Championships since 1950:
Detroit Lions: 3 (1952, 1953, 1957)
Michigan State University: 2 (1952, 1966)
University of Michigan: 1 (1997)
Incredible to realize that both of these programs suck worse than the Lions.
Too early to tell. I like this draft class and I like quite a few of the FA signings. Not a fan of the Goff move. He sucks and the 2 picks are nice but not nearly as valuable at the bottom of the 1st round as they appeared to be over the summer.
They renegotiated him though which added $15m in dead cap if they cut him this off-season. I don’t think they do that unless they really had some thoughts that he could become their long term starter. I’m not sure this guy is even a good clipboard holding backup for a good team. This may be his last stop in the league.
Loved the effort today combined with the Jags win. This is setting up very nicely for the Lions. The most disappointing part of the weekend was Liberty losing to a 32 point underdog and Willis throwing 3 more Ints. That was more concerning to me than anything Goff did today.
On the subject of Goff, he’s a total stiff and shame on anyone for thinking they were smarter at evaluating QB talent than Sean McVey. He knew exactly what he had and he passed his trash onto Holmes. Brad should’ve know better. The only thing Goff does well is cash paychecks and he’s all-pro at doing that.
The tears didn’t do anything for me either good or bad. I am over caring about the style and personality of the head coach. I just want to start seeing results of the team getting better.
I’m liking that despite being one of the least talented in the league and also riddled with key injuries this team has somehow managed to be in every game they’ve played. Green Bay is the only one where that didn’t come down to last possession. I’m still not sure how this has happened but the coaching adjustments and preparation appears much better than it’s been in the past.
I don’t see it as a stretch of this team being competitive next year at 7 or 8 wins and then moving into playoff and maybe even division champ in 2 years.
Holmes has work to do but I’m liking what I’m seeing to this point.
Not sure if this goes here or the draft thread but I believe that come spring, the best player available in the draft will be Malik Willis. I don’t think it will be particularly close either. I also believe he will be viewed as a better NFL prospect than any of the 2023 draft eligible QBs.
I’m still trying to understand what happened yesterday. I’m not talking about the ending since that was as predictably Lion as possible.
I’m trying to figure out how they were able to contain Lamar Jackson and hold Baltimore to 1 TD with an undermanned defense. I am also not sure how they scored 17 points in the 2nd half with TJ only catching 2 balls for 10 yards. They had no business being in that position yet there they were. Good things can happen when you don’t have any turnovers
The players aren’t necessarily better than I thought but the entire coaching staff is much much better. They are making solid adjustments and appear to be getting the most out of the talent they have.
I thought Goff had a few nice drives but overall wasn’t up to par. He was much too tentative with the football and the only plays he made in the 2nd half were for the Packers.
