good offensively atleast, not like at his peak but still finished with a 126 OPS+ in over 600ABs and actually garnered MVP votes. Don't remember that all.
