I was too young to see any of the good Tigers teams there so my fondest memory was seeing my then favorite player and team Ken Griffey Jr. and the Mariners(as a teen they were the coolest team of that era) there. This was in the summer of I believe 99, Luis Gonzalez hit a would be HR only for Griffey to seemingly come out of nowhere to rob it. The buzz in the stadium was incredible and still the greatest defensive play I ever seen live.

So far things are going about how I expected and that's a good thing. I think the jury was always going to be out on Campbell as far as an in game tactician but any flaws there would be made up in how good of motivator he is and thus far that seems to be the case. There's been a few instances where I felt he made the wrong in game calls but hopefully he will get better as time goes on. You can't deny the effort the guys are playing with though which to me may be the most important thing when it comes to being a Head Coach.

Robot Umps (at Home Plate).........Your Thoughts?
RandyMarsh replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Fwiw to me it seems the umps do a pretty damn good job of calling strikes North and South, atleast going by the zone they use on TV, where they struggle is East and West but even there I think they have gotten alot better. I remember routinely going to Brooks after games and seeing 20 wrong calls on any given game, now that number is way less than that... atleast in my experiences when I look. -
Glad to see there is a college board now, this has nothing to do with the game but I saw this right when the old board went down and I wanted to post it there but couldn't. It probably deserves to be in the old Harbaugh thread but anyway a few of us speculated that Michigan isn't viewed as a top job anymore but a couple weeks ago The Athletic polled a bunch of coaches throughout the country on what the best job in the NCAA was and Michigan Head Coach came in at 11. So it may not be tippy top but it's still considered better than vast majority of other positions and with the exception of a couple all the ones higher likely aren't going to be coming up any time soon either so if/when we get rid of Harbaugh we should have our pick of the litter. https://theathletic.com/2827321/2021/09/15/what-are-the-top-5-jobs-in-college-football-we-polled-over-100-coaches-and-staffers-to-find-out/

9/28 @ 7:40 Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins

I really haven't been paying that close attention to individual stats of late but boy did Schoop and Hasse's power numbers fall off a cliff the past couple months. It feels like they had 21 and 23 HRs back in late July and early August and they're still there now. -
God I tried listening to the radio today and I just can't. For years these hosts and callers have plead for the Lions to tear it down and now that they do they bitch about how horrible the franchise and team is. When one caller smartly says "what did you expect?" They respond with "they are worse than expected." How so? They played 3 playoff teams thus far and 2 of them came down to the wire and the other they led at halftime. I also don't want to hear the narrativr that the 49er game doesn't count cause they weren't "trying", if that were the case you would see things like that every time teams got big leads but guess what you don't. If you're gonna throw that 3 minutes of great football by the Lions out then why not throw the 3 minutes of terrible football out against the Packers,if you do that then that game ends up being one possession too. Then you get the whole "well the Ravens game wasn't that close cause they dropped easy TDs", again that's not how things work, teams make mistakes every game including the Lions, yet when the Lions do those people don't say "well if they didnt do this they would've won", no they just chalk it up to football or the Lions being the Lions when in fact every team drops passes, has costly penalties, misses throws etc. it happens and is part of the game. The bottom line is they competed to the end against 3 playoff teams, I don't know how you can be disappointed in the team if you wanted them to tear it down. This is what you get when you do that. Ok End of Rant!

The Jags just traded CJ Henderson and a 5th to the Panthers for a 3rd round pick. Henderson was the second db taken last year after Okudah of course and by all accounts looked alot better than him(not that that is saying much). Anyway for that price I think I would've been in on that. I think the likelihood of getting a defensive player that has his kinda upside that fills a pressing need in the middle rounds is extremely slim, plus we'd be getting back an early 5th to help offset that.

I like the Bills blueprint, they built up the rest of the team before taking Josh Allen. He did struggle a bit early on but that was more due to him being Raw than anything. They also went out and almost immediately got him one of the best wrs in Diggs to help his development. They essentially had everything he needed to succeed by his 2nd season and now they look like one of the teams with the brightest futures in the league. Another example is the Chargers, Herbert was able to be a stud from day 1 cause the pieces were already in place. That's what I want when we draft a qb early.
-
I wouldnt take any, I was a big Rattler fan coming into the season cause I expected him to build off his strong finish to the season last year but that really hasn't been the case. I say build up the defense and find a playmaker or two on offense(between the draft and FA) and then take a qb in 2023. I want the QB to be in the best situation as possible coming in so he can be successful from day 1. I don't want him looking like most of the rookie QBs this year, all you do in that situation is waste a year or 2 of their rookie deals, potentially kill their confidence, risk them getting injured or risk misevaluating them like it looks like the Jets did with Darnold. I don't want any of those problems. Just ride it out with Goff the next 2 years, take your lumps and take your qb of the future in 2023. I have no idea what the class is suppose to look like that year but hopefully for our sake there's a couple good ones.
-
Watching that live I was like "holy shit who and the hell was that?", not used to a Lions lineman bulldozing his way over an opponent.
-
I can't say I agree with calling that timeout before the 4th down play unless it was needed for an injured player. We had the Ravens all out of sorts and that timeout just allowed them to regroup and pick the exact play they wanted. Plus we chose to rush 3 after getting pressure on him most of the day.

Unless they sign some stop gap 1st baseman like a Cron, Rizzo etc.(Don't expect them to just saying) then there really isn't any reason that Tork shouldn't be here next year from the start. If he isn't then that will definitely put out the vibe that they are being cheap and delaying his clock cause from a performance standpoint you can't make an argument that he shouldn't be on the team.

There seems to have been alot of great robbery catches at Copa this year but the one that really sticks out is the dude from the Mariners who robbed Paredes I think of a walkoff, not only did he rob him he also doubled up the guy at 1st. That was a helluva play. -

I miss the look of the old scoreboard, I mean I love the new huge screen but I loved the old clock and the font and placement of "TIGERS" at the top, it gave off a real retro feel. I will never not be annoyed though by the Upper Deck bleachers covering damn near a 1/3 of the screen though. -
I for one think Verlander is going to be of value in 2022 and would love to sign him. He isn't going to be the Verlander of old but I think he is still gonna be a solid mid rotation guy at worst. Yeah he's coming off TJ and there really isn't much of a precedent for guys his age coming off of TJ but in general the better you are pre TJ the better you seem to respond post TJ for obvious reasons. Chris Sale for example is dominating in his TJ return and he's only 13 months removed from surgery where as Verlander will be 19 months by the time 2022 starts. Yeah Sale is 5 years younger but Verlander isn't your typical 38 year old. It's not like he was throwing 91 or 92 pre surgery, he was still regularly touching 99 and sitting mid 90s, so even if he takes a hit velo wise he will still be better than average and ditto for his spin numbers. Bottom line I'm not going to bet against him and if we could get him on a 3 year deal I would be all over it cause I think he will still provide value and have the upside of being really good.

Another Tork bomb, yesterday he hit one about 450ft to straight away center now he effortlessly takes one to right.
-
Tork destroys one over the CF wall for HR number 27. The impressive thing about his bombs are just how far most of them go, very few were cheapies, the vast majority would've been out of every big league park including Comerica.

If Ragnow and Hock were 30 then sure deal them but that's not the case, even if it takes us 4 years to be competitive they would still be young enough to potentially still be among the best at their positions. Now the one guy I would explore trading is Decker just cause teams pay a premium for top LTs and we don't know how he will respond when moved to presumably RT. I wouldnt just give him away though but if a team offers me a 1st and a couple mid round picks Id be hard pressed to say no.
-
Looking at various teams big league and prospect depth charts I see the Reds seem to have some depth at SS. They have a couple guys that are at double A or higher with 50+grades plus their most recent 1st round pick Matt Mclain who supposedly is pretty advanced so they could probably count on him by 2023. Perhaps we could try to swing a deal with them.
-
I have no idea what the draft looks like next year other than Green but hopefully for our sake it shakes out like how it did this year. Some of the perceived top guys(House,Rocker,Mclain Watson to name a few) managed to fall to about where we are likely to pick so if we're lucky we can still get a premium guy despite picking outside the top 10.

Lamar Jackson missed todays practice after complaining yesterday his hip was bothering him from flipping in the end zone Sunday. The team said he was sick and that's why he missed but I wouldn't be surprised if it was indeed his hip and they are just covering it so Lamar doesn't get heat. Anyway just figured I post that since we play the Ravens on Sunday and it looks like there is atleast a chance Lamar won't be 100%. Of course with that said him at 75% could probably still carve up this defense.
-
I remember him as a player with the Guardians but not sure of his background in the office/management.
-
I bet Inge could've accomplished that feat if given the chance, atleast the 03-06 version. I think he wouldve been capable of handling short, maybe not full time but he'd be good enough to play there a couple dozen times a year.

Speaking of Cade I find it funny how quickly the narrative changes after we get him. All year all we heard was how he was a borderline generational talent and at the very least one of the top 3 or 4 guys to come into the NBA the past 10 years. Now all the sudden of no fault of his own he has turned into just another early draft pick. Case and point on ESPN the other day they actually asked who would you take between Cade and Anthony Edwards and one of the talking heads picked Edwards. A year ago people said Edwards was one of the weaker number 1 picks in recent memory, then he goes out and has a so so rookie season and now people are picking him over the "cant miss prospect" in Cade? What changed people's perception other than him becoming a Piston?
