I tend to think we could get more for Eduardo by trading him sooner rather than later. A starting pitcher is one of the biggest difference-makers for a team in contention or trying to move from the edge of contention into the race. An earlier trade results in more starts for the new team. Obviously you have to have a willing partner, but if I'm in Harris' shoes, I am opening up shop sooner rather than later.

to be clear, i'm not mocking Tork's exit velo numbers, but there has to be more to the story. he's hitting the ball hard. did all through ST and 22 games or whatever we are into the season. the results aren't there. seems like hitting it hard isn't enough and there's something else he needs to do. to the extent that this reflects my ire, it's because he does seem so close, yet he isn't there. Greene just isn't good right now, so it is less maddening.

this is just off the cuff, and maybe the analogy doesn't work, but if you have pretty much any statistic (or financial asset as I'm thinking about), you can analyze its performance by standard deviation. Somebody who is streaky will have their overall average, but their periodic deviations are going to be greater than somebody who is not quite as streaky. In general, something -- a statistic, or an asset for example -- with greater standard deviation is not as valuable as the same something with lower standard deviation.
