  12. I've always found this 6:40 start time odd for the Rays. They play in St. Pete, away from much of the population in Tampa. Those folks have to travel a causeway to cross Tampa Bay to get to St. Pete and get to the game, during or on the heels of rush hour. I've always theorized that this is one of the sources for the Rays' attendance problems.
  13. this is a confusing pitching matchup
  14. I've never thought about this. For me it was Juan Encarnacion, Sept. 1997
  15. I was surprised to see the Brewers where they are, but winning = more merchandising, and they've been winning
  16. I don't think the owner has anything to do with valuation; a franchise isn't worth more because of the owner's net worth (management aptitude is distinct from that). A lot of franchise value is tied up with merchandising and media reach. A lot of the top-value franchises are either located in large media markets, or have their own RSN, or are the top merchandising teams. And obviously those contribute to each other.
  17. Last night the Sux game was the MLB TV free game of the day so I tuned in to it for a bit. The NBC sports Chicago broadcast had a highlights segment between innings and played this music. That was the only good thing about watching a Sux game.
  18. Not that we don't need robo umps, but I wonder if there is something about Rodriguez's delivery. He was getting squeezed in the opening day game, too.
  19. It's pouring in Birmingham
