Stafford watch (A place for Stafford discussion)
RandyMarsh replied to RedRamage's topic in Detroit Lions
Idk I was rooting against the Rams from day 1 cause for better or worse I'm a Lions fan first and want what's best for them and some of Staff's comments since then have only made me want to root against them more. Like him saying he never played in a meaningful game here which led to the lazy media just jumping on that narrative and going with it. That's b.s. Also I don't think he directly said this but Ive seen some of his interviews where it seemed to insinuate the Lions didn't bother to get him help which again is false. Virtually every early pick they made from 2011 on was used on guys they thought could help him, whether it were TEs, O lineman or RBs. Twice they signed the highest price FA WR in Tate and Jones as well as spending big on Bush. Things may have not worked out but it wasnt from lack of trying. I still don't wish any harm on him and Im glad he is happy but Im not gonna go out of my way to root for him or the Rams. -
This is where Im at. Take Thibs or Hutch at 1 or 2 then pick a couple playmakers with atleast 2 of our next 4 picks. I know we need a lot of help on defense but Im still of the belief that the quickest way for us to get back to being competitive is through the offense. We already have the pieces on the offensive line and hopefully at RB, now we need a dynamic playmaker on the outside and/or in the slot. We're still going to need a qb obviously but I think with more weapons that will make it easier for us to get good QB play.

I was of course happy at the time cause it meant our team would be good in the near future but I also thought at the time Carlos Beltran would've been a more responsible option. He was still available as well and while not in Prince's class offensively was still a plus bat that could play the OF and allow Miggy to stay at 1st. I believe he ended up signing with the Cards for only like 3/30 and put up similar WAR totals to Prince.

At this point with so many cheap players on the roster aside from Cabrera there really shouldn't be any concern about the AAV for the next 3-5 years, in fact if we do sign somebody to a long term contract it might be in our interest to front load it. Its too early to really speculate about any long term extensions to our young players but assuming they pan out guys like Tork,Greene, Mize and Skubal are eventually going to get expensive so might as well pay as much towards a FA salary early while they're still cheap vs. On the back end when all those players may be making big money as well.
-
If management truly thinks he is better served both short term and long term getting reps in AAA then you really can't argue with them. I just don't want him being stashed in AAA to manipulate service time. One, I think it's a bad look for team, two I think its unnecessary cause if he is any good we should be looking to sign him to an extension buying out his arb years and some FA ones and lastly I think it could come back to bite them if they indeed are right in the thick of the playoff race though I concede that last point might be pretty unlikely.

The Tigers are nearing agreement with Eduardo Rodríguez
RandyMarsh replied to RatkoVarda's topic in Detroit Tigers
You, me and a couple others seem to be the only ones that would be fine with him. I remember suggesting him towards the tail end of the old board and you'd think I suggested Neifi Perez or something by some of the responses it got. Not only on here but I saw on one of the Tigers pundits accounts(Beck maybe?) bringing up Baez as a possibility and it was overwhelming negative with people against it. -
I dont think the extra year is all that important, very rarely these days do premium young players make it to free agency and the rare times they do like with Correa its because ownership went cheap with them on the extension.
-
If the goal really is just .500 then I can understand sitting him for the month but assuming we make a splash and sign one of the top SS I believe the Tigers expect to contend for the playoffs. In that case I feel they need to put the best possible team out from day 1 cause they are going to need every win they can get and I think Tork at 1st, Schoop at 2nd and one of the Castros on the bench is the best team they can put out. Will it equate to wins? Who knows, Tork very well may struggle but all you can do is give yourself the best chance to win and field the best team and like I said I think the lineup with Tork is just that. Of course this can change if they sign a decent stop gap 1B that is capable of putting up plus offense and allowing Schoop to stay at 2nd but I'm skeptical they are going to do that.

McShay's latest big board has 6 WRs in the top 25 before a little drop to the 7th one, as of now if 2 of those 6 are available with our 2nd and 3rd picks I would seriously consider doubling up on WR with those picks and waiting to 2023 for our qb. I think those 2 WRs along with Hock, Swift and our offensive line would give that QB the tools he needed to succeed from day 1.
-
The Lions were averaging 6 yards a rush, they'd be fools not to continue to run the ball. Also if not for the FG kicking they would've scored 20+ against a really good defense in bad weather conditions. Not exactly the 00 Rams but still that's not bad especially with the amount of clock they were milking.

The most surprising part of that story is that there are still roller derby teams. I had no idea that still existed.
-
I believe so. The Cubs also missed out on potentially winning the division by delaying Kris Bryant, but they were fortunate enough to atleast make the 1 game playoff. I believe there were a couple other similar situations in recent memory as well.

Im torn on the idea of taking a QB with the Rams pick or our 2nd. On one hand it obviously would end up being worth it if he turns himself into a legit qb freeing us up to not have to use a 1st on one the following year. On the other hand they rarely work out and you run the risk of passing on the superior option the following year cause you think you got your guy. Kinda like Philly did this past year, they figured they were set with Hurts and passed on qbs only to now reconsider that decision. Also we have so many needs and holes it seems risky to use a precious early pick on a qb that will likely have quite a bit of question marks. With that said I could be talked into it and would inevitably support the pick and player if they do end up going that route.

Barring any major setbacks whether it be injuries or performance based(like they look totally overmatched in Spring Training) I think Greene and Tork will both be up on Opening Day. I'm sure the rules about call up time and getting that extra year of control will change in the new CBA but even if they don't I think it would still be in the Tigers best interest to have them on the Opening Day roster. The reason being is that the Tigers are in a position where they are going to need every win they can get if they want to make the playoffs and delaying Greene and Tork's call up by a month may give them an extra year of control but could cost them a win or 2 and those wins may end up costing them a playoff spot.

Evan Mobley had himself a rough night offensively against the Celtics, 1 pt on 0-11 shooting. -
I actually have no problem accessing with my laptop or work CPU but can't access with my phone(Samsung Galaxy). I've tried downloading different browsers on there and still no dice.

I feel like there's got to be better options than Boyd or atleast guys with higher upsides. Boyd at his best is probably a 4 ERA over the course of the season, last year was his best season ERA wise at 3.89 but he also got hurt half way through, he notoriously struggles in the 2nd half so if he didn't get injured that ERA was surely going to rise well about 4. Now getting 30 some starts of a 4 ERA has alot of value but Boyd is probably only going to give you 15 or 20 at the most next year and that 4 ERA is best case scenario, he's just as likely to give you one over 5 than he is that 4.

Speaking of USC, they lost their top recruit, 5* DB Domani Jackson who is rumored to be high on Michigan. He says he is coming for the OSU game with his Dad so lets hope we can impress him(yes I know probably not happening). I guess he is close with fellow 5 star DB Will Johnson who is committed to Michigan. It would be a real get for us if we could get both of those guys.

Lee and Livers have been called up for this game, I've yet to see the corresponding moves though. -
If it was overpriced they wouldn't be in business. The demographic it is aimed at isn't your regular pizza connoisseur, it's for your family on a budget or parents that need a quick meal for their kids/family. The kids probably have no problem eating it and it feeds a family of 4 for $5 which is hardly overpriced.

Yep, people hear finger injury and they just assume he is being soft but nobody really knows the details behind it or how cumbersome it was in terms of blocking. It may not have been a matter of toughness rather the fact that he couldn't do his job properly and he or management wisely chose to sit out instead of risking the health of his QBs and RBs by having defenders in the backfield constantly.
