I've always found this 6:40 start time odd for the Rays. They play in St. Pete, away from much of the population in Tampa. Those folks have to travel a causeway to cross Tampa Bay to get to St. Pete and get to the game, during or on the heels of rush hour. I've always theorized that this is one of the sources for the Rays' attendance problems.

I was surprised to see the Brewers where they are, but winning = more merchandising, and they've been winning- 3,276 replies

2022 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD
theroundsquare replied to chasfh's topic in Detroit Tigers
I don't think the owner has anything to do with valuation; a franchise isn't worth more because of the owner's net worth (management aptitude is distinct from that). A lot of franchise value is tied up with merchandising and media reach. A lot of the top-value franchises are either located in large media markets, or have their own RSN, or are the top merchandising teams. And obviously those contribute to each other.- 3,276 replies

2022 DETROIT TIGERS REGULAR SEASON THREAD

Last night the Sux game was the MLB TV free game of the day so I tuned in to it for a bit. The NBC sports Chicago broadcast had a highlights segment between innings and played this music. That was the only good thing about watching a Sux game.- 3,276 replies

Not that we don't need robo umps, but I wonder if there is something about Rodriguez's delivery. He was getting squeezed in the opening day game, too.

4/8 1:10 White Sox @ Tigers **OPENING DAY 2022**

attending for the first time in years. and of course the weather is shit -
Al looks like a guy who tried out but was too fat to be in The Matrix
-
that park is both deep and has a massive amount of foul territory for pop-ups to be turned into outs
-
I was thinking he's like an extra from Starsky & Hutch. Guy in a bar, guy behind the counter in a store, something like that. Alternatively, starring alongside Ron Jeremy.
-
Chafin kinda seems like he might be my new favorite Tiger
-
obviously it's not him, he's not wearing the buzzer

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
theroundsquare replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
I used to see her at events at my kids' school, so I gather that I lived close to her somehow. Anyway, she's kind of short. And she's not Amy Andrews . . .- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
theroundsquare replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
I do a fair amount of negotiating in my line of work, and we never accomplish anything with in-person sessions. Too many personalities, egos, etcetera. In my experience, the exchange of written proposals is where the real work is done. It is possible that there may be progress on that front, notwithstanding the hardly-existent in-person sessions. But it doesn't sound like it.- 1,851 replies

Again going off memory, I think Willie Blair's good year was 1997. He won like 20 games and then signed with Arizona
